A Special note about the 1820 Federal census records for Alabama: Much of the 1820 Federal Census for Alabama was lost. All that remains are 1820 census schedules for the following counties: Baldwin, Conecuh, Dallas, Franklin, Limestone, Shelby, St. Clair and Wilcox. [1]http://www.censusfinder.com/alabama.htm

Some links are for pay for view services. However, Edmund and Howard Blankenship were in Madison Co. for the 1811 census there (squatters) and that's about it until well after statehood. Madison Co. Historical Society has a pretty good site.

Also, remember that until well after 1818, Alabama was administered by the state of Mississippi. I find no Blankenships in the 1820 Alabama records. Just what is mentioned above.

fyi, there was a huge panic in Madison Co. AL before 1820. The squatters there developed an extensive IOU economy since the US gov't would not provide currency until after the treaty taking the property from the Indians was in force. Suddenly it all fell apart and just as in other panics, people were ruined and had to either retreat to old home grounds or go on westward. Many committed suicide.

So, that there is nothing about Edmund and Howard after those squatter censuses could be for lots of reasons.
