Lompoc, Santa
Barbara Co., CA, Obituary
https://www.starbucklind.com/obituary/kyleen-blankenship
Kyleen “Judy” Blankenship, the eldest of three children, was born on September 10, 1940, to Martha
and Kyle Oaks in San Diego, California. She passed away on August 24, 2021, from
complications of pneumonia.
Judy was raised
in Lemon Grove, California, and graduated from Helix High school in 1958. Upon
graduation, she began her journey pursuing her lifelong passion when she was
accepted to the Mercy College of Nursing. Mercy Hospital, the oldest hospital
in San Diego, was founded by the Catholic Sisters of Mercy in 1890. Judy told
many stories about how strict the sisters were but that they were excellent
teachers and mentors. They instilled in her ethical values and compassion when
caring for patients that she carried with her throughout her career. Judy
graduated with a 3-year diploma degree in nursing as an RN. During her nursing
training, Dr. WB Jamison, an OB-GYN Physician who has been practicing in Lompoc
for decades, was the “chief resident “in OB-GYN at Mercy during Judy’s nursing
training and they both landed in Lompoc years later.
After
graduating from nursing school, Judy married Norman Kolish in 1961. In 1962 they welcomed their first child, Julie, and later in
1964 their son Curtis. Judy, her siblings, and her children were all born at
Mercy Hospital. The family moved to El Paso Texas, then in 1967 moved to
Lompoc, California, where Judy started her nursing career at Lompoc District
Hospital. She started as a medical-surgical floor nurse and soon, with her
compassion, excellent nursing skills, and leadership abilities became the
department’s charge nurse. Judy and Norman separated in 1973.
Judy later met
her soulmate and the love of her life, Marvin “Marv”
Blankenship, whom she married on February 8, 1975.
Marv’s children, Frank, and Sherry became a wonderful part of Judy’s family
that she truly loved and cherished. The family enjoyed many great, fun, and
memorable times together. Judy loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and
was famous for the many generous gifts she gave to everyone.
In the early
1980s, the Director of Nurses and Judy’s dear friend, Mrs. Martha Hicks,
recognized Judy’s skills and leadership qualities and transferred Judy to the
position of charge nurse of the ER. Judy was reluctant with her new position,
but later found the move to be her true calling as an emergency room nurse and
leader.
Judy was a
teacher, friend, and mom to everyone she worked with and always let them know
how important and appreciated they were. She loved to share her knowledge and
compassion of nursing. Judy taught Advanced Cardiac life support and Basic Life
support to nurses, Respiratory Therapists, and doctors alike. She was a great
mentor to all the new graduating nurses and took them under her wing, giving
them support and confidence. She became the ER Director at the original old
Lompoc hospital and helped with planning and moving to the new hospital that
opened on June 29th, 2010.
Judy won awards
from BETA healthcare Group for outstanding and safe care in the ER department.
She received many accolades and awards for her support of the Crisis and Rape
Center in Lompoc and for her support of the Santa Barbara County Emergency
Medical Services.
Judy retired as
the ER director in 2010. She missed working at the hospital so much that she
returned to work as the day nursing house supervisor until retiring in 2013.
Judy had many friends at the hospital that she truly loved and thought of as
family.
Judy is
preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marv
Blankenship, her parents, Martha and Kyle Oaks,
brother William Oaks, Grandson, Robert Kolish, and daughter-in-law
Susan Blankenship.
She is survived
by her loving children, Frank Blankenship, Sherry Cota (Raymond), Julie Victor (Shaun), and Curtis Kolish, and grandchildren: Christopher and Jeffery
Blankenship (Jessica), Raymond Cota Jr. (Dawn),
Frankie Cota (Nicole) Casey-Ann Hogue (Billy) and Kyle, Kelsey, and Corey Kolish. Great-grandchildren, Emma Cota, Jayden,
Hayden, Cole and Brent Cota, Alicia Hogue and Rhodes
Blankenship who was just born this September 11,
just one day after Judy’s birthday, sister Patricia Gano
and nephew’s Ken and Tim Winget, her beloved niece
Gail Aldridge and family, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her best and
oldest friend she worked with from 1967, who she adored, Jo Foster and her two

Harrison,
Hamilton Co., TN, Obituary
https://www.chattanoogan.com/2021/9/16/434922/Ward-Carol-Sue-Blankenship.aspx
Carol Sue
Blankenship Ward passed away peacefully at her home in
Harrison, Tennessee, on September 15, 2021, in the presence of her family,
following an aggressive cancer treatment during the past two and a half years.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1954, to Wilbur Lorn Blankenship and Nadine Leonard Blankenship in Neosho,
Missouri.
Growing up, she
enjoyed day picnics and overnight camping trips with her parents and friends,
as well as weeklong visits to her grandparents’ farms with her cousins. She
wanted to be an astronaut from a very young age, inspired by the testing of the
Saturn V engines just a mile from her home. She graduated fourth in her class
of 210 students at Neosho High School in 1973, where her classmates voted her Most Likely to Succeed.
