Mr. Calvin A. Blankenship, 76, of Adairsville, passed away Wednesday, May 13. He was born in
Henry County, Ga. on January 4, 1933, to the late Joseph and Viola Mae Moss Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship had been a heavy equipment operator with Cochran Brothers,
and was a vet-eran, having served his country in the
United State Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Pleasant
Valley Full Gospel Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in
death by a son, C.W. Blankenship;
brothers, Marvin Blankenship, J.R. Blankenship, Burean Blankenship, and Leehue Blankenship; and two sisters, Frances Gerrard,
and Lillie Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geraldine Hensley Blankenship; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Alfred Stanley, and Kathy and Mike Jones,
all of Adairsville; and a sister, Pauline Carter of
Stockbridge. Eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and
other rela-tives also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Calvin A. Blankenship were conducted Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m.
from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Timms officiating. Interment followed in the Sugar Valley
United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers included Mi-chael Jones, Michael Thompson, Dustin Phillips, Jeff
Jones, Keith Jones, Mike Jones, and Cliff Jones. The family received friends at
the funeral home Friday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

William "Bill" Blankenship, 77, of 213 Floral Dr. SE, Cartersville died Thursday,
August 16, 2007 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Bartow County on
December 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Roland and Minnie Irene Reynolds Blankenship; the husband of the late Barbara Lou Baker Blankenship; and the brother of the late Mary Lou Eldridge, Eleanor Montgomery and Virginia Shehard. Bill had worked for several
years on the railroad and had retired as a truck driver. He was a member of the
Kingston Masonic Lodge and Kingston Batist Church.
Survivors include his sister,
Faye Roberson of Rome; his nieces and nehews, Roy Eldridge of Rydal, Linda Cagle of Kingston,
Roland Eldridge of Rome, Steve Eldridge of Kingston, Jim Eldridge of
Cartersville, Barbara Eldridge of Cartersville, Connie Barrett of Cartersville,
John Roberson of Rome, and Elizabeth Peace of Rome; his very secial niece and caretaker, Susanne Wall of Cartersville;
his great-great-nieces and nehew, Savanna Strange, Sierrah Strange, Dakota Strange, Madison Eldridge, Makaila
Wall, and Gabriella Wall; and many other nieces, nehews
and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 .m. on Sunday, August
19, 2007 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral
Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Leon Smith officiating. Burial will
follow in the Kingston Cemetery.

Mrs. Beckham was born September 30, 1906 in Calhoun County,
daughter of the late Edward "Ed" Lewis and Lena Holloway Lewis. She
was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she kept the Cemetery records and
was the Family historian. Mrs. Beckham was a homemaker and the wife of the late
Charlie G. Beckham.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Blankenship

She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Harvey L. Towe, whom she married April 9, 1954. In addition to her
husband, she is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Jimmy) Green of Colbert;

(Joni) Towe of Watkinsville, Gary (Rhonda) Towe of Greensboro, Terry (Carrie) Towe

Nancy Earleen Akridge
Blankenship, 80, of DuPont,
passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Clinch Memorial Hospital.
A native of Arlington, she had lived most of her life in Tifton
before moving to DuPont. She was the widow of Thomas Blankenship and the daughter of the late Richard Edward and Lucille Jaquess Akridge and she was a
member of the Northside Baptist Church in Tifton. A sister, Nina Sumner; and
three brothers, Edward Akridge, Bob Akridge, and Ben Akridge,
preceded her in death.
Survivors are one son and
daughter-in-law, George and
Dorothy Blankenship; three grandchildren, Felicia and Tommy Bennett of Homerville and Nancy
Pittman of Homerville, Branion and
Sherry Blankenship of Tifton; three sisters, Inez Yarbough of Fitzgerald, Ruth and Henry Britt of Sycamore,
Louise Dean of Alma; 10 great-grandchildren; Josh Bennett, Mandi

Born in Lancaster, SC., Mr. Knight was a Navy veteran, serving
during World War II. He owned and operated K and M Office Supply Co. for 30
plus years in Fayetteville, N.C. He was the founder of Cumberland County, North
Carolina Rescue Squad in which he received the Book of Golden Deeds from the
Cumberland County Board of Commissioners for recognition of services to the
community. He was a Mason and a Shriner and attended Snyder Memorial Baptist
Church in Fayetteville.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Knight of Powder Springs; daughters, Joan Knight Blankenship of Narrows, Va., Debbie Knight Church of

Mr. Blankenship

Dixie Staffing Services in Douglasville. Mr. Blankenship was a member of North

friend to many. He enjoyed hunting, music, reading, politics, computers and spending
time with his family.

