Steve R. Blankenship, 62, of Bucyrus, died Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at his home following a decline in health. He was born on January 21, 1961 in Bucyrus to the late Aaron “Hiway” and Sandra Kaye (Powers) Blankenship.

Steve attended Bucyrus High School and then took a job in telecommunications, where he installed central office telephone equipment. Steve had a passion for fishing which led to him becoming a First Mate and working for his uncle Ed at Chelsea Charters. When you saw Steve, you were most likely greeted with his “peace sign” as his way of saying hello. He was a laid-back individual who often kept to himself; however, he did enjoy time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed picking on his nieces and nephew and tried to be the best he could for them. In his healthier years, he enjoyed hunting deer as well as small game and he also maintained a rather large garden. His biggest hobby was fishing and he loved rooting for his Cincinnati Bengals while enjoying a cold Busch beer. He had a big heart for animals and had gotten a cat for one of his nieces. That didn’t work out, so he took the cat back and following the loss of his mom, that four-legged feline provided him a great amount of comfort and companionship.

Steve was preceded in death by his dad and mom, Hiway and Sandra Blankenship; sister, Rhonda Sue Lahman; brother-in-law, Charles Rupert and his uncle, Ed Powers.

Steve is survived by sisters, Dianne (Tom) Alberty and Deborah Rupert; brother-in-law, Roger Lahman; aunt, Ellen Powers; nieces and nephew, Teena Alberty, Tom Alberty, Cassandra (Dominic) Wiparina, Kayce Hahn, Lauren Lahman and Lacey Lahman as well as great nieces and nephews.

Though no public services will be held for Steve, family and friends are encouraged to raise a glass and make a toast to the times had with him.

+2023, Denton, Denton Co., TX, Obituary

https://www.billdeberry.com/obituary/dr-wayne-blankenship

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of beloved Baptist Minister, Dr. Wayne Alton Blankenship, who passed away at the age of 86 in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 15, 2023, with his devoted and loving wife Sue Blankenship by his side.

From a young age, Dr. Blankenship felt called to serve God. He was not born into a religious family, yet he followed his heart and trusted the Lord to be his guide. He received his undergraduate degree from Harden-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas where he met Sue Rhodes, who would soon become the love of his life. Wayne and Sue married in 1960 and remained so for 63 more wonderful years. They became the proud parents of their son, Alan in 1965 and welcomed their daughter, Connie a few years later in 1968.

Dr. Blankenship went on to receive his Doctorate Degree in Theology at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1970. He served in various ministry roles in Baptist Churches throughout Texas and Louisiana. He ultimately settled with his wife and children in Denton, Texas where he served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church from 1984 to 1996. He then went on to serve at Southmont Baptist Church from 1999 until his retirement.

Dr. Blankenship’s devotion to his family and the people of his community are his legacy. He led so many souls to Christ and was admired and valued for his compassionate listening and wise spiritual counsel. He lived with integrity and by example as he dedicated his life to helping others inspired by the word of God. In his own profound words, “To be a Christian, you must have balance in your life. The rhythm of your life must give one full count to the head, one to the heart and one to the hand. Love God, with all your heart, mind and soul, serve and you will make music with your life.”

Dr. Blankenship did make music with his life. His song will be heard and celebrated by all those he touched for many years to come!

+2023, Richmond City, VA, Obituary

https://www.ealvinsmall.com/obituaries/norman-blankenship

Norman Ray Blankenship, 87, passed away of natural causes on October 23, 2023. Born January 19, 1936, in the small coal mining town of Davin, West Virginia, he was the 6th of 10 children born to James Cloyd Blankenship, and Corby Cleo Trent Blankenship.

He was a handsome, friendly youngster, a star speller, good in mathematics, whom everyone knew as “Pal”, rather than Norm. He aspired for a life beyond the Appalachian coal fields.  Upon completion of high school, he joined the Air Force as an enlisted young airman.  His family had not even owned a car, but suddenly he was on an airplane to Hawaii, his first posting. He was in the Air Force before he used a telephone for the first time. He recalled trying a strange food called “shrimp” for the first time in Hawaii.  It was a period of great excitement and growth. At the end of his enlisted service period, he became the first in his family to ever attend college, grasped the incredible opportunity provided by his GI Bill benefits, and graduated from West Virginia State University in Morgantown.

He met and married fellow West Virginian Florence Sibray Blankenship at WVU. Together they raised 3 children; Lori Kincaid (Reid), Paige Gartner (John), and Trent Caswell (Becky), living in a variety of postings around the world as an Air Force Officer, including favorites; the United Kingdom, Hawaii, and Virginia.

After a successful career as an Air Force officer for over 20 years, he worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Manpower Analyst for almost 15 years. He married Sadie Barber Smith, and together they raised a daughter, also named Sadie Smith (Dylan), in Yorktown, Virginia, and then Farmington, Maine. Ultimately, he settled in the Richmond, Virginia area, to be close to family.

He truly valued higher education, had earned his MA, and strongly encouraged his own children and grandchildren to seek advanced degrees.  His only other sibling to complete college, Sue Cobler, also credits his relentless encouragement with her successful career.

He ran a marathon. He loved all birds, and was especially fond of wild turkeys, many paintings of which decorated his home.  Norm still relished a good bowl of pinto beans and cornbread, which he recalled he ate 5-6 days a week growing up in rural West Virginia. He was an incredibly generous man and had a great sense of humor.  He loved to loudly sing bible hymns, and Elvis songs in the car, much to the chagrin of teenaged grandchildren riding along. He would dance in front of the television, blocking everyone’s view and eliciting laughter. He will be remembered for his good nature, his joking, upbeat outlook on life. Most of all, he loved his children.

He leaves behind 4 children and their spouses, his adoring sister, Sue, and sister-in-law, Becky, along with 12 grandchildren, ranging in age from 1 year to 30 years old, several of whom share his middle name Ray/Rae. He is missed tremendously.

A funeral service and interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Arlington National Cemetery's Post-Chapel, 1 Memorial Drive Arlington, Virginia 22211
