+2018, Alameda, Alameda Co., CA, Obituary

East Bay Times: Web Edition Articles (CA) - January 23, 2018

A woman credited with inspiring the "Rosie the Riveter" poster of World War II with its gutsy slogan of "We Can Do It!" that went on to represent female empowerment decades later, has died. Naomi Parker Fraley died in Washington, on Saturday, the same day that hundreds of thousands of women around the world took to the streets for the annual Women's March. She was 96, according to the New York Times.

Fraley was a 20-year-old civilian working at the former Alameda Naval Air Station shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor when a news photographer snapped a photo of her wearing coveralls and a polka dot bandana, hunched over a lathe. The aim was to highlight the strict dress code that the base commander had put down for women doing industrial jobs to boost the war effort: Slacks and turbans were mandatory. No sandals or open-toed shoes. Jewelry, including rings, was out. The photo appeared in an Oakland newspaper with a caption that said the clothing policy "hasn't made Miss Naomi Parker any less attractive." Newspapers across the country also published it.

Fraley saved the newspaper clipping among her family papers, and mostly forgot about it in the years after the war, she said in an interview with the Bay Area News Group in 2016. Then in 2009, she and her sister visited the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond for a "Rosie" reunion and saw the photo on display.

Accompanying information, however, identified another woman as the individual in the photo. "I was amazed," Fraley said. "I couldn't believe it. There was another person's name under my identity. But I knew it was actually me in the photo."

Fraley and her family launched a campaign to prove she was the woman who inspired artist J. Howard Miller to paint the iconic image of the woman flexing her bicep. (Miller created the poster for Westinghouse Electric to inspire the company's workers. During the war, "Rosie the Riveter" was more associated with a hit song by the same name and a painting by Norman Rockwell of a brawny Homefront worker on lunch break. Only in the early 1980s did Miller's poster emerge in popular culture as an image of female empowerment — and since then it can be found on T-shirts, coffee mugs and refrigerator magnets).

Among those who backed Fraley's claim as being the poster's likely inspiration was James J. Kimble, an associate professor of communication and the arts at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, who spent six years researching the image. Kimble was able to locate a copy of the original newspaper photo with the photographer's information on the back, including the date March 24, 1942, the location, Alameda, and the caption, "Pretty Naomi Parker looks like she might catch her nose in the turret lathe she is operating," according to the New York Times. While the discovery helped cement Fraley's claim, other researchers have said it remains impossible to know whether the artist ever saw the photo, and say that the woman in Miller's painting may have been a composite.

A representative of the National Park Service, which runs the Rosie the Riveter museum in Richmond, said in an email to the Bay Area News Group in 2016 that it does not promote the identity of any particular individual as the inspiration for the poster.

The New York Times reported that Fraley, who worked as a waitress after the war, died at an assisted living facility.

Her survivors include her son, Joseph Blankenship; four stepsons, Ernest, Daniel, John and Michael Fraley; two stepdaughters, Patricia Hood and Ann Fraley; and two sisters, Ada Wyn Parker Loy and Althea Hill.

2019, Berkeley, Alameda Co., CA, Obituary

San Francisco Chronicle (CA) - April 18, 2017

John Blankenship, a very loyal friend and colleague left us unexpectedly while traveling in Holland visiting some friends he met in Cuba. He was born and raised in Montana which always had a special place in his heart even as he came to love the Bay Area. For many years he challenged his friends in amusing ways we often enjoyed enormously.

As a young man he went to Cornell to study architecture and ended up in Peru on an archaeology dig. In between he studied at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara and then finished his architectural studies at UCLA.

His architectural career included working at several prominent architectural firms in the Bay Area. He was involved in the architectural community including serving as a president of the Berkeley Design Advocates.

A relentless culture vulture, he was always on the cutting edge of what was happening in the arts. He traveled widely with great enthusiasm for new experiences and always brought back great photos and stories and a bottle of wine to share.

In honor of his last wishes his ashes will be scattered in National Glacier Park in Montana.

2017, Williams, Colusa Co., CA, Obituary

Appeal-Democrat (Marysville - Yuba City, CA) - May 31, 2017

Trevo Nokes Lecce passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017 in Williams, California, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nixa, Missouri to Newton J. Nokes and Ottie E Stutesman.