Moultrie, Georgia, formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., who died Tuesday, May 22,
2007, at her residence. She was born April 14, 1938,
in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Reece "Bud" Blankenship and Leona Cazad Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Walter Blankenship. She attended Barboursville High School
and was a licensed practical nurse in Home Health Care. She worked at Morris
Memorial Nursing, St. Mary's Hospital and Huntington State Hospital.
She is survived by her sons, Windell Wilkie Shull, Jr. and Donna Hardee of West Virginia, Rex
Kelvin Shull and wife Debbie of Moultrie, and Mark Douglas Shull and wife

LOWRY, Carolyn Echols, 90,of Moultrie, Ga. and formerly of
Montgomery, passed away Tuesday, October 20,2009, at Colquitt Regional Medical
Center, Moultrie, Ga. Carolyn was born February13, 1919 in Calera, AL to Hattie
and Robert Echols. She was a member of Perry Hill United Methodist Church, Montgomery,
AL and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and a charter member
of St. John's United Methodist Church in Hopkinsville, KY. She was a devoted
wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who loved to sew and knit
gifts for her family and friends. She was an avid gardener, who cut her own grass
until she was 80. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband
,Clarence Lowry, Jr., her sister, Marietta Parker, and brothers, Bob
Echols and Howard Echols.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Diane) Lowry of Moultrie, GA
and Faye (John)Martin of Chattanooga, TN-five grandchildren-Carol(Eric) Blankenship, Ringgold, GA, John (Karen) Martin, Brunswick,

Mrs. Iris Shurley Cartledge
Stanley, 88 entered into rest November 13, 2009. She was the beloved wife of
the late Walter Stanley and the late Merrell Cartledge.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM , Friday,
November 20, 2009 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel
with Revs. Ron Hankal and Rick
Slagle officiating. Interment will follow in the Mill Creek Baptist
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Ethan Cartledge,
Matthew Cartledge, Gabriel Hogan, Stacy Hogan, Josh
Gibson and Charles Gibson.
Mrs. Stanley was a native of Warren County but made her home in
Columbia County for the past 25 years. She was the daughter of the late Coyle Shurley and the late Ora Mae Shurley.
Mrs. Stanley was retired as a supervisor from Garland/ Health Tex Corp. . She was also a member
of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she was active in WMU and served as the
church pianist for many years.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Cartledge
and wife Gina of Appling; daughters, Polly Black and husband Carlton of
Martinez, Joanne Parrish and husband Billy of Evans; five grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren; additional survivors include, Walter and Marcia Stanley,III, Billie and Jorge
Jimenez and Jackie Blankenship.

injuries sustained in an accident. He was born in Hahira on Sept. 15, 1980, the

Mr. David D. Lewis Sr., 86, of Grantville, Ga., died Thursday, Feb.
12, 2009, at his home. Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Cleburne
County, Ala., son of the late Charles and Mary Argroves
Lewis. A resident of Coweta County most of his life, he retired as a bus driver
from the Coweta County School System, was a member of Oaklawn
Baptist Church in Newnan, and was a member of Bigham
Masonic Lodge in Moreland.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Obenhausen
Lewis of Grantville; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Terrell Blankenship of Grantville; sons and daughter-in-law,
Wayne and Bonnie Lewis of Grantville and David D. Lewis Jr. of Newnan; brother,
Joseph Z. Lewis Sr. of Grantvllle; eight
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Beckom
Lewis; and his daughters, Emily Alice Lewis and Mary Lee Hawk.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 in

Mrs. Geneva Kern, 85, of Grantville, Ga., died Wednesday, Nov. 18,
2009, at her home. Mrs. Kern was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Boyle , MS, daughter of the late Webster and Gertie Williams
Ray. She had lived in Grantville since 1985, was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Grantville, and was an active member of the Grantville Senior Center.
She retired from Sears and was later employed by T & R Grocery and Kids Kountry Day Care.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Darlene and Sammy
Cole and Cathy Southern, all of Grantville; sister, Mary Emma Blankenship of Biloxi, MS; nine grandchildren, Shawn
and Rebecca Kern, Danny and Missy Kern, Joel and Kay Fowler, Lewis Miller,
Billy and Kelley Miller, Danielle and Josh Robinson, Scotty and Amanda Cole,
Daniel Cole, and Jesse Cole; 28 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter;
and a number of honorary grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Loyd E. (Bud) Kern; son, Danny Kern;
grandchildren, Kimberly Kern and Jason Miller; two sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20 at First Baptist
Church of Grantville with the Rev. Ed Wyatt and the Rev. Jay Moore officiating.
Interment will be Saturday afternoon in the New Cleveland Cemetery in
Cleveland, MS.

