Mary Ann
Blankenship was born on March 3, 1930, to her
parents, Frank and Eva Sobaszek in Detroit, Michigan. She passed away on June 9, 2023, at age 93.
As a child Mary
and the Sobaszek family attended St. Hedwig Church in
southwest Detroit. They lived in many rental properties until she was a teen
when the family purchased their own home on McKinstry.
Upon graduation from St. Hedwig High School, she went to work at Hudson’s
downtown to help support the family after her father’s death. She was a
cashier/wrapper and had many fond memories of her work there. At about 22 years
of age, she went to work for McKesson Robbins, working in the shipping
department.
In March of
1955, she met the love of her life, Robert
Blankenship on a blind date, and they were married
in October of that same year in Holy Redeemer Church. Mary and Bob purchased a
home in 1956 in Dearborn Heights. Soon after starting their family in early
1957, Mary became a stay-at-home mom. She lived for her family, taking
exceptional care of them. Her favorite activities were any kind of work out of
doors. She loved keeping things tidy, edging, sweeping, watering plants,
hanging laundry outside on the clothesline and probably her all-time favorite,
cleaning windows on the house and cars! The Blankenship’s were members of St.
Albert the Great Parish in Dearborn Heights, where Mary was a member of the
Rosary Altar Society for over 25 years.
Mary and Bob
became grandparents for the first time in 1993 and had the privilege of caring
for their granddaughters in their infant and toddler years. The family enjoyed
taking vacations together with many trips “Up North,” which she thoroughly
enjoyed. Mary lived a prayerful life. She spent her day with her mind on what
needed to be done while always thinking and praying for her family. She would
frequently ask others to “Say a little prayer” which applied to anything,
healing for someone, getting a job, good weather, safe travels, etc., but most
of all for protection of her entire family. Mary held a simple abiding faith in
God and passed this on to her family; she will be tremendously missed.
Mary was
preceded in death by her late husband, Robert E.
Blankenship and her six siblings, Joseph, John,
Frank, Stanley, Edward and Sandy.
Beloved mother of Robert (Diane) Blankenship, Kathy Blankenship, Karen (late David)
George, and David (Brenda) Blankenship. Loving grandmother
of Alexa Blankenship and Dana (Ryan) St.
Coeur. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Jay Blankenship, age 42, of Jackson, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 7,
2023. He was born November 13, 1980, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Diane Powers Blankenship and the late Paul David Blankenship.
Jay spent his
early childhood in the city of Wellston where he attended Saints Peter and Paul
Catholic School, participated in youth sports, and met many of his lifelong
friends. In Wellston, Jay and his dad bonded over their love of football, and
Jay spent many hours alongside his dad as Paul coached the Wellston Golden
Rockets. During his high school years, Jay's passion for football continued,
making him a leader on the gridiron. One of Jay’s proudest accomplishments was
being a member of the 1996 undefeated Jackson varsity football team and earning
a coveted white jacket. Jay and his teammates had a special bond, and he loved
each and every one of them like a brother—he was a true Ironmen.
In adulthood,
Jay was lucky enough to find two additional passions: his children and hunting.
Jay loved spending time in the outdoors with his sons, Kingston and Holden, and
on their many adventures, the three of them built a deep bond. Whether it was
scouting a big buck or chasing a long beard, Jay and his boys were ready. When
they weren’t together in the woods, you could find Jay and his wife Mandee attending one of his sons’ many sporting events. He
loved watching his boys play sports, and he was incredibly proud of both of
them. Over time, Jay also developed a love of traveling to Disney World with Mandee and Kingston, and they enjoyed many wonderful trips
together over the years.
Jay was a
member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and had a deep love for the Lord. His
character was most evident in the way he treated people. Jay never met a
stranger, and you could always count on him for a good hunting or football
story. He had a big heart, always trying to be there for anyone who needed him.
Jay’s family meant the world to him, and he did everything he could to make them
happy. He was a kind, loving man, who will be deeply missed.
Jay was
preceded in death by his father, Paul Blankenship; his grandparents, Jay and Paulette Blankenship and
Harold and Dolores Powers; and his uncle, Bobby Powers.
Jay is survived
by his mother, Diane Powers Blankenship; his wife, Mandee Blankenship; his sons, Kingston Blakenship and Holden Blankenship; his sisters, Beth (Shawn)

Craft Mall in Lake Worth.
June grew up on
Refugio Street in Fort Worth's Northside. She met her husband, Bobby Joe Blankenship on her 16th birthday
at the Midget Cafe, in the stockyards, when he was delivering meat to the
restaurant. When introduced, he threw her over his lap and gave her 16
spankings. She jumped up, called him a few choice words and ran out the back
door. They were married the following year. Together they bought their first
home in Haltom City, on Voncille Street and lived
there for more than fifty-years. In 2006, she built her dream home on their
acreage in Dido, Texas, and made a wonderful place for family and grandkids to
call home. June lived for family and nothing was ever more important than being
around those she loved.
June got her
pilot's license in the late 50's and flew an Aeronca
Chief. She enjoyed working at the farm, mowing the pasture, 4 wheeling,
gardening, ceramics, road trips, antiquing with her sisters, vacationing with
family, but most of all she loved her sleepovers with grandkids and great-grandkids.
She was "The Best Nanny Ever"!