She was born into a large family of 6 brothers, Raymond, Milford, Manford, Lloyd, Jimmy, Gerald, and two sisters, Merle and Eula. She spent a great deal of her childhood being raised on the small family farm in Nixa. At the tender age of 11 she found herself in the unenviable position of having to raise her two smaller brothers after her mother abruptly left the home. She grew up fast, having to learn to cook, clean, can food, wash clothes and tend to the chickens. It appeared she had no regrets, however, and is proud of the time she spent on the farm and her contributions to the family. Her memories of "the home place" stayed with her always. She spoke lovingly and longingly of the farm and of her beautiful state of Missouri.

In 1946 her older sister, Merle, convinced her to move to California "to get a life" so at the age of 17 she made the trip. She met and subsequently married Frank S. Lecce and had two daughters, Diana and Kathy. She loved her little home in Colusa and took pleasure in her favorite things: cooking, and learning how to cook Italian, baking, gardening and sewing clothes for her two girls.

She had learned at an early age to play the guitar and she so very much loved her music. She could often be seen in the kitchen, guitar in hand, singing her heart out her beloved country music. She was a member of the California Old Time Fiddlers for many years until her health failed.

In later years, after the marriage ended in divorce, she met an angel, John J. Troughton, Sr. and he truly was her angel on earth. He looked after her and loved her like no other. They were companions and best friends for over 20 years.

She is survived by her daughters Diana Locey (James) of Yuba City, and Kathy Dye (James) of Colusa; her precious grandchildren, Andrea Locey Blankenship (James), great grandchildren Jake and Alex, El Dorado Hills; grandson Stephen MacPherson (Mandi), and great granddaughter Jenna, Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, and great grandsons Chase & Chad MacPherson, of Spokane, Washington.

Graveside services will be held at the Williams Cemetery on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:00 am.

2016, Fresno, Fresno Co., CA, Obituary

The Fresno Bee, (CA) - December 7, 2016

Douglas MacArthur Versola, Sr. was born on November 15, 1942, at St. Francis Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA, to Leo and Mary (Bisquera) Versola.

He was the youngest of four boys. He met the love of his life, Anne, in 1968, and was married the following year. They were blessed with their first child, Patricia, in 1973, their second daughter Christine, in 1975, and a son, Doug Jr., in 1977.

Doug was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and had a special bond with each one of them. Doug's work ethic was immeasurable. He was taught at a young age the value and reward of hard work. At the age of five, he would sweep the back of his parent's restaurant to earn money for ice cream. Throughout his school years, Doug worked with his parents and brothers in various restaurants owned by his parents; during this time, he developed a love for cooking and a passion for the restaurant business.

In addition to school and work, Doug also had undeniable athletic abilities and enjoyed playing football. He attended Santa Barbara High School where he played left defensive tackle and was a starting kicker on the varsity football team. During his senior year, in 1960, the Santa Barbara Don's won the CIF Championship. In 1961, the St. Luis Rams offered him a position on the team as a kicker but due to an ankle injury, he turned down the position. He later enlisted in the United States Army where he served a total of eight years working as a supply, cook and earned a sharpshooter badge along with other accommodations.

While in the reserves, he returned to Santa Barbara and was offered a position with Pep Boys as a tire installer. His incredible work ethic, charisma and leadership skills, quickly led him up the ladder. Doug retired from Pep Boys in 1988, as a District Manager. He earned the respect of many people during his 30 year career. His career with Pep Boys included a move to Fresno, CA in 1987, where he spent the last 29 years. Still unable to fathom the idea of retirement, he began working as a supervisor at a local Indian casino, finally retiring in 2004.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed many things but his true passions were cars, especially Corvettes, and gaming, especially cards. He had a smile that could light up a room, a laugh that was contagious, a great sense of humor and loved life. He had a strong sense of respect, responsibility, loyalty, honesty and most significantly, family. He spent his remaining years surrounded by family and friends who loved, respected and admired him. He is truly missed and leaves behind a legacy to be proud of.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Charles, James and David.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife of 47 years, Anne (Margaret Davenport); his daughter, Patricia Blankenship and husband Herbert; his daughter, Christine; son, Douglas Jr.; and his grandchildren, Codi, Justin, Jovanie, Brandon, Tyler, Olivia, and Abigail.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Columba's Anglican Church, 5073 N. Palm Ave., near the corner of Palm and Shaw, on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 10:30 a.m.

