Lt. Col. Herbel was born in Liberal, Kan., on Dec. 26, 1949. He married Barbara Jo Warren Herbel, 1977. He served in the Air Force. He was an aeronautical engineer at Buckley Air National Guard Base. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association, Planetary Society and BMW Club of America.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Emily and Katie, both of Englewood; parents Albert and Helen of Oklahoma; brother the Rev. Richard Herbel of Michigan; sister Sheila Blankenship of Oklahoma.

Mr. Mangels is survived by his wife, Ethel Louise Mangels, Gypsum, Colo.; two sons, John Mangels, Paul Mangels, both of Hampton, Conn.; one daughter, Patty Mangels, Connecticut; three stepdaughters, Debra Carr, Roanoke, Julie Luke, Virginia Beach, Cynthia Blankenship, Vail, Colo.; one brother, Henry Mangels, Florida; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 1999 from the Harrison Funeral Chapel with John Delaney, Jr. officiating with burial to follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel with the Rev. Richard W. Heide officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Parks Cemetery, Memphis, Tenn.

Mr. Blankenship was born March 6, 1948, in Memphis, to Jewel (Jones) Blankenship, who survives and resides in Goldbar, Wash. He had been a resident of the area since June 1987. He served in the Army from Feb. 25, 1976, to Feb. 24, 1979, and served in the Army Reserves until Feb. 5, 1982. Mr. Blankenship was married Oct. 26, 1984, in Lake Stevens, Wash., to Wilma (Young) Blankenship, who survives.

He also is survived by a son, Christopher of Colorado Springs; two stepsons, Bryan Gibson of Colorado Springs and Clinton Gibson of Seattle; three stepdaughters, Rhonda and Kathy Gibson and Tammy Maine, all of Seattle; and three step grandchildren.

Mr. Blankenship was born Dec. 28, 1913, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Charles and Luella (Woods) Blankenship. He was married Dec. 26, 1934, in Jellico, Tenn., to Bonnie Hardin, who is deceased.

He is survived by two sons, Charles Jr. of Black Forest and Joe Carl of Largo, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Blankenship had lived in Colorado Springs since 1985 and was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Black Forest. He also was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
