Toni Blankenship, July 21, 1943 - June 28, 2020

Jean “Toni” Blankenship passed away Monday, June 28, 2020. Early Monday morning, after hours of fighting, Toni went to join God. She is now at peace and filled with light.

She was the beloved Mother of Linde, Todd, Eve and Eric (Sheri). She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Toni’s affection was also felt by her four-footed family, including her 12-year-old Black Lab, Ally. She showed this adoration for animals through her support of ASPCA.

Even in death, she will continue to serve others. Toni made the decision to donate her body to scientific research, which is now in process.

Her Daytona family is together formalizing details and plans for remembrance. A celebration of life will be held in the future after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

She had a deep love for public servants, firefighters and nurses.

Miss Gloria Jean Blankenship, 67, of Cave Spring, died Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020, following a brief illness. Miss Blankenship was born in Rome May 22, 1953, a daughter of the late Bruce D. Blankenship and the late Lena Robinson Blankenship.

An avid Atlanta Braves fan, she was a 1971 graduate of Cave Spring High School, and was co-owner with her life long friend Vickie Jacobs of Vickie's Beauty Shop. A devoted sister, aunt and friend, Miss Blankenship was a life long member of the Live Oak Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years, and had also served as Bible School Director and choir director.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan Blankenship and Randy Blankenship, and by two nephews Brandon Blankenship and Kenneth Blankenship.

Miss Blankenship is survived by one brother, Robert Blankenship and his wife Brenda of Rome, and by two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Fricks and her husband Mike of Cave Spring, and Ms. Brenda Mount of Lindale. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday afternoon at the Live Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Jennings and Terry Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Adam Fricks, Lamar Fricks, Vann Blankenship, Bruce Blankenship, Jimmy Tate and Larry Hestely. James Ray Blankenship, born on January 11, 1936 in Reyno, AR, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020, at his home in Sugar Grove, IL, at the age of 84.

James, fondly known to many as Jim, lived his life in the service of others. He served his country as a Firefighter for the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves from 1957 to 1969. He continued to serve his community as a tool and die maker at the Darling Store Fixtures in Corning, Ark., and by spending his weekends helping his wife Florene at her grocery store and restaurant.

Jim and Florene met at a dance, one of their favorite pastimes, and married on May 20, 1978. Together they built a beautiful life in their Pollard, Ark., home where he loved to build and work with his hands, paint, fish and help in the garden. After Florene’s death in 2011, Jim moved to Sugar Grove, where he spent his last years surrounded by family, love and lots of great grandbabies.

Many will remember Jim best for the food and laughter shared at his dining room table (especially chocolate gravy in the morning), the infectious way he laughed, his affinity for John Wayne movies and the joy he found in every day.

Jim is survived by his children, David (Kellie) Blankenship of Sugar Grove, Ill., Debbie Sizemore of Florence, Ky. and Connie (Jeff) Palmer of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters Dorothy O’Neal of Rockford, Ill. and Genevieve Holland of Belleville, Ill.; grandchildren Brittany (Adam) Ruff of Michigan, Amber (Ryan) Slattery of Wisconsin, Kelley (Greg) Chrisse, Keith Runkle, Shelbie (Danny) Marek, and Josh Walsh of Illinois, Chad Lunsford, Brooks Sizemore, and Matthew Sizemore of Kentucky, Courtney Palmer of Texas, Alexis Palmer of Nebraska, LaTonya (Steve) Schreck, and Carol Cantu of Arkansas; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Florene Blankenship; his parents, Benjamin R Blankenship, and Susan M. (Justice) Blankenship; brothers, Benny Blankenship, John Blankenship, Vernon Blankenship and Bud Blankenship; sisters, Lorene Sheppard, Katherine Smith and Mildred Oxner; and stepson Ronnie Gunnels.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard, and will be followed by a burial ceremony at the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Jim will be buried with his beloved, Florene.

Ky was a great man. He had a passion in life for drywall and the Green Bay Packers. Although he was crazy as ever he was always the life of the party.

He was proceeded in death by his life long partner, Sherry Conaway, his son Stevie, his daughter Kristy their mother Sue, his brother Larry and his sister Judy. 

