Lynda Joyce
Blankinship, July 15, 1940 - November 17, 2023
Lynda Joyce Fox
Blankinship was born in Thomasville, TN in 1940 and
transported to southeast Detroit in the back seat of a Model-T in 1942. She
shared the back seat with her paternal grandmother and a dishpan of skinned
possum. They were a departure gift to her grandmother from the cousins. Once
established in the wartime economy of Detroit the family purchased a house in
southwest Detroit and regularly made summer visits to Thomasville, TN.
Joyce, as she
is still known to the family, navigated the Detroit school system through high
school. Having recently found religion she went on to Moody Bible Institute in
Chicago, IL. At the end of two years, she told her mentors that the Lord had
revealed that she should return to Detroit and pursue a college degree in fine
arts. Arriving home her father made it clear that he didn't care what the Lord
had told her, she wasn't going to go to college on his dime to be an artist.
She needed an income producing career and a job. Joyce enrolled as a part-time
student at Henry Ford Community College and Wayne State University, planning to
be a teacher. She went to work full-time for Detroit Parks and Recreation as a
Play Leader.
Lynda Joyce met
her husband, Joseph Blankinship, while working at Parks and Recreation. They were married in 1963. Joe
and Lynda had four children (Scott, Regan, Bo
and Rachel) in four years. Lynda stayed home to
care for her children. In 1969 they moved to the City of Detroit's camp on
Euler Lake between Brighton and Howell. Besides raising her children Lynda bred
and showed champion Bull Mastiffs. During summers she tended the petting zoo
that was part of the camp experience for the children from Detroit.
When Rachel
started school, Lynda returned to Henry Ford Community College for the nursing
program. She went to work at McPherson Hospital in Howell, MI. She worked in
the Med-Surg unit, becoming the Head Nurse. Joe and
she retired to Ludington in 1986 where she continued her nursing career in home
health care.
In Ludington
she began to paint seriously. She apprenticed herself to two watercolor artists
and began developing her unique style. Her first solo exhibit of Civil War
portraits was at West Shore Community College. She joined the gallery, Art On the Town, now in Pentwater. The Red Door Gallery,
Maude's, and the AM Gallery in Ludington exhibited her works over the years.
Her work appeared in juried shows in Holland, Grand Haven, multiple times at
the Muskegon Museum of Art and in Manistee. The Ludington Area Center for the
Arts staged a retrospective exhibit of her work in 2018.
She is survived
by daughters, Regan and Rachel (Curt); six grandchildren, David, Devon,
Adam, Bethany, Andrea and Olivia; one great-granddaughter, Karaline;
and her partner, John.
Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington is
honored to assist the family during this difficult time,

Tyler, Smith Co., TX, Obituary

Haskell (“Hack”)
Lynn Blankenship, of Tyler, TX, ended his journey on
Earth on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in Denison, TX, at Texoma Medical Center. He
was born on February 1, 1946, to Arthur and
Ramona (Hogue) Blankenship in Courtney, OK. Dr.
Looney was the delivering doctor.
Haskell fought
a battle of courage since being diagnosed in December of 2021. He always had a
positive determined attitude throughout his passing from this earth into the
arms of his heavenly father.
Haskell
attended his first years of school in Fort Worth, TX, then
spent all but his senior year attending Ringling schools. He completed his
senior year and graduated from Turner High School in Burneyville,
OK in 1964. It was September of 1963 that Haskell said he met his soulmate and
the only love of his life, Barbara Nancy Lambert. They were united in marriage on April 21, 1964, in
Marietta, OK. Haskell and Barbara celebrated their reunification and renewed
their wedding vows on October 17, 2019. After their marriage in 1964, they
lived a short time in Marietta, and then lived in Taft, California, before
moving back to Courtney.
Haskell
enlisted in the United States Army on March 21, 1966. He was a Green Beret in
the 5th Special Forces Group serving his time in Vietnam. He received an
honorable discharge on March 20, 1969. Upon returning home, Haskell worked for
the Santa Fe Railroad for a very short time. He was not an indoors person, and
this is when he started his career with the oil field. He started from the
bottom and finished as a consultant/ petroleum engineer for Questar.
Haskell worked in South America, Indonesia, and many other places across the
world, finished
this work in the United States, and retired in 2010.
Haskell was of
the Baptist faith and enjoyed his daily devotional times with his wife Barbara
Nancy. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. He loved to cook
and enjoyed cooking alongside Barbara. He was a man of few words and believed
if he couldn’t say something nice about you, he wouldn’t say anything. Haskell
always said everyone chooses the road they travel, and once that road is
chosen, they need to travel it. He was a wonderful representation of God’s
love, a role model, an inspiration, and a hero to many. His wife, his doctors,
nurses, work associates, and neighbors attest to this fact.
Haskell was
preceded in death by his parents; his and Barbara’s angel baby; his closest and
favorite cousin, Larry Dennis Blankenship; and in-laws, Buford and Emma Lambert.
He is survived
by his wife of their home, Barbara Nancy
Blankenship; bonus son, Clinton Lanning and
grandson, Christian Lanning; son, Brendan
Blankenship and Celie Pyle; five grandchildren; a
sister, Marqueita Evans of Ringling, OK; a very
special cousin, Jacqueline Blankenship Grant of Courtney; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and other
family members.
Memorial
services, with military honors, were held at Lakeview Cemetery with Bro. Brett
Alberta officiating. Cremation services under the direction of Flanagan-Watts
Funeral Home, Marietta. Services were held on Friday, December 8, 2023.
Haskell
Blankenship: I decided early on that it was important to pre-plan for my own
and my wife Barbara Nancy’s funerals and final resting places. In so doing, I,
Haskell Blankenship, chose to pre-plan my final instructions with the
assistance of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home. I want to be laid to rest beside my
wife Barbara Nancy Blankenship at Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta. I may not be
able to change the past, but I can change the future and that starts in the
present moment. Barbara, I’ve always been in love with you and will hold your
love in my heart and soul throughout eternity. Until we meet again in Heaven.
Love you more. “I-you.”

Terry Lee
"Windshield" Blankenship, 64, of
Hurley, Virginia, passed away in the early hours of November 23, 2023, after a
prolonged hospital stay. Born on August 9, 1959, Terry was the fifth child of Edna and Leonard Blankenship.
A lifelong
resident of Buchanan County, Terry was a 1977 graduate of Hurley High School,
and attended the Nashville Auto Diesel College for, as he told it, a half-day
before returning home. He spent the next 16 years as a coal miner, skillfully
operating a continuous miner during much of that time. He took great pride in
his work, and not "breaking the equipment", so "coal could be ran." He married Athelene
McCoy in 1980, and had his only child, Travis, in 1987. Upon his
retirement from mining in 1994, he spent much of his time repairing cars and
doing odd jobs, watching westerns, NASCAR, and relaxing in the shade. He also
enjoyed riding horses and could be found at local horse shows from time to
time. He was a loyal friend, kind and caring, and had stories that could make a
15-minute grocery run turn into a two-hour trip.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, Edna and Leonard
Blankenship; brother, Auldia Blankenship; sisters, Wanda Jean Baker and Tammy
Blankenship; and nephew, Butch Scott.
He is survived
by his wife, Athelene Blankenship; sisters, Linda Powers, Patsy (Bert) Scott, and Judy (Bob)
Keen; his brother, Austin (Margaret) Blankenship; his son, Travis (Holly); granddaughter, Sadie Quinn; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral
service was held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Virginia
Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia, with Steve Lane officiating. In honor of
Terry's wishes, his body was cremated.