+2018, Prattville, Plumas Co., CA, Obituary

Plumas County News (CA) - October 19, 2018

Arthur Warlick Blankenship.

This human dynamo was born on March 2, 1929, in Venice, under the zodiac sign of Pisces, the fish. He lived up to his sign, and became a great fisherman; not only of Salmonidae, but of people too. With a heart of service to others, Dad shared his positive energy and a "born to succeed" attitude with everyone he met. Never lacking in humor; in his later years one could often hear Dad advise — "You have to suck, suck and suck, in order to succeed."

Sunday, Oct. 28, we gather not only to celebrate his life, which would have been wonderful enough! But also, we gather to recognize his lasting inspiration, his commitment to family, and his tremendous example of a life lived with loving-kindness.

At age 89, after a long and beautiful life, the Lord called Arthur Warlick Blankenship Junior home. He died peacefully in Auburn on Sept. 23, 2018. He was the oldest of three children born to Arthur and Senta Blankenship.

Art grew up in Los Angeles when hunting rabbits was not only legal, but was a necessity to put food on the table. His dad and mom taught him hunting and fishing skills they learned while growing up in Texas. His dad also started a house painting business and Art learned the house painting trade along with his brother Robert.

On Aug. 14, 1947, Art married the love of his life, Betty Ann Truitt. They settled in Studio City and started a family. Their first two children, Rick and Nancy, were born before 1951 when they then decided to move the family north. Dad wanted to try his hand in ranching and raise the children in the country. They had adventure in their hearts as they loaded up their Ford, and with the support of their parents, headed for Oregon to view and hopefully purchase a ranching homestead. After a long drive to Oregon with a stop along the way in Auburn, they were disappointed to see the property full of rocks making it impossible to farm or ranch. Art, Betty and family then headed back south to Auburn to stay with friends and sort out their options. It didn't take them long to fall in love with Auburn and decide to stay and grow roots in the area, making Auburn their home for 17 years.

Art and Betty had two more children, Randy and Dan and they grew their ranch enterprise into 130 acres of owned and leased land and 62 head of cattle (including three horses and Bashful the family dog) Ever the multi-tasker, Art worked many jobs, often simultaneously! He once traded his house painting services with the local doctor to deliver their son Daniel Sam.

Eventually he used his house painting skills to land a painter position at Dewitt State Hospital. Through hard work and promotions Art advanced through painter and building trade positions, and in 1968 he was promoted to Chief of Plant Operations. This promotion was bitter sweet since it was located at Atascadero State Hospital in Atascadero and their Happy Hills Ranch had to be sold. Oldest son Rick stayed in Auburn to attended college, while the rest of the family moved to Atascadero.

At Atascadero State Hospital, Art promoted again to Chief of Plant Operations III, and enjoyed working with many skilled tradespersons and staff while helping to keep the Hospital Operations running efficiently. Art retired at age 62, and during his retirement celebration the staff honored his years of service by dedicating a park, adjacent to the Hospital, in his name.

Art was a great builder and artist. Each home purchased was added on to, not out of the desire to decorate, but with the need to house his family. His last home in Atascadero he built from the ground up. He worked many long days and taught his children the value of a strong work ethic. His children were blessed to learn the crafts of building and ranching, as near indentured servants and certainly everyone knew their contribution gave value to the ranch and all "earned their keep."

Art was blessed with great leadership skills including the ability to encourage and motivate his family, friends and colleagues. His high dynamo energy was infectious to all those who came in touch with him and his positive energy will forever continue to ripple through our lives. Art was active with many civic groups including the Elks Lodge, Shriners Hospital, the Masonic Lodge and churches.

Even though Art was always busy, he took time to enjoy and spend time with his family. He took his family on many fishing, hunting and camping trips. Art always had a worthy fishing vessel that was often used to haul the family around water skiing when the fishing turned slow. Art encouraged his children's varied occupations and activities leading to gatherings at football games, baseball games, soccer games, dance performances, endurance races, various barn raisings (helping his children with building projects) and 4H fairs. Always taking time to listen, share, and encourage. Art spent many vacations with his grandchildren and has left each with a strong sense of love, respect and determination.

