Blankenship, Carl D. 1st Lt USAF AO-1011278 January 8, 1953, Isle of Hope, GA

First Lieutenant Blankenship was the radar operator on a B-50D bomber with the 96th Bomb Squadron, 2nd Bomb Wing stationed at Hunter Air Force Base, Georgia. On January 8, 1953, the B-50D was on a training flight with eight other aircraft when it collided with another near the Isle of Hope, Georgia and crashed killing all nine on board. First Lieutenant Blankenship. was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

He was seriously wounded again in North Korea on April 17, 1953 and died of those wounds later that day.
