https://www.palmerfuneralhomes.com/obituary/Helen-Blankenship

Helen Eileen Blankenship, 95, of Mishawaka, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 27, 1926 in Wabash, IN to the late Edgar Hunt and Gladys (Razer) Hunt Powell.

On June 23, 1945 in Wabash, Helen married Dr. Houston B. Blankenship, who preceded her in death on September 8, 1990.

Helen’s priority in life was always her family.  She and Houston raised their children in Monticello, IN where Dr. Blankenship practiced as a chiropractor.  Upon his retirement and the arrival of their grandchildren, Helen and Houston moved to Lafayette, IN, Ft. Wayne, IN and lastly, Granger, IN, which was a testament to their dedication to being near family.  Houston and Helen were almost always seen together and loved ballroom dancing, both at the country club and at parties hosted in their home.

Helen moved to The Forest in Mishawaka nearly 25 years ago, where she enjoyed being a board member of The Forest Condominium Association, serving as president for many years. Helen maintained an active social life and was an avid and competitive bridge player, belonging to several clubs.

Helen was a strong and determined woman with a quick wit whose unwavering faith in Jesus Christ helped her to endure years of chronic pain.  Helen fully accepted God’s will for her life. In her final days she talked about her lifetime of prayers with Jesus.  She enjoyed her daily devotionals, listening to old hymns and reading the Bible, which she had read nearly seven times. She loved her family more than anything. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life.  She shared countless times how blessed she felt for her life, and about the peace she had found knowing she would soon meet Jesus and be reunited with loved ones. We rejoice in knowing she is no longer in pain and that she is with her Lord and Savior.

Helen loved and cared for her dear pets.  Most recently, her Maltese, Paulyanna, was a constant companion for the last thirteen years until she passed away in December.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Hunt and Gladys (Razer) Hunt Powell; her husband, Houston Blankenship; and her sister, Ann Halderman.

Helen is survived by her son, Dr. Steven Blankenship (Dr. Victoria Sisco) of Grand Junction, MI, her daughter, Susan (Bruce) Bennett of Granger, IN; three grandchildren, Sara (David) Brodzinski of Granger, IN, Dr. Rebecca (Andrew) Katovsich of Cassopolis, MI, and Joshua (Victoria) Bennett of Granger, IN; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Brodzinski, Fiona Brodzinski and Elliot Bennett; and nieces, Lori Halderman VerMaas of Wabash, IN, and Roxanne Halderman Meeks of Owens Cross Roads, AL.

Private services for the family will be held. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion, IN.

+2022, Petersburg, Monroe Co., MI, Obituary

https://www.monroenews.com/obituaries/ppet0138179

Sharon Blankenship, age 84 [1938], of Petersburg, MI passed away peacefully January 18, 2022 of natural causes.

The world lost a one-of-a-kind lady. In her long, but still too short life, Sharon touched many hearts. She met the love of her life, Gary, in first grade. He caught her eye while in class together and sealed the deal by putting bubble gum in her long, braided hair. They reconnected when in high school and were together for 64 years, sharing many of life’s ups and a few downs.

Sharon was a lifelong educator, beginning her career as an elementary school teacher in the Kalamazoo, area, then relocating to Bedford Public Schools where she taught several elementary grades, became a reading specialist and earned a Master’s degree in school psychology. She finished her career as a school psychologist at Washington Local (Ohio) Schools from which she retired.

After retiring, Sharon wrote children’s stories, volunteered as a CASA, and promoted rescuing her favorite breed of dog, Weimaraners. Working with local rescue groups, she fostered and found forever homes for dozens of them. Her love for dogs led her to volunteer at Humane Ohio where she most enjoyed comforting pets as they awoke from anesthesia. Sharon enjoyed attending Silver Sneakers classes at the YMCA with her friends, The Goddesses. She was an avid reader and would lovingly share her books with anyone who didn’t mind the occasional coffee stain or cookie crumb.

Sharon had a big heart, a big sense of humor, and an even bigger love of coffee. She would most likely spill some on you if you were near her when she had coffee in hand. Her favorite place to meet friends was Starbucks, where she would order a “tall blonde,” causing nearby heads to turn. Surely local coffee shops will miss her almost as much as her family.

Sharon was a gifted baker, specializing in apple and pumpkin pies. That being the extent of her cooking skills, she believed in overcooking most food until it was charred beyond recognition. She was notorious for serving her family UFOs = unidentified frying objects. It quickly motivated her children to learn to cook for themselves. If anyone would like a copy of her recipes, we would suggest you rethink that request.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant sister.

Sharon Blankenship is survived by her husband, Gary, sons Dan and Dennis, daughter Daneen, grandchildren, Shannon, Jeffrey, Britney, Nik, Quill, Ian and great-grandson, Arthur.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.

+2022, Muskogee, Muskogee Co., OK, Obituary

https://www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com/obituaries/Jr-Blankenship/#!/Obituary

Lavaughn Blankenship, Jr., 70, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He was born on April 2, 1951 to James Lavaughn Blankenship and Ruby (Tidwell) Blankenship in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Junior was a high school graduate. He married the love of his life, Paula Russell, on August 31, 1970. They shared over 51 years of life, marriage, family and many memories together.

Junior enjoyed being outdoors and working with his land. You could usually find him tinkering with his lawn mowers and tending to his garden or his fruit trees. He loved to fish and his grand-babies, but not as much as he loved his Jesus. Junior never missed a Sunday at church and was always ready to worship his Jesus. He also loved sharing God’s word with anyone and everyone.

The rest of his days were filled with football and NASCAR. His favorite place to go was Burger King for breakfast and it was an everyday routine. Everyone there knew him by name and already had his order entered when he walked in the door.

If you knew Junior, you knew he was a cut-up and knew he always had something sassy to say. He was as stubborn as stubborn comes and he loved harassing his kids any chance he got. He never said anything without a smile on his face. His smile and his laugh could light up any room and will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Blankenship; and granddaughter, Kamryn Wallis.

Junior is survived by his loving wife, Paula Blankenship; daughters, Stephanie Palmer and husband Nathan, Karissa Wallis and husband Kevin, and Katie Sellars; son James Blankenship; grandchildren, Matthew Palmer, Adam Palmer, James Blankenship, Jr., Christopher Blankenship, Nicholas Blankenship, Garrett Blankenship, Braylie Sellars, Kendyl Blankenship and Kylee Wallis; great-grandchildren, Daxton Burch, Laikyn Palmer, Elaina Cole and Anna Blankenship; sister, Nan Ashwood; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A celebration of Junior’s life will be 2 pm, Monday, January 31, 2022, at Oldham Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Glen Little officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