After Art's retirement in 1991, Art and Betty enjoyed many vacations in their motor home. Vacations included trips to the east coast and through the south, reconnecting with some of his family in Texas. Also, they enjoyed a long motor home trip to Alaska where they marveled at the huge expanse and all the wildlife, as well as the superb fishing. Many more local vacations occurred as they visited family throughout California and included trips to Lake Almanor. Art and Betty especially loved vacationing at the Lake, enjoying the fishing, friends, and scenery.

In 2000 with adventure once again in their hearts, they decided to buy a lake front lot in Prattville by Camp Wilson. Within months, after asking each of their children, they sold their home in Atascadero and moved to Prattville to live in their motor home while their Autumn Dreams home was built.

Art and Betty's Autumn Dreams home was host to many great gatherings, often around July 4th or in the winter for snowmobiling. A deep friendship grew with their neighbors in Prattville and Chester. Art and Betty became members of the United Methodist Church in Chester and enjoyed working with the congregation to help serve the community. Along with helping neighbors with projects in the community, Art found time to start woodcarving. An artist and builder at heart, Art continued to perfect his carving talents and decorated his home with many beautiful carvings over the years.

After a long and happy marriage of 62 years, Betty passed away in October 2008. At the time of Betty's passing Art suffered a severe stroke and was air lifted out of Chester to Chico. Art fought back to regain most of his strength so he could continue to live at Autumn Dreams. His left arm had lost strength after the stroke so without hesitation Art, through prayer, realized he needed a puppy!

Art and Betty had lost their last dog, Sierra, a golden retriever, recently and Art was feeling the need for a companion and a new responsibility to hold on to. Art located a yellow Labrador breeder and off he headed to find a new pup. Upon visiting with the litter, one pup with a marking running down her snout and named Zipper settled on Art's lap and a strong bond formed immediately. Zipper was welcomed in to Art's home and truly was the medicine he needed, helping to once again build up Art's strength, which allowed him to fish and continue his adventure at Prattville. Zipper still enjoys the lake making her new home with Ken and Debbie Wilson — Art was so blessed with his loving neighbors.

In his "retirement" Art kept busy helping neighbors and working with the Prattville Volunteer Fire Dept., helping with the Eagle Lake trout planting program and taking time to continue fishing for "Walter" either by land in the winter or by boat. He enjoyed spending time with the many great friends he made in Prattville and Chester.

If one were to try to sum up Art's philosophy on life, it might be in one of his memorable one-liners. Dad had plenty of "Dad-isms." Like when someone was having a difficult time, he'd quip, "Everyone gets a turn in the barrel." Or if one's past was holding up their future, he'd say, "Remember to turn the page." But mainly his philosophy was simply to remind us that God is Love, and everyone needs to love one another.

In 2011, Art married Nancie Cleary, also a member of the United Methodist Church. They continued to enjoy their involvement with the Church, activities in Chester and Prattville including growing productive and beautiful gardens at Autumn Dreams. Dad enjoyed many visits with Nancie's children and grandchildren at Autumn Dreams and in their homes throughout the Sacramento Valley.

Art was also predeceased by his sister, Lena Senta and brother, Robert Lee.

He is survived by his second wife Nancie, his daughter and husband, Nancy and Randy Rowland and three sons and their wives: Rick and Kathy, Randy and Rhoda, and Dan and Barbara. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Chester.

The Patriarch of the Soden Family lived and enjoyed the righteous life that God desired and guided his family down that same path. And Ramon did it the right way during his 87 years - he didn't drink -- he didn't smoke -- and he didn't have any vices. He was all about family, sports, helping others, serving the Lord, and living life to the fullest. We should all take a lesson from this great man. Ramon was as happy playing in Senior Softball Leagues as hanging out with family members and grandchildren, singing in the choir, RV'ing, or assisting others in need at Sunrise Community Church.

Ramon was born in Castile, NY and joined the Marine Air Corp at the age of 19. He earned his pilot's license and specialized in training fellow Marines on four aircraft fire-fighting teams. Upon exiting the military three-years later, he attended John Brown University in Arkansas where he pursued and attained a Mechanical Engineering degree. At 26, Ramon earned his Commercial Pilots license. He also put his degree to great use in a long and rewarding career working for aviation and technology giants Boeing, Sylvania, and Lear-Siegler. He also worked as a design engineer on launch consoles for rockets at the Kennedy Space Center. For the last 28 years before he officially retired, he worked as a design engineer at the Sacramento US Army Depot. Ramon was an exceptional God-fearing man that will be missed by all!

