Christine Rae
"Chris" Blankenship, 64, passed away on Aug. 9, 2021,
in Hilo, Hawaii. Born Nov 17, 1956 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter
of Shirley and William Gerald "Jerry"
Blankenship (deceased), of Anchorage, Alaska, and
was the oldest of five siblings.
She was a
loving partner and scores counted her as a friend. She was a mother,
grandmother and aunt to Christian, Dan, Cedar, Harry, Riley, Cooper, Rebecca
and Jennifer. She also loved and befriended an untold number of animals. At
three weeks old, her first of many adventures brought her to Alaska aboard a
C-130 cargo plane with her parents. Early in life, she rode out the 1964
earthquake, attended Anchorage Public Schools and began her lifelong love of
fishing for the mighty sockeye.
Immensely
creative, she was active in local musical and theatrical performances. Over the
years, her talents were on display through her work as a designer, carpenter
and contractor. She made her mark on the Alaska art scene as a gifted mosaic
artist, and later, as one of the owners of her family business, Half Moon Creek
Gallery. Throughout her life, Chris was a supportive and encouraging teacher,
leading women to discover their own creativity or to swing a hammer for the
first time. She was dedicated to a life of sobriety and helped many others along
their own sober journeys. She was a longtime feminist and proud member of the
LGBT community.
One of Chris's
favorite sayings was, "Family First." Her family tent was vast and
not defined by biology alone. It included lifelong, childhood friends and those
met near the end of her life. It could best be described as chosen and
intentional. "How do you all know each other?" was a frequent
question, met with a knowing smile and the reply, "Buckle up!"

https://www.leefuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Grace-Sullivan-3/#!/Obituary
Grace
Blankenship Sullivan, age 92, passed away peacefully
on August 30, 2021 with her family by her side. Grace was born on January 3,
1929 in Washington, DC, one of four children, to Mary
Hopwood Blankenship and Richard E. Blankenship.
Her growing up
years was spent attending Catholic Schools in DC. As a child Grace would spend
her summers in Newport, Rhode Island. During that era, it was not unheard of
for young ones to halt their education for work to support the needs of their
family during their teenage years. Grace went to work around age 15. She worked
in the People’s Drug store as a soda fountain clerk, and then advertising. It
was on a triple blind date when Grace met George. Their courtship was brief and
they married in November, 1946.
The couple
lived in the DC for a few years before moving to Ardmore. Together they raised
their family of 5 and life was good. Just shy of their 21st anniversary, George
died after a long illness. Grace was a dedicated mother first and foremost. Her
children came first and she treasured every moment with them. Grace loved to
dance and taught George how to dance after putting 5 children to bed and
closing the shades.
In 1956 Grace
& George moved to Cheverly where over the years they fostered many young
children, including Wayne DeParto for 9 years.
Grace was an
active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and also on their bowling team.
In 1963, Grace
and George cofounded Ardwick Carry Out in Landover, MD. She had a vivacious
personality and made friends everywhere she went, and her customers at the
carry out loved her as well. Upon George’s death in 1967, Grace continued to
build the business and expanded by erecting a new building in 1969.
Grace was
blessed with an angel who became her friend and companion, when she met Earl
Harbin. She welcomed him into the lives of her children. Grace & Earl loved
to travel, driving across the country or attending many super bowl games. Grace
was an active member of the Restaurant Association and the carry out that she
loved, is still in the family.
Grace retired
in 1979 and she and Earl would live in Florida during the colder months, and
return for about 4 months when the weather in Maryland would warm up. Earl
passed in 2011. Her daughter Margaret stepped into his place and became her
health care companion. While in Florida Grace worked for the local Hospice, at
the local hospital in admitting, St. Francis of Assisi’s food bank in Florida,
Meals on Wheels, and here locally Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.
Volunteering in her community suited her servant heart. She will be sorely
missed. While in Maryland Grace would open her house Tuesday nights for
spaghetti dinner, all were welcome and many memories were created.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, brother William, and sisters, Mary Helen Armstrong and Catherine Milbrandt.
Beloved wife of
the late George W. Sullivan; Devoted mother of Margaret Lavin of Deale, MD,
Paul Sullivan (Jean) of Parkville, MD, George Sullivan (Sandy) of Brooms
Island, MD, Edward Sullivan of Seattle Washington and Patrick Sullivan (Robin)
of Upper Marlboro, MD. Also survived by 13 grand-children and 19 great
grand-children.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Friday, October 1, 2021, at