Garnett is survived in death by his daughters: Tanya (Jonathan) Feagans, Krystle Costello and Rachel Griesier. He had a special relationship with his niece Sarah Kaiser and his grandson Dwayne Garnett as well as several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Janet was the General Manager in the sales department at Montgomery Wards for many years. Janet was very involved in many entities of St. Mary Catholic Church such as the Altar Society, Coordinator to Dewitt Retreat Center, Catholic Charities of Aging, Eucharist Minister, taught 4th-grade religious instruction, and was chosen as the woman of the year in 2009. Everyone that knew Janet knew her heart could be won over with homemade Italian dishes. In her free time, Janet enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, listening to country music, bowling, and crocheting.

Janet leaves to cherish her memory her children: Rosemary Russell, Donna, and husband, Steve Schulke, Richard Miller, Anita, and husband, Matt Hilton; grandchildren: Jason Hayes, Luke Miller, Nicole Schulke, Matthew Hilton, Heather Hilton; 9 great-grandchildren and her best friend Romana Ondovcsik.

He was a founding member of the Cathedral of Tomorrow with Rev. Rex Humbard where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was most recently a member of the Chapel in Wadsworth with pastor Zachary Derr. He loved attending the Upwards basketball tournaments every Saturday where they encouraged the youth to engage in Christian fellowship and good sportsmanship. He has supported many ministries over the years. He loved to listen to southern gospel music and eating at the Dutch Kitchen. His best memories were of his family and his trip that he and Florence had taken to Israel. He will be deeply missed by family and countless friends until that day when we are all reunited in heaven.

He leaves behind his caring sisters Josephine Kirk, Patricia Pepe and sister in law Natalie Charnuk. He was the loving father of Rebecca, Paul W (Jr.) and Beverly (Richard) Taylor of Murrysville PA.

He was reunited in heaven through his passing with his loving and faithful wife of 53 years Florence, Parents Jesse and Mary Blankenship, brother Jesse and sister in law June Blankenship, brother Benjamin and sister-in-law Rita Blankenship, sister Ermogene and brother in law Ed Charnuk, brother-in-law Ralph Kirk, brother-in-law Vince Pepe, father-in-law Melvin Welton, mother-in-law Ruth Welton, sisters-in-law Pattie Klusty and Virginia Welton.

Funeral services will be at 7 pm, on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at the Chapel Wadsworth, 1391 State Rd, Wadsworth, with pastor Zachary Derr officiating. Paul will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 9560 Acme Road, Seville with full military honors.

James was the owner of Acme School Supply Company for more than 35 years and was involved in many community projects. He was a horse enthusiast, enjoying raising and showing Tennessee Walking Horses. He was a member of NSSEA and the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. Graduating from Jackson County High School, he went on to attend Tennessee Tech and then served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

James is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Alice West; 2 sisters, Edna McCawley and Polly Murphy; daughter-in-law, Brenda Bean; son-in-law, Richard Chopyak.

He is survived by son, Jerry Bean, White House, TN; daughter, Harolene Chopyak, Scottsdale, AZ; his beautiful 93 year old sister, Frances Cassetty, Jackson County, TN; several loving nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Lexington High School in 1967 and graduated from West Tennessee Business College. She married Larry Edward Holmes. They made their home at Middlefork. She worked in management at WBBJ and Channel 16. She then worked as Legal Secretary for Attorney Tom Anderson and later as Secretary while Mr. Anderson served as a Federal Judge in Memphis. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church. She enjoyed riding horses when she was younger. She enjoyed adult coloring books, rummage sales and antiquing. She enjoyed spending time with her son Jason.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry Holmes (2016) and a brother, Danny Blankenship.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by her son, Jason Holmes of Huron; a brother-in-law, Don Holmes (Pam) and sister-in-law, Brenda Copeland and several nieces and nephews.

Beth Ann (Emsoff) Blankenship - affectionately called “Mimi” - 87, of San Angelo and Lewisville, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 5, with her son, Lee at her side, at Evergreen Senior Living Facility in Lewisville. Beth was born on September 22, 1932, in Seymour, Baylor County, Texas, to Clarence Edward “Slim” and Willie Alma (Long) Emsoff.