+2019, Sacramento, Sacramento Co., CA, Obituary

Statesville Record & Landmark (NC) - October 9, 2019

Ray Kent Troutman was born March 19, 1930, at the Statesville Brickyard in Statesville. Ray Kent passed away in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday, Feb. 27, surrounded by family and friends.

Ray Kent got off to a rough start; his mother had trouble providing enough nourishment for him and Ray Kent nearly starved. Maybe that is one reason why an argument one could never win against him was "clean up your plate". He grew up on Rural Route 7, now known as Troutman Farm Rd. in Troutman. He attended school in Troutman until he reached high school where he decided to hitch hike into Statesville in order to take the higher level math classes at Statesville High School. The will to survive and to persist stayed with Ray Kent all his life. He was an outstanding student at Statesville High and a hard worker on the farm. Ray Kent brought in the hay, picked cotton, plowed behind a team, slopped hogs, and kept the machinery repaired. He delivered papers, saved Blue Horse notebook coupons and earned a bicycle during World War II so that he could deliver the news to concerned citizens. At one point school and farm work came into conflict. Principal Wheeler at Statesville High chastised Ray Kent's father, a fellow educator, stating that it was wrong to keep Ray Kent out of school to work on the farm for extended periods of time.

Ray Kent missed being an Eagle Scout because he never had the luxury of learning to swim. He always loved ice cream and managed to get a lifelong scar when he hooked up the ringer washer to the ice cream maker, accident prone like most Troutmans. At Statesville High he met the love of his life, high society, popular girl Jo Ann Blankenship. Throughout his life, Jo Ann was the soothing balm and the political strategist that softened the edges of Ray Kent's ambitious and hard driving personality. Ray Kent obtained his undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University; he earned a Master's Degree in Engineering at University of Kentucky, and a Master's Degree in Finance at Golden Gate University San Francisco. Ray Kent perfected jet engines at General Electric Corporation and retired from the US Air Force, a full "Bird" Colonel. Residing in Fort Worth, Texas for many years, an avid member of the Cow Town A's (Model A Fords, what else?),

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3 pm, at the Troutman Historical Association on Troutman Farm Road.

He could restore any piece of furniture to its original condition or make it look like a total different piece.

He moved to San Fernando Valley in 1954, before his third child was born, to buy a house. He commuted to and from the valley for many years. In 1989, Bob and Pat decided to "retire" in Big Bear where he built a beautiful house for Pat. Bob didn't stay retired long, he began working for Interiors where he worked for several more years. After retiring from Interiors he still took on remodeling and furniture restoration jobs just to keep busy.

Bob spent many years volunteering at Reseda Baptist Church as a deacon, Boys Christian Service Brigade, adult and career Sunday school teacher, Discovery Center in Big Bear, and First Baptist Church of Big Bear. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and most of all spending time with the love of life, his beautiful wife Pat. Bob was loved and respected by everyone he met, he had a heart as big as the outdoors, and a smile that would melt your heart! Until we meet again Bob, you will be missed.

+2018, Palo Alto, Santa Clara Co., CA, Obituary

The Daily News, (Palo Alto, CA) - October 16, 2018

Oakland resident Emma Louis-Dreyfus, the younger half-sister of "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, died of a seizure after overdosing on cocaine and alcohol while on a camping trip in the Sierra Nevada, the Daily Mail is reporting.

The 44-year-old San Mateo County social worker died on or around Aug. 13 at a campsite close to a popular hiking trail in South Yuba River State Park, north of Nevada City, Nevada County authorities told the Union newspaper in Grass Valley.

First responders went to a campsite, a quarter-mile upstream of Purdon Crossing, at about 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 13 after receiving reports of a woman having a seizure and becoming unresponsive. Three or four other people were with Louis-Dreyfus at the campsite.

Nevada County Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Sullivan ruled Emma Louis-Dreyfus' death accidental following the results of a toxicology test. She had elevated amounts of cocaine and alcohol in her system, Sullivan told the Union.

News about Emma Louis-Dreyfus' death comes as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 57, admitted at an event earlier this month that she is "very lucky" to be alive following her diagnosis with breast cancer in September 2017, the Daily Mail reported.

It doesn't appear that the sisters were close, though the "Seinfeld" actress was listed as one of Emma Louis-Dreyfus' survivors in her obituary, the Daily Mail reported.

