Stephen Michael Blankenship, age 64 [December 1, 1957], of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Baptist South Medical Center. Steve was born and reared in West (by God) Virginia.

An avid hunter, fisherman, craftsman, and most of all a man who tried to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5 & 6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”. Steve embraced time to worship and fellowship with like-minded believers while teaching Sunday school or driving the church bus when his children were young. As he grew older, he became an encourager to the youth at his church. He loved all children. No matter how bad he felt or someone else, his sense of humor brightened your day. His hugs and back rubs calmed the worst of days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lora Blankenship; and brothers, Ernest Ray “Jody” Blankenship, Jr., Larry Allen Blankenship, and Billy Joe Blankenship.

Loving survivors include his dear wife, Mary Blankenship; children, Jessica Nedeff (Ryan) of Ohio, Justin Blankenship (Alison) of Parkersburg, WV, Penny L. Strunk of Williamsburg, KY, and Ginny Herald Prince of London, KY; grandchildren, Konnor Blankenship, Titus Blankenship, Baby Blankenship, and Rockford Nedeff; Ethan Herald, Justin Herald, and Elijah Herald. Sisters, Peggy Dawson (Tom), Kimberly Blake (Ray), and Janet Myers (Keith); devoted cousin, Tony Eagle; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held in Parkersburg, WV on February 26, 2022 at Sunrise Baptist Church and another at his home in Luverne, Al on March 19, 2022. Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg, KY.

Susan Blankenship, age 69 [1953] passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022, with her husband and children by her side.

Susan was an avid reader, a wonderful source for book recommendations. She always had a love of sports, especially football, golf and hockey. Susan loved to watch grandson Fisher's hockey games on live streaming. During football season, she watched Red Zone, while texting play-by-plays or talking on the phone with her son, Justin and facetiming with granddaughter Harper. Susan loved her almost daily phone calls from her girls, Morgan, Blake, or Taylor who always had so much to talk about even though they may have just spoken the day before. At some point in every call with Blake, Susan would ask about what Zoey, the only grandchild who ever rode a sheep, "mutton busting" in a rodeo, was up to these days. Susan will be remembered as an amazing woman, wonderful friend, a loving mom, grandma, and wife.

Susan is survived by her husband, Ralph Blankenship; daughters Morgan (Todd Mitchell), Blake (Chris Adkins) and Taylor; son Justin (Celeste Blankenship); three grandchildren Zoey Adkins, Fisher Mitchell and Harper Blankenship; siblings Christopher Grant and Barbara Rounds (John Volcko).

https://www.burnsmortuaryhermiston.com/obituary/JamesJim-Blankenship

James Curtis Blankenship was born on June 1, 1957 at Emanuel Medical Center in Portland Oregon to Samuel and Betty (Marlnee) Blankenship. James was welcomed by older siblings Gordon and Ona.  Later he welcomed younger sister Kimberly. James was 64 years old when he left this world. He passed away at OHSU in Portland Oregon on February 10, 2022 of heart disease caused by COVID 19 contacted in July 2021.

James returned to work at Columbia Basin Extracting in Hermiston after COVID, but had to quit in December due to his declining health. James kept the seriousness of his ailments to himself, always replying, “Not too bad,” when asked how he was doing.

As a child, James lived in Oregon and Washington, except for his years in the Navy. He started school in Sunnyside WA, then following his father’s jobs, moved to Sweet Home OR, Albany OR, Foster OR, Stanfield OR and Echo OR. While in grade school, Samuel and Betty divorced and each remarried. James lived with his mother Betty, who married Lawrence Tucker. Larry brought step brother Greg. Betty and Larry moved to Snohomish WA, then Olympia WA then Eugene and Springfield OR, before settling in Grand Coulee WA. Samuel married Edith Brown and they moved to Orofino ID.  Edith brought step brother Nelson and step sister Connie.  Samuel retired and ended up in Hermiston OR.

James graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School in 1975. He spent a short time enjoying life in Grand Coulee before joining the Navy.  James spent four years as a boiler/refrigeration mechanic on a Fast Frigate. James got to visit the world as his ship journeyed around the seas. He especially loved Australia and often spoke of how the Australian ladies loved the US Sailors. When his tour was up, James began a series of jobs at various companies starting in Spokane, then he moved to Irrigon Oregon, where he bought his home and lived with his birds until he passed.

James bought his first BMW, a silver coup in Spokane and fell in love.  He loved to race and joined a BMW Club, whose owners who toured together.  He drove the little silver car to Texas to race. He bought his second BMW in Portland and it was his road car.

As a toddler, “Bimbo” by Jim Reeves was popular and the child described in the song sounded just like James, so he was given the nickname of “Bimbo.”  At night the local radio station would play, “Bimbo” and then announce, “Now go to sleep little Bimbo.”  To his older sister, he always remained “Baby Bimbo.”

While in school, James would read the encyclopedia, then argue with his teachers when they made a mistake while teaching. James would stand his ground and he was usually right. He continued to read and educate himself throughout his life and continued to argue if he felt strong enough about the subject. James was loving, generous and stubborn, a family trait he came by honestly. James was a man who valued family, friends and integrity.  He was patriotic, valued the constitution and believed in truth, justice and honesty.

James is preceded in death by mother Betty Tucker, father Samuel Blankenship, sister Kimberly Marlnee, step father Lawrence Tucker, step mother Edith Blankenship, nephew Jason Blankenship, grandmother Stella Wright and many other loved ones.

James is survived by brother Gordon (Molly) Blankenship, sister Ona (Michael) Felker, step sister Connie Smith, uncle Rock Wright, nieces and nephews, Heather (Davie) Sprigg, Gina Quillan, Curtis (Monica) Blankenship, Brandon Smith, Alaina Smith, Icey Straley, Tiffany Swartout, several cousins, great nieces and nephews. As well as close friends, Jamey Gibbs and Cliff Hauger.

A military graveside service will be held at 1 pm, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at Echo Cemetery. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, Oregon.