Mr. Tommy Darrell "Bobo" Webb, age 59, of Newnan, died on
July 25, 2008, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Mr. Webb was born on Nov. 14, 1948,

a carpenter by trade.

Mrs. Sharon Rebecca Stanfield, age 49, of Newnan, died at Piedmont
Fayette Hospital on May 22, 2009. She was born in Cobb County on August
21, 1959, to the late James Armstrong and Mary Swanson Armstrong. She was in
the accounts payable department of Delta Airlines where she had worked for over
ten years. Becky loved gospel singing, and scrapbooking was her favorite hobby.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and especially loved her three grandchildren
and was looking forward to the fourth who is soon to
be born. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Frank Stanfield.
Surviving are her sons, Jamie Estep and his wife Jennifer of
Temple, and Brandon Estep and his fiancé Cassie Fricks
of Rockmart; daughter, Carmen Stanfield of Newnan; fiancé, John W. Waugh;
brothers, Paskal Armstrong of Austell and Walter
Armstrong of Temple; sister, Deborah Clem and her husband Peter of Florida;

George William Belcourt, age 87 of
Bainbridge, Ga., husband of the late Helen Pickett Belcourt
and son of the late Arthur and Mary Murphy Belcourt,
passed into eternal rest, Tuesday, April 21, 2009. He was born Friday, July
29th, 1921 in Meriden and moved to the Decatur County ten years ago.
He was a truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force
serving during World War II. He was a member of the Retired Teamster Union of
Bridgeport #443 and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs and Warehousers. He loved traveling, ancestry and his family.
He is survived by three daughters, June Belcourt

Burnes Lee Blankenship, 72, of Albany, died Saturday, January 18, 2003 at his residence.
His funeral service will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern
with interment to follow at Morgan City Cemetery, Morgan, GA. Elder Max Childs
will officiate.
A native of Paynesville, WV, Mr. Blankenship had
lived in Albany since 1973. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force,
serving in the Vietnam Conflict and retired with 22 years of service. Upon
retirement, he was an associate working for Civil Service at the Albany Marine
Corps Logistics Base, Albany Lincoln Mercury, Tanner Dean Motors and retiring
again with Oglethorpe Auto Service. An avid golfer and bowler, his memberships
also included The Air Force Sgt.'s Association, American Legion Post No. 30,
V.F.W. No. 2875, and The Loyal Order of the Moose, holding the highest degree,
the "Pilgrims Degree of Merit".
Survivors include his wife, Dora Mae Eubanks Blankenship of Albany; a daughter, Brenda Blankenship McLean of Albany; a son, Brian Blankenship and wife, Tonya of Marietta; two sisters, Lena Blankenship

Mrs. Mildred Frances Tatum, age 78, of 21 Conn str., Rome, died Saturday morning, May 22,
2004, at a local hospital. A native of Bartow County, Mrs. Tatum was born on
June 17, 1925, the Daughter of the late Milton Winford Blankenship, and the late Mary Florence Tate Blankenship.
She has been a resident of Rome
since 1962 moving here from Alexandria, LA. Mrs. Tatum was a house wife and a
member of the Wilkerson Road Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday school class
where she served as a secretary.
She was preceded in death by a son, Winford Tatum on
Jan. 11, 1990.
Mrs. Tatum was married on Dec. 28, 1950 to Coleman Johnson Tatum
who survives. She is survived by her husband, Coleman J. Tatum; a son and
Daughter-in-law, John and Marilynn Tatum of Rome; Two grandchildren, Ashleigh
and Jodie Tatum; Two brothers, Hugh Blankenship, of Shannon, and Travis Joe
Blankenship of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held
Monday afternoon, May 24, 2004 at I p.m. from the Parkview chapel of Fred
Talley’s funeral Home with the Rev. David Fincher officiating with interment to