Beth attended Seymour High School and graduated in the class of 1950. Following graduation, she worked as a Deputy for the Baylor County Sheriff's Office. On August 30, 1958, she married Royce Burrell Blankenship in Seymour. Beth and Royce lived in Seymour then moved to Perryton, Texas, where they both worked for GTE. They eventually moved to San Angelo, Texas, where their son, Lee, was born. Beth continued to work for GTE until she retired in 1989. Beth eventually moved from San Angelo to Lewisville, Texas, in 2011 to be closer to Lee and Missy’s family. She loved Celine Dion’s music, the Dallas Cowboys, playing bingo, watching golf, attending exercise class faithfully, and most of all, her brother Joe Bob’s fried catfish. Beth was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Concho Valley Pioneers Telephone Association. She had a passion for traveling with her son and spending time with her grandchildren whenever possible. Beth will always be remembered for her incredibly loving and caring nature, her spunky attitude, and her “German hard-headedness.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce, and her step-daughter, Betty Jean “Jeannie” (Blankenship) Day.

Beth is survived by her son, Lee Stacy Blankenship and his wife, Melissa “Missy” Lyn (Schulze) Blankenship and granddaughters, Margaret “Maggie” Ann Blankenship of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Emma Katherine (Blankenship) Veidt and her husband, Ryan Veidt of Denver, Colorado; her step-son, Royce “Ikie” Blankenship and his wife, Annie of Terral, Oklahoma; her two step-grandsons and their families, Steve and Ronda Collier of Saginaw, Texas, and Scott and Stacy Day of Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was a devoted Christian since Oct. 3, 1972, a loving wife, mother, Nanny/Maw Maw, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She loved spending time with her family and listening to Gospel music. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed playing piano at church, gardening, canning, crocheting, cooking family dinners and attending the Church of Christ with her husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two special sisters, Diana Walls Stepp and Carole Walls Thompson; and her “favorite son-in-law”, Mark Lee Fischer.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Mr. Delmer Blankenship. They shared almost 61 wonderful years of marriage and three children together. Delmer provided love, comfort, laughter and care to the love of his life, especially during the past 15 years; her two sons, Rodney Joe Blankenship (Kim), of Wharncliffe, and Darrick Shane Blankenship (Rebecca), of Louisville, Tenn.; one daughter, Pamela Hope Fischer, of Mineral, VA; one special sister, Sonja G. Walls, of Loganville, GA; two brothers, Barney Walls (Mary Jo), of Beckley, and Reg Walls (Brenda), of Sophia; four wonderful grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart, Ashton Hope Walls (Jon), of Wharncliffe, Mackenzie Leigh Fischer, of Richmond, VA, Troy Joseph Fischer, of Mineral, VA, and Briley Hope Blankenship, of Louisville, Tenn.; one precious great-grandchild, Jenson Wade Walls, of Wharncliffe; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, dear neighbors and friends.

Thelma Shirley Blankenship went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on June 11, 2020 at Bluefield Regional Hospital. She was born in Bishop, Virginia on August 11, 1940.

Shirley was a resident of Caretta, West Virginia most of her adult life. Shirley loved her large circle of family and friends. She loved studying the Bible and praying for everyone. She could often be heard to say, “It will be alright as soon as I touch Calvary.” Shirley was retired from the McDowell County Board of Education where she was a Bus Driver for 31 years. She was a long-time member of the Jesus Church of Bartley. One of her favorite things to do was canning vegetables and sharing them with everyone.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lona Grubb. Her brother, William“Billy” Silvers, her sister Elva Gay Marcus, and her precious dachshund, Grace.

In addition to her many friends, left to also lovingly cherish her memory are her children: daughters, Lona (Michael) Snow of Welch, West Virginia and Anita (Bill) Barrett of Austinville, Virginia; son, Mark Blankenship of Asheville, North Carolina; sister, Ann(Hubert) Patterson of Caretta, West Virginia; brother, Donald Quesenberry of Charlottesville, Virginia.