Burton Dale
Blankenship, 89, son of A. B. (Jim) and Grace (Wilson) Blankenship, went
to his heavenly home after a lengthy illness, August 22, 2021. He was born
March 12, 1932 in Solo, Missouri.
In 1952, two
years after graduating from Houston High School in 1950, Dale enlisted in the
United States Army. During his Army service, Dale served his country at Camp
Pickett, Virginia; Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and at Fort Richardson,
Anchorage, Alaska. During that time he rose to the rank of Corporal and was
awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Dale was honorably discharged in 1955.
After his Army
service and following some interesting jobs, Dale found his true passion for
engineering when he went to work for Jane & Ken Meyer at Meyer
Communications. Dale worked with Ken to set up and maintain radio and
television stations in a number of states, as well as starting in Springfield
with KMTC-Channel 27, then the ABC affiliate. From stories he told his family
and friends, there were many unique experiences keeping the stations running
and Dale met many interesting people during those years. One of the most
unusual occurrences was when the broadcast tower at Fordland fell to the ground
and they had to quickly find a way to get the KTXR back on the air.
Fortunately, Dale had a good team and they accomplished the task. In 2018, Dale
celebrated 50 years of service with Ken Meyer and the Meyer Communications
family. He retired as Chief Engineer for the company in 2020.
Dale began his
Christian life at a young age following his baptism at New Hope Baptist Church
in Solo, Missouri. In later years Dale was an active member at Fremont Hills
Baptist Church in Ozark, Missouri as long as his health permitted.
Preceding Dale
in death was his wife, Judi Wadkins Blankenship, his parents, and brother, Richard Thomas (Dickie) Blankenship, his grandparents and many other relatives.
Dale is
survived by a son, Jackie Dale Blankenship, Springfield, Missouri; granddaughter Alisa Blankenship, Springfield, Missouri; sisters, Ellen Henderson, Springfield; Sandra (Ron) Craven, Houston, Missouri; Nancy (Nick) Heavrin, Mountain View, Missouri and several cousins, nieces,
nephews and many friends.

Henrico Co., VA, Obituary
https://www.henricocitizen.com/articles/obituary-stella-stone-blankenship/
Born on July
15, 2021, the brightest little light in our universe, Stella Stone Blankenship, is back amongst the stars after
an impactful 25 days on this earth. Before Stella left us, she spent her time
inspiring a force of love and kindness that brought people together, in spirit,
all over the world. She lived her entire life in the NICU of Henrico Doctors
Hospital, battling a rare genetic mutation that caused neuromuscular and
respiratory challenges. Here, she was compassionately cared for by some of the
most lovely people our family has ever met. They showed us that Stella’s life
had purpose by constantly reminding us of the impact she was making on all who
came into contact with her. This same sentiment was echoed over and over by so
many of our friends, family and complete strangers who showered us with their
kind words and prayers. Although Stella was unable to communicate through voice
or movement, she made her contributions by spreading her light, and her
lessons, through her spirit. Maybe this is why her impact spread so far and
wide, as she, in her tiny body, had the power to touch so many with her
connection through the universe.
Stella’s days
were spent being loved on by her devoted parents, Erika and Travis Blankenship, who took
every opportunity to care for her, hope for her, and simply be with her. Stella
“told” them she knew who they were by squeezing their fingers extra tight, and
staring right back into their eyes as they spoke messages of love, hope, and
acceptance. Stella’s powerful force of love opened up parts of Erika and Travis
they never knew existed. She taught them unimaginable love.
Stella was a
true warrior. She amazed her medical team and family with her will to fight and
the strides she made. However, on August 8, 2021, Stella let us know that it
was time for her to go to a more peaceful place, free of pain. Sweet Stella
left us while snuggled in the loving arms of her parents and surrounded by all
the other people who love her the most: Paternal grandparents, Ron and Denise Blankenship (Southwest,
Va.); Maternal grandparents, Doug and Kelly Powell (Richmond Va.); Aunts,
Amanda Richardson (Jason)(Southwest Va.) and Liz Powell (Richmond, Va.); and
Uncle, Chris Powell (Richmond, Va.). Stella is also survived by her great-grandparents, Nancy Trohaugh (Waynesboro, Va.), and Jack and
Wilma Jean Blankenship (Southwest, Va.) and a large,
loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Stella’s first cousin, Ava, was
especially looking forward to meeting her and welcoming her into the family.
Stella was
named after nature and we are all comforted by the fact that she is flowing
freely back amongst the stars, without pain. We offer a huge, heartfelt thanks
to all our friends and family, and the NICU team who generously shared their
love and support to help us navigate this difficult journey. We will be having
an intimate family celebration of Stella’s life and know the rest of you will
be there with us in spirit. If you want to help Stella continue to make an
impact, memorial donations may be made in her name to the March of Dimes NICU
Family Support Program, or the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD).