The women share the same father, the late French-born businessman Gerard "William" Louis-Dreyfus, who was the head of a powerful family commodities-trading firm and whose net worth was estimated to be $3.4 billion in 2006.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the daughter of William Louis-Dreyfus' first wife, Judith LeFever, a writer and special needs tutor, whom he divorced the year after the future actress was born in 1961.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, one of the most awarded actors in television history, ended up being raised by her mother and stepfather in Washington, D.C., where she attended high school at the prestigious Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland, the alma mater of Palo Alto University Professor Christine Blasey Ford.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was among hundreds of Holton-Arms alumnae who signed a letter of support for Blasey Ford, who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of trying to sexually assault her when she was a student there.

Emma Louis-Dreyfus was born to William Louis-Dreyfus and his second wife, Phyllis Blankenship. She grew up in New York City, then attended Brown University, where she received a bachelor's degree in psychology, according to her obituary. She moved to the Bay Area in 1998 and received a master's degree in social work from UC Berkeley.

In her career, Emma Louis-Dreyfus had worked as a clinical social worker and family therapist and was a graduate fellow in infant-parent mental health. She had been employed as a bilingual clinician at Star Vista, an agency that provides counseling, crisis prevention, youth housing and other programs to people in San Mateo County, according to her Facebook page.

But like her older half-sister, it's likely that Emma Louis-Dreyfus didn't necessarily have to work, given her late family's wealth. The Daily Mail reported that she died with an estate valued at $23 million. An Oct. 3 probate filing in Alameda County granted her mother, Phyllis Louis-Dreyfus, the authority over her estate.

Still, Emma Louis-Dreyfus was a "brilliant, progressive thinker and supporter of social justice." In addition to enjoying a career that involved helping other people, she also had an entrepreneurial spirit. The Daily Mail also reported that in July she set up a company, Etta Duane Industries, for the purpose of developing property for marijuana production in California. She had invested $4.5 million into the project.

In addition to work, Emma Louis-Dreyfus loved to travel and to get into the outdoors, particularly in the Sierra Nevada and the Tetons, her obituary said, adding that one of her favorite getaways was the Yuba River.

Kristin Anne Jensen: 25Sep1968 - 30Jun2016 - Resident of Aptos

In the early morning hours Krissie passed away, finally defeated by the type 1 diabetes she had valiantly fought for 37 years. Kristin left us in Dominican Hospital, [Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Co., CA] just down the corridor from where she was born.

Kris grew up in Aptos, attending Mar Vista elementary, Aptos Junior, Aptos High and Renaissance High. She married the love of her life, Kevin Howell in 1987 while he was stationed at Travis Air Force base. Their son, Andrew was born in 1989. Kris and Kevin later divorced, however they remained close in the family motel business in Utah. Over the years, she faced many health challenges and had open heart surgery in 2013. She has lived with and been close to her sister and parents for the past four years with many good times together, including a couple of family cruises through the Panama Canal and Hawaii.

She returned to her Heavenly Father to be greeted by her two brothers, Michael and Robert; her grandparents T. H. and Anna Jensen and Melvin and Pearl Wheadon.

Sadly, those left behind to grieve and say "what if" are her parents Rodney and Iris Jensen; her beloved sister and best friend Janae; and her beloved son, Andrew Howell and his wife Becca. She is also survived by her aunts Delores Jensen Blankenship and Norma Jensen Fidel, both of McMinnville, OR, and many loving cousins. Included with her mourners is her faithful companion, a little terrier named "Rowdy".

We will celebrate her life by continuing to plan the family cruise she was looking forward to.

Friends and family are invited to attend a service to say our last goodbyes at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., in Santa Cruz on Monday, July 11, 2016 beginning at 11 am. Kristin's last flight home will be brought to a close in South, Jordan, UT. There she will be laid to rest next to her brothers, in a small country cemetery where five generations of her mother's family will keep her company.

The Press Democrat, (Santa Rosa, CA) Date: July 26, 2015

William Greer, [November 30, 1928 - July 19, 2015] Age 86, passed away in his home on Sunday, July 19, with his family at his side. Bill was a lover and a fighter; he fought cancer for many years to remain on earth with the family and the life that he loved. Bill was born in Canalou, Missouri, to Vinon and Oma Greer on November 30, 1928.

