https://www.ghherrmann.com/obituaries/Matthew-Stephen-Blankenship?obId=18747772
Matthew Stephen Blankenship, December 7,
2000 - October 25, 2020
When Matthew was born, on December 7,
2000, his family was delighted to welcome a healthy, beautiful baby into the
world. When they cradled his tiny body, so full of hope and new life, they could
have never known that although his time on earth would be limited, Matthew was
limitless.
To say Matthew was a fearless child is
nothing short of an understatement. He was riding a four-wheeler before he
could walk. He was not the kind of boy who would be content playing inside or
watching TV. Matthew was the kind of boy who was racing remote control cars and
riding dirt bikes in the back yard, driving the golf cart... into ditches,
sneaking his mom’s shop truck... and getting it stuck in a swamp, racing rented
mopeds with his buddies in Florida... and nearly destroying them in the
process. When most people would cringe, Matthew would face any challenge he
met, head on.
Matthew attended Mooresville Christian
Academy through eighth grade and graduated from Center Grove High School. He
was a well-liked guy who was outgoing, full of energy and could make anyone
laugh. Matthew didn’t care what anyone thought about him. He unabashedly did
things his way and had a smile on his face the entire time. Who else could
sport a mullet so confidently?
There are so many words to describe
Matthew Blankenship and passionate is at the top of the list. Matthew was
passionate about racing four-wheelers and dirt bikes, which he did for 10
years. In 2018, he won the GNCC National College A Championship and had
numerous podium finishes throughout his prestigious career. Matthew was an avid
athlete who played football, tennis, hockey, soccer, and outdoor sports,
including hunting and fishing. And boy could he dance!
Matthew was passionate about his friends
and his family. He loved children and they looked up to him. He never met an
animal he didn’t want to adopt, including his beloved dog Roxie, his cat Mota
and several snakes and reptiles. He was a deeply caring and compassionate
person who people and animals alike would gravitate to.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers,
George Kopetsky (2010), Vernon Blankenship (2000) and his adored aunt, Laura
Kopetsky (2019).
Matthew Blankenship left more than all of
this behind. He left a lasting impact on each and every person who knew him,
and to know him was to love him. Matthew will be deeply missed and will always
remain in the hearts of his mom, Linda Kopetsky, his dad,
Steve Blankenship
(Lisa), his brother, Austin Gore, his sister, Ashleigh Gore; his cousin, Amie
Martens; his grandmothers, Patricia Ann (Ziegler) Kopetsky; and Loann Blankenship. He was a
beloved nephew to Kathy Howard, George Kopetsky II (Teri), David Kopetsky
(Julie), Steve Kopetsky (Lisa), Mark Blankenship (Kim), Beth Blankenship (Peter Rappaport), and many very dear cousins and friends.
His life will be celebrated on Sunday,
November 1, at 12:00 pm (noon) at the G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home
officiated by the Reverend Charlo Burrell. Matthew will be laid to rest at
Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
