Anchorage Daily News (AK) - April 8, 1990
Winnebago Sales and Service president and general manager Winston
"Win" Cash Chance Jr., 39, died April 6 at Humana Hospital, Alaska
after a long battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street. A memorial
service will immediately follow at the chapel with the Rev. Floyd Brause officiating.
Mr. Chance was born May 8, 1950, in Bonham, Texas. He moved to
Anchorage with his family in 1959. He was a 1968 graduate of West Anchorage High
School, where he was a class president. He then attended Willamette University
in Eugene, Ore. After studying for his real estate license, he became one of
Alaska's youngest fulltime real estate brokers and operated his own firm. In
the early 1970s, he was active in the Anchorage Chapter of the Alaska Visitor's
Association. Under his leadership, his family said, the chapter grew to an all time high level of membership. A friend, Steve
Smirnoff, made the following statement: "Before the travel industry became
a giant economic force in the state, Win knew, and more importantly, understood
the value of the tourist to the Alaskan economy."
He was preceded in death by his father, Winston Sr.
Mr. Chance is survived by his wife, Emi, of Anchorage; his daughter
and soninlaw, Yvonne and Mike Gailey, of Anchorage;
his grandsons, Koji, Kenji and Seiji, all of Anchorage; his mother and
stepfather, Genie Chance and Bill Boardman, of Juneau; his sister, Jan Blankenship, of Juneau; his brother, Albert, of
Anchorage; and several aunts and cousins.