When he was a teenager Bill, his mother, and one sister moved to San Francisco where Bill attended high school. He also worked for the Department of Forestry before joining the Air Force in 1948. Bill met the love of his life, Joyce Johnson, while serving in the Air Force in Washington DC. They met in 1951 and Bill proposed to her while parked under the Washington Monument. They married in 1952 and had two daughters. Bill served in the Air Force for 20 years. In that time he was stationed in Alaska in the year it became a state, and he flew around the world as military police for Vice President Nixon. He retired from the Air Force in 1968, moved to Rohnert Park and worked for twenty years as a correctional officer at San Quentin. He was a Mason of the Petaluma/Hamilton Lodge for 54 years. Bill had a variety of interests and hobbies throughout his life, including but not limited to: motorcycles, bicycles (the pinnacle being bicycling around Ireland), hunting, and history. His most lasting hobby was participating in field trials with his multi-award winning English Springer Spaniels. Next to his wife, his biggest love in life was the open road- preferably a road he had never travelled. Once Bill was fully retired, he and Joyce enjoyed several adventures across most of the United States. From sea to shining sea, their preferred mode of travel was their camper van, and they enjoyed spending time with family and friends from their military days along the way. Ask Bill what his favorite destination was, and the answer was always an immediate: Alaska! Family and friends will always remember Bill for being tough, tenacious and tender.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Shirley (Harland) Blankenship and Jeanette (Bill) Fuller.

He is survived by wife, Joyce; daughters, Robin Greer (Bruce Griewe) and Stacey (Dave) Dougherty; grandchildren, Jaime (Ashley) Evans and Delaney Dougherty; cousin, Spencer (Carol) Greer; and nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family service.

2017, Modesto, Stanislaus Co., CA, Obituary

The Modesto Bee, (CA) - October 3, 2017

Tamara Ann Hyman June 22, 1955 - September 24, 2017. She is resting in peace. Our hearts are broken with her passing. Tamara possessed a gentle soul and a warm heart. She was born on June 22, 1955 in Ada, Oklahoma.

Tamara was always proud of her Native American heritage and was an active member of the Seminole Nation organization. She attended Thomas Downey High school and Modesto Junior College, where she studied language arts. She always showed a creative and artistic sensibility and enjoyed reading and writing poetry as well as listening to music that spoke to her.

Tamara met the love of her life, Gary Hyman at age 21. She always supported his ventures and passions, (his musical talent, boat racing, cars and motorcycles). Her husband races boats and though she hated it because she worried so much about him, she sent him to Washington for his birthday in early September as her last gift to him. The two of them enjoyed collecting antiques and Tamara even opened a few shops of her own to follow her love of the business.

Tamara’s children were her lifeblood. Stefani and Guerin meant the world to her and there is nothing she wouldn't have done for them. Tamara was a deeply devoted mother. She was involved in every aspect of her children's lives'. Her son Guerin's baseball career made her proud and fulfilled. Her daughter Stefani sought comfort in the relationship the two had and they spoke multiple times everyday. She was funny, clever, stunningly beautiful and loved to laugh. Her heart was so open and full of thoughtfulness. She absolutely loved children and was always giving gifts and treats to neighborhood children, friends' children and even children of Facebook friends she had never met in person. She was a phenomenal cook and enjoyed time in the kitchen making meals for her family. Sunday dinner as a family became a ritual. Her brisket, homemade noodles, chicken marsala and lasagna were epic.

She is preceded in death by her beloved Father Robert Allgood; Mother Margie Blankenship; Sister Terri Lacy and her adored son Guerin Hyman.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Gary Hyman, and daughter, Stefani Hyman.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Tamara's life will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at The Chapel at 704 14th St. (corner of 14th and G), Modesto, CA.

Published in Daily News on Feb. 18, 2017

Muriel Fay Aasve Blankenship, a longtime resident of Tehama County, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 with family at her bedside on Thursday December 22, 2016. She was born February 17, 1931 in Duluth, Minnesota to Winfred (Win) and Senia Aasve.