Daniel Preston Blankenship, 64, of 140A Turner Road, Rome, died unexpectedly Thursday [27Apr2006] in an area hospital. A native of Polk
County, Mr. Blankenship was born November 11, 1941, son of Lena Robinson Blankenship and the late Bruce Blankenship.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having earned a Purple Heart in
Vietnam and was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church. He was associated with
Klopman Mills for a number of years and had also been
a bail bond recovery agent.
He was preceded in death by his father and by a nephew, Brandon Blankenship.
Survivors include his children,
Danny Blankenship and wife, Barbara Ann, of Rome; Dee Ann Holman and husband, Robert, of Denver, Col.; Sean Blankenship of Rome; his mother, Lena
Blankenship of Cave Spring;
four grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Randy

Mrs. Rose Anna Tate Johnston, age 90, of 1873 Turkey Mountain Road,
Rome, GA, died Friday, February 23, 2007, at her residence. Mrs. Johnston was
born in Walker County on January 20, 1917, the daughter of the late John Wesley
and Effie Blankenship Tate.
She owned and operated Johnston's Lake and was a homemaker. Mrs.
Johnston loved her family and grandchildren. Also, she enjoyed working in her
flower garden, cooking, and taking care of everybody.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Johnston is preceded in death by
her husband, Jake Johnston, a son, Robert Johnston, and thirteen brothers and
sisters.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her son Jerry Jake Johnston of Rome,
GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby Lee and Howard Johnson of Lawton, OK; four
grandchildren and spouses, Nancy Johnston of Rome, GA, David and Angela
Johnston of Armuchee, GA, David Johnson of Lawton,
OK, and Venida Johnson of Lawton, OK; five
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and
nephews also survive.

(Tobe) Newsome, 8 brothers and sisters and is survived by her sons Jimmy

favorite things and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Herman Artie Cary Blankenship, 67, of Hamilton, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the Medical
Center. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Pine
Mountain Valley First Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
Mr. Blankenship was
born March 22, 1940 in Isaban, WV.,
the son of the late Charles R. Blankenship and Beulah Blankenship.
He served for our country in the Army in the early 1960's and was a
sharpshooter (Rifle M14). Mr. Blankenship was
also a West Virginia coal miner and a truck driver. On August 21, 1971 he
married the love of his life, Gerlene Hopson Mounts Blankenship.
Survivors include his wife, Gerlene Blankenship of Hamilton; the loving father of one daughter, Tammy Coulter, her husband Johnny, their children, Dusty and Jordan
Butts, Mallory, Johnathan and BJ Coulter of Fortson; four sons, Jimmy Hopson

Grady Blankenship, age
60, Stockbridge died Wednesday. Mr. Blankenship was born December 30, 1940, son
of William Marvin and the late Emma N. Blankenship.
He was a lifelong resident of
Henry County and a general contractor. A member of
Stockbridge First Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and looked upon as a role
model by the youth of the church. He was a member of the International
Show Car Association and a recipient of numerous trophies. He was very active
with Car Shows for Kids at the First Baptist Church,
donations were for the children of Henry County. Mr. Blankenship was an
accomplished wood craftsman and commonly known as the "Fix-It Man".
Survivors include his wife, Jo, father and stepmother, Marvin
and Lilla Blankenship, Stockbridge; daughter
and son-in-law, Karen and Bryan Barner of Hampton; grandsons,
Zachery, Ethan and Daniel; sister, Carol
Baines, Rockmart; brothers, J. D. Blankenship and David Blankenship,
both of Stockbridge; several nieces and nephews.

James Melvin Blankenship, 53, died Tuesday, March 4, at Winn Army Community Hospital at
Fort Stewart.
He was a native of Alexander City, Ala., and had lived the past 22
years in Hinesville. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years as an E-7 and
worked at DPW on Fort Stewart. He was of the Baptist faith.

