+2021, Cumming, Forsyth Co., GA, Obituary

https://obituaries.valdostadailytimes.com/obituary/ann-barber-1081931230

Ann Blankenship Barber, 87, passed away peacefully in Cumming, GA on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. She was born February 11, 1934 and raised in Valdosta, GA, daughter of the late Robert Blankenship and Nellie Burke Blankenship.

Ann was the head majorette in her high school marching band. She twirled fire which is so very much like her personality. She earned a scholarship to Valdosta State College for her achievements as a majorette. She chose instead to support her husband, Ralph, and begin a family. She worked briefly for Allstate in Austell, GA and in medical records at Cobb General Hospital. The beach was her favorite place to be and she spent 17 years living in Panama City Beach, FL before returning to Georgia. Ann had a personality that was full of life and very contagious. She rarely met a stranger and never backed away from a challenge. Her perseverance was admirable. If there was an obstacle in front of her, she could figure out a way to overcome it. She loved all animals, children, people, yardwork and flowers. She could make anything grow. She could fix anything and do anything. Her favorite saying was "Can't Never Could Do Nothing!" I remember feeling, as a child, that there was nothing she couldn't do. She built things, sewed things and was always involved in all our activities - coaching, encouraging and supporting. Although Ann was a strong woman on the surface, once past her strong exterior, God brought forth some of the sweetest, most sincere moments with her. Her life will be carried on through the life of her family for generations to come.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Louise, and brothers, Johnny and James, and grandchildren, Greg Melton, Jr. and Samuel Elliott Black.

Survivors include her children, Paula Alford (Guy), Katherine Urquhart (Dennis), Brenda Elmore (Carey), Leigh Black (Shane), and Ralph Barber, Jr. (Patti); her grandchildren, Dodi, John, Curtis, Kristin, Brian, Ashley, Samantha, Trey, Grace Anne, Lindsey, Emma Kate, Margaret, Anna Claire, and Joshua, along with 10 adorable great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, Rome, GA, with the Rev. Warren Lathem officiating.

https://www.lairdfh.net/obituary/Laura-Blankenship

Mrs. Laura Blankenship, 94, passed away on Sunday March 21, 2021 in Nacogdoches. She was born on January 10, 1927 in Chireno, Texas. to Guy Layton, Sr. and Alma Palmer Layton.  She was the fifth of twelve children.

Laura became a Christian at the age of 18.  On November 6, 1943, she married J. D. Blankenship. She attended Nacogdoches Business College and upon completion she began working as the secretary for the Nacogdoches City Manager where she remained until her retirement after serving for 32 years.  Laura loved The Lord and was a dedicated and long-time member of Stallings Drive Church of Christ.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  If there was a baby in the house, you would hear the creak of the rocking chair as she did what she loved the best…rocking that “bitsy baby”.  Laura was kind, loving and dedicated to her family.  She taught many lessons during her 94 years, including how to love each other and be respectful.  Her life was filled with family and friends but most importantly it was filled with unfaltering love.  If you were her family, she loved you without boundaries.  She always took the time to listen to stories and even added a few of her own memories and experiences along the way.  Her family was more important to her than anything, taking a second only to the love she had for her Savior.  She will forever be remembered as the rock of the family and the one who loved them, even when the leaves were falling from the trees.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Blankenship; her parents; a son, Jim D. Blankenship; grandson, Kyle Blankenship; great-grandson, Mason Shelton; four sisters, Alma Stewart, Lillian Ivy, Laverne Sanders and Dorothy Hardy; and two brothers, Elvin Lamar "Son" Layton and Guy Vernon "G.V." Layton, Jr.

Laura is survived by her son, Don Blankenship and wife, Gail of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Casey Blankenship, Jon Blankenship, Jess Blankenship, Jamie Shelton and husband, Atticus and Janet Perkins and husband, Clayton; great grandchildren, Macy Smith and husband, Cory; Caleb Blankenship and wife, Amanda, Call Blankenship, Jake Blankenship, Josh Blankenship, Morgan Blankenship, Collin Shelton, Seely Shelton, Jeremy Shelton, Jason Briley, Kalli Perkins, Mason Reeves and Olivia Blankenship; and 3 great-great grandchildren, Layla Blankenship, Laura Blankenship and Oaklee Briley.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with Jay Taylor officiating.