The family later moved to Gladstone, Michigan where Muriel graduated from high school. Muriel went on to attend Michigan College of Mining and Technology (now Michigan Technological University) where she graduated in May 1953 and earned a Bachelor's degree with honor in General Science (Medical Technology major). She was one of 9 women in her graduating class of 305 students. She then moved to Flint, Michigan where she worked at Flint Medical Laboratory and met her future husband, Dewey Arthur Blankenship. Muriel and Dewey were married at Trinity Episcopal Church in Gladstone, Michigan on August 1, 1953. Muriel's sister Ann, and her close friend and cousin Barbara Isaacson were her bridesmaids that summer day.

After the wedding, Muriel and Dewey lived in the Michigan and Wisconsin areas while Dewey worked towards his degree and Muriel gave birth to two daughters, Margaret Alice (called Peggy) and Senia Jean. In 1961, the family of four moved out to California and this is where two sons were born, Arthur Paul and Andy Jon.

They raised their four children in Red Bluff where Art (Dewey started going by his middle name in California) was a teacher and Muriel worked as a medical technologist (now called a clinical laboratory scientist) at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for 20 years. She was very good at her job and loved her work. She was often called to take difficult blood samples from little infants in the hospital because of her skill and gentle nature. Blood donation was important to both Muriel and her husband, and they gave regularly throughout their lives. She had a love of photography and used to develop her own photos from home. She loved to take photos of her children over the years, and often photographed flowers as well. Both she and Art enjoyed traveling. While their children were still young, the family made many trips cross country, often camping in National Parks along the way, and visited family that remained in the Mid West region.

Later in their retirement years, they continued to visit with family across the states, as well as took cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. Other travels took them to Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, France, England, and South Africa. Art and Muriel remained in the Red Bluff area throughout their later years. They were active members at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Red Bluff, where they took their children and grandchildren. They lived in Dairyville where they raised animals, had an apricot orchard, and Muriel tended to her lovely rose garden.

They had been married for 53 years at the time of Art's death in 2006. Muriel will be remembered by her family as a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She had a sweet disposition that carried on even through her years of struggle with Alzheimer's. Her dementia did not define her. She was an intelligent and lovely woman, who lived her life to the fullest.

She is survived by her daughter Peggy Whitten and son-in-law Greg of Red Bluff, daughter Senia Owensby and son-in-law Wayne of Red Bluff, son Arthur Blankenship and daughter-in-law Pennie of Auburn, and son Andy Blankenship of Red Bluff. She also had 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Art, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Ann Lee; and grandchildren, John Henry Whitten and Katie Anne Whitten.

A memorial service will be held at Community Baptist Church on Saturday, February 25th at 11:00 am.

2015, Thousand Oaks, Ventura Co., CA, Death

Camarillo Acorn (CA) - June 5, 2015

Deceased Name: Christina Blankenship - Man accused of supplying niece with drugs that killed her Woman died of methadone overdose. Another week, another major case brought forth by the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit, a joint task force that works to combat prescription drug abuse.

On May 27, the Ventura County district attorney's office announced that, based on an investigation by the task force, it was filing charges against 64-year-old Paul Giannotta of Thousand Oaks in the death of his niece, 33-yearold Christina Blankenship of Moorpark.

Blankenship died of a methadone overdose in her home Oct. 28, according to a statement released by the task force. Police said Giannotta was providing the woman with pills. When police arrived at Blankenship 's home in response to a call about a person not breathing, they found her dead inside the home and found information at the scene that led them to believe Giannotta was the person supplying the drugs that killed her, Ventura County Sheriff's Detective Robert Davidson said. "There wasn't any stretch of the imagination the drug was his," he said. "There wasn't any question." The Ventura County medical examiner's office determined that methadone was a significant contributing factor in Blankenship 's death.

Investigators served search warrants at Blankenship 's home and at Giannotta's home in the 1600 block of Sweet Briar Place in Thousand Oaks, the statement said. On May 25, the district attorney's office charged Giannotta with involuntary manslaughter and furnishing methadone, with a special enhancement of causing great bodily injury during the commission of a felony. He will be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court on June 25.

Methadone is a controlled substance used to manage pain as well as help break heroin and opiate addictions, Davidson said. "I'm not a doctor or pharmacist, but having spoken with many of them, I understand it's unique in that it reacts very differently from one person to another," he said. "I could take double the amount you could take and not have any reaction while you have quite a severe reaction." Methadone isn't the most common narcotic the unit sees in the area, "but it's up there," Davidson said.

The detective said Gianotta is not a known drug dealer to the crimes unit and investigators have no evidence he has distributed drugs to others.
