Claude Blankenship, 80, of St. Augustine, Fla., Formerly of Chesapeake, OH died
Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999 at Shands Hospital in
Gainesville, FL. He was born October 2, 1918 in East Lynn, WV, the son of the
late Lindsey and Laura Adkins Blankenship.
He was a retired
coal mine owner and operator in Virginia and was a retired owner of Blankenship Landscaping in Detroit, MI.
He is survived by Six sons, William C.
and Kevin D. Blankenship, both of Huntington, WV; Sam Blankenship of Lavalette,
WV; Robie Blankenship of Cleveland, OH; Randy Blankenship
of Wichita, Kan; and Donald K. Blankenship of White Sulpher Springs; Five Daughters, Eloise Thompson of Chillicothe, OH; Janith Iverson of Cove City, KY; Joan Sansom of Ardel, WV; Joyce Traylor of Lavalette, WV; Rita Lockhart of Proctorville, OH; Wilma Willis and
Husband, Wes of St. Augustine, FL. With whom he made his home; Two Sisters, Sarah Isaacs
of Guyandotte, WV; Sabra Rowe
of Huntington, WV; One brother, Clyde Blankenship of Lavalette,
WV; 32 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren; a host of special Nieces, Nephews

Carrie A. Wheeler 87, of Dania, Fla., formerly of Springfield, died
March 24 at Humana Hospital of South Broward in Hollywood, Fla. She was born
Aug. 22, 1902, in Petersburg, the daughter of Ezra and Geneva Robinson Hinds.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wendell G. Wheeler; and
one son, Charles Robert Wilson. Prior to her retirement, she was a nurse's
aide.
Surviving are four sons, Victor Wilson of Pleasant Plains, Phillip
Wilson of Lawson, Mo., Leonard Wilson of Springfield and Paul Wilson of
Hollywood, Fla.; one daughter, Violet Snipes of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two
stepsons, Charles and Wendell Wheeler, both of Springfield; one stepdaughter, Donna Blankenship of Springfield; several grandchildren;
several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Kuntz of California.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Oak Ridge
Cemetery, with the Rev. Wayne Absager officiating.

Rev. Adrian Emory Blankenship, 81, Senior Associate Pastor of the First Baptist Church of
Naples died Monday, December 29, 1997. He and his wife, Marie celebrated over
83 years of the Gospel Ministry. In 1934 Rev. Blankenship was
ordained to the Gospel Ministry by the First Baptist Church in Monette, Ark. He
served as Pastor of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, Ark. In
1939 he graduated from Ouachira Baptist University,
Arkadelphia, Ark. He attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and
became pastor of Peathaven Baptist Church,
Brookhaven, Miss. In 1945, He Graduated from the
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary of Louisville, KY and from 1945 to 1957
he was the Missionary to Brazil appointed through the Southern Baptist Foreign
Mission Board. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church, Lenoir, NC and
at Derita Baptist Church Charlotte, NC. In 1980 he
helped start a church in Columbus, Ohio and assisted the pastor and taught
classes at San Pablo Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla. From 1988 untill his death, Rev Blankenship was
Senior Associate Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Naples, He was a member
of the American Association of Churistian Counselors.
He is survived by his wife

Church of Naples, 1595 Pine Ridge Road with Dr. Hayes Wicker, Pastor

The Rev. Byron Miller Wilkinson, the first Southern Baptist pastor
to have a weekly program on television, died of cancer Monday in Lake Wales, Fla. The former pastor of bGrove Avenue Baptist Church and Hatcher Memorial Baptist
Church here was 83.
In 1946, Mr. Wilkinson, then 33, became pastor of Grove Avenue
Baptist Church. Two years later, he was featured on a series of 13 half-hour
programs on WTVR. Mr. Wilkinson remained at Grove Avenue Baptist until 1952,
when he was named pastor of First Baptist Church in Lakeland, Fla, said his
son, Byron Wells Wilkinson of St. Augustine, Fla. Mr. Wilkinson returned to
Richmond in 1957 as pastor of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, where he served
until 1967, when he accepted the pastorate of Tattnall Square Baptist Church on
the campus of Mercer University in Macon, Ga. Mr. Wilkinson was a former
speaker for the Southern Baptist Convention on "Frontiers of Faith,"
NBC's nationwide television program broadcast from Radio City Music Hall in New
York in the 1950s. On March 23, 1950, Mr. Wilkinson became the first visiting
minister to offer the congressional prayer in both houses of Congress on the
same day.
He was born in Huntington, W.Va., and graduated from Marshall
University, where he was captain of the tennis team for four years. He also
studied at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and at the University of
Louisville. Mr. Wilkinson was a former president of the Baptist Pastor's
Conference for the city of Richmond and for the state of Florida. He was a
former trustee of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Tift College in
Georgia.
In addition to his son, survivors include his wife, Moselle
Blankenship Wilkinson, and a
daughter, Ricki Lou Bowholtz of Lake Wales.

aerospace electronics field. He attended the First Christian Church of Winter
Haven. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Norman Earl Sheppard, 69, of Winter Haven, Florida formerly of
Milton, WV, died May 4, 1999, at James A. Halley Veterans Hospital in Tampa. Funeral services will be
conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Mitchell-Harden Funeral Home in Winter Haven.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Norman was born August 11, 1929, in Myrtle, Mingo County, WV. He is
the son of the late Pierce and Bertha Hayes Sheppard.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, Annetta Hatfield, Vernie Clagg Blankenship, Marie Sheppard, Rush "Rusty"
Sheppard and William "John" Sheppard. He was a member of the Moose
Lodge, VFW and American Legion Post 8. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps
veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Keeler Sheppard two daughters,
Mary Jane Adkins of Huntington, WV, and Joyce Renee Gilkerson
of Paintsville, KY one brother, Fredrick Sheppard of Crossville, TN four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Blankenship, 80, of St. Augustine, Fla., Formerly of Chesapeake, OH died
Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999 at Shands Hospital in
Gainesville, FL. He was born October 2, 1918 in East Lynn, WV, the son of the
late Lindsey and Laura Adkins Blankenship.
He was a retired coal mine
owner and operator in Virginia and was a retired owner of Blankenship
Landscaping in Detroit, MI.
He is survived by Six sons, William