Her interest in
math and curiosity about how buildings were constructed steered her towards
civil engineering, a field that at the time was extremely rare for women to
pursue. She took courses at Crowder College and then attended the University of
Missouri Columbia, where she earned her BS CE degree in 1977. Upon graduation,
she accepted a job at the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, primarily
working on nuclear power plant design. She would later obtain her Professional
Engineer license.
Carol and her
husband Chuck, who also joined TVA around the same time, met while visiting the
same church and were married there in 1980. They had two sons, and she chose to
be a stay-at-home mom until they were both in school. In 1988, the family moved
to Chattanooga. Carol then pursued volunteer activities that she could perform
out of her home. In particular, she took up architectural drafting and produced
CAD drawings of the Erlanger Hospital complex, documenting their existing
layout and incorporating remodeling plans. She went on to obtain a part-time
position with a local architect, designing hotels and public buildings.
Carol was a
lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. After moving to Chattanooga,
she joined St. John UMC and was a major contributor to many ministries:
Welcoming, Missions, Family Ministries, Stewardship, Finance, Worship (Choir
and Prayer Team), the Trustees, and the Parsonage Committee. She coordinated
Habitat for Humanity service days and delivered food for F.I.S.H. Hospitality
Pantries. She and Chuck represented St. John at the United Methodist Holston
Annual Conference for several years. She co-founded the Young At Heart group
and organized many gatherings and trips. She made many friendships through the
UMW and the Close Knit Friends knitting/crocheting group.
Outside of the
church, Carol also sought other ways to serve her community. At her children’s
schools, she was involved in the PTA, band boosters, and chaperoning overnight
trips. Since retirement, she helped the underserved obtain medical care through
the Volunteers in Medicine program.
Carol
thoroughly enjoyed hiking, biking, and camping, especially in the nearby Great
Smoky Mountains. She was fascinated by pioneer life and learned about it
through books and films. She spent free time knitting, crocheting, and smocking
and—taking after her mother—would produce homemade clothes and curtains. She
especially liked the challenge of figuring out and creating patterns.
Carol is
survived by her husband Charles “Chuck” Ward of 41 years; her sons, David Ward
of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Jason Ward of Harrison, TN; her sister, Janice Blankenship James (Terry) of Conway, Arkansas; and
six nieces and seven nephews.
A celebration
of Carol’s life will be on Wednesday at 2 pm, on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at St. John
United Methodist Church. Burial will take place afterwards at Hamilton Memorial
Gardens. Chattanooga Funeral Home

Obituary
https://www.fanningfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Jonathan--Lee-Blankenship?obId=22324716
Early on
September 6, 2021, Jonathan Lee Blankenship, of Kenova, WV, formerly of Raysal, WV, passed
away peacefully in his sleep.
Jonathan was
always smiling and happy and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a joy
to be around and in his 28 [b.24Mar1993] short years with us, his
outgoing and lively personality made a lasting impression in the lives of those
he met along the way. But grief is hard, especially when saying goodbye to
someone so young who added so much noise, laughter and fun to our lives. For
now, our houses and our hearts are strangely quiet. There are no calls with
news from his day or funny texts he would send to lighten our moods. He was at
once a handful and a delight, but he was always with us, supporting and loving
his family and many friends. In our sorrow we pull together as the family he
built, each hurting for our loss but hopeful for the day when we will see his
smiling face once again, that smiling, happy and loving young man who gave us
so much and left us way too soon.
He was preceded
in death by his father John William Blankenship, his aunt Amy Morgan, his paternal grandfather Johnny Blankenship, and great grandfather Bill
Mullins, also, by his special maternal grandparents Wilson and Phyllis
Cantrell.
So many remain to cherish his memory. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Sammi Leigh Greenwale, his two brothers, Tyler Blankenship and Gabriel Greenwale,
maternal grandparents Vincent and Sally Cantrell, who treated Jonathan as a
son, and maternal grandmother Lovina Coffin. He will
also be missed by his aunts and uncles Jennifer and Rich Spangler with whom he
shared a special bond and Paul and Melissa Cantrell. His cousins include Gatlin
Spangler who was in many ways as close as a brother, Kevin Cantrell and Mikayla
Napier. Also left to cherish Jonathan’s memory include his girlfriend, Kalen
Stapleton and AJ Johnson whom Jonathan referred to as his brother as well as
Devon Lamar Johnson II who Jonathan lovingly referred to as his nephew, his cousins,
Jordan Blankenship, Wynter,
Brandon, and Brooklyn Morgan. Jonathan also leaves behind a host of other
family members and friends that share in our grief. His life, though short,
touched many lives.
A Celebration
of Life Service will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Saturday, September 18,
2021 with Reverend Paul Cantrell officiating at The Fanning Funeral Home Chapel
in Iaeger.