Ms. Bailey was born in Lawrence County, Missouri, daughter of the
late Jaxie F. Hope and Mary E. Sanders; and has lived
in Columbus since 1952. She was a gracious lady and faithful Christian and a long time member of First Baptist Church and the Covenant-McClatchey Sunday School Class. Ms. Bailey was an icon in
the community and was the Owner and Executive Director of Mable Bailey
Fashion College. She was a true matriarch to her family whom she loved dearly,
and her many students where considered part of her own family. Her husband,
Stanley B. Bailey, two grandsons, Jeffrey Blankenship
and Shane Stephens and a sister, Marie Adams preceded her in death.
Survivors include her three children, Ramona Blankenship and her husband Louie of Montgomery, AL., Stan Bailey and his wife Annette of Columbus,
and Sylvia Bailey Seferian and her husband Joe of
Columbus; a brother, Everett Hope and his wife Pat of Bronaugh,

John Blankenship,
of Covington, died April 25, 2006, at the age of 83. He was the son of the late
Joseph and Iris Dempsey Blankenship.
A veteran of World War II and one of the survivors of Pearl Harbor,
Mr. Blankenship served in the Pacific Theater and in the battle of Guadalcanal.
At Scofield Barracks, Mr. Blankenship was standing in line for breakfast when
Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist
Church, American Legion Post 32, Disabled Veterans chapter 55, and VFW.
Employed at Covington Furniture for 52 years until retirement, Mr. Blankenship
loved fishing, jokes, his family, friends and church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy

Carl C. Steenbergen, 80, of Dallas, Ga.,
formerly of Adairville died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 at
his residence. He was born in Allen County Oct. 21, 1927 a son of the late
Charlie and Pernie Medley Steenbergen.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Steenbergen
was proceeded in death by his sisters, Edna Mae
Blankenship, Lucille Sikes,
Helen Bridges and Louise Lawson. Mr. Steenbergen was
a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII. He was the city
superintendent of the Adairville Water and Sewer
Department for 25 years and a member of the Adairville
Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Adairville and was a loving father and friend.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 25 at New Hope Baptist
Church with Bro. Danny Pace officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Thurman Blake, Mack McKenzie, Chris Lynn, Chad Robertson,
Carlos Ford and Billy Dorris.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Davis Steenbergen; his son, Roger and wife Tai Steenbergen of Hiram, Ga.; his brother, Brice Steenbergen of Franklin, Ind.; his grandchildren, T. J. Steenbergen of Henderson, Nev. and Steven Steenbergen of Austin, Texas, and a host of nieces and
nephews.

Mr. Blankenship was a veteran of the
United States Army, a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Mableton and was
a cabinet maker.

married Albert Blankenship, who survives. She was a homemaker, a
teacher at Garrison Pilcher School and a member of Dawson Street Baptist
Church.
Other survivors include sons & daughters-in-law: Bruce Neal & Teresa Blankenship, of Thomasville, and Charles Albert & Cyndi Blankenship, of Canton, N.C. Also surviving are

Mr. Blaine Dean, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday, November 28, 2008 at Union General Hospital. Mr. Dean was born
Wednesday, June 16, 1920 in Mingo County, West Virginia, to the late Newton and
Sara Jane (Blankenship) Dean .
He grew up in Gilbert, West Virginia, and graduated from Gilbert
High School and then entered the US Navy and served until his retirement in
1962. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired to
Jacksonville, Florida, where he volunteered in the Naval Hospital with the Red
Cross until 2005.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Holbrook Dean and
thirteen brothers and sisters.
Surviving family members are: 8 sisters: Oma Montgomery of
Cleveland, Ohio; Ruby Robinson of Gilbert, West Virginia; Carrie Franklin of Chesapeak, Ohio; Georgia Jones of Sacramento, California;
Betty Vance of Davin, West Virginia; June Grant of Smithville, West Virginia;
Helen Hendricks of Gilbert, West Virginia; and Rhenda
Stafford of Blue Ridge, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

services for Ree McKinsley Blankenship, 67, of Thomaston, were held last Thursday, May 4, in the chapel of
Coggins Funeral Home in Thomaston, with burial in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The

Mr. Blankenship
died Saturday, April 29, at Cartersville Medical Center, [Bartow Co., GA]. Mr. Blankenship was born on March 17, 1939, in Eatonton, the son of Nora and the late Edward Blankenship.
He served his
country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Blankenship was employed
with All Coast Trucking where he worked as a truck driver for two and a half
years. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors
include his wife, Mrs. Deborah Blankenship of Thomaston; daughters, Penny Barnes of Alpharetta, Melissa Neese, Christy Samples and Julie Taylor,
all of Thomaston, and Angie Dickerson

in Harriman, he was the son of Lawrence and Clara Cochran, both of whom

the USS Saratoga. He retired from Combustion Engineering after 30 years of
