Arlene Ruth Rude, 73, of Ute died suddenly Sunday, July 19, 1998,
at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Edgar Bode
officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery.
Mrs. Rude was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Ute, the daughter of Carl and
Dorothea (Timm) Jahn. She
attended parochial school through the eighth grade and graduated from Ute High
School in 1942. She married Wilbur Rude on June 1, 1944, in Ute. She taught
rural school for three years and public elementary school in Dunlap and Charter
Oak, Iowa, for 25 years, in remedial reading. She graduated from Morningside
College in Sioux City in 1975. She retired in 1989. She was a member of St.
Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Paul's LWML and Friends of the Library. She taught
Sunday School, confirmation classes and was a Boy Scout
leader.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Ronald and
Cinda of Mapleton, Iowa, and Roger and Theresa of
Omaha, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Rita and Richard Smook of Luverne, Minn., and Rose and Marvin
Blankenship of St. Louis; nine
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Walter and
Edna Jahn of Ute and Ervin and Dorothy Jahn of Gillete, Wyo.; a sister
and her husband, Erma and Louis Sander of Ute; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herbert Jahn; a sister, Lydia Jahn; a
daughter, Karen Arlene; and a son, Russell Dean.

Marvel M. Jahn, 74, of Moville died
Saturday, July 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Moville United Methodist Church, with
the Rev. Doresa Collogan,
pastor of Gladbrook United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in
Arlington Township Cemetery.
Mrs. Jahn was born Dec. 9, 1923, in
Climbing Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Maud (Jarnagin)
Steinhauer. She was raised in the Climbing Hill area
and graduated from Climbing Hill High School. She married Harry W.
"Buck" Jahn on Sept. 20, 1941, in Climbing
Hill. The couple moved to the Moville area, where she was a homemaker. They
moved into Moville in 1976. She was a member of Moville United Methodist
Church, the church choir, the United Methodist Women, the Moville Garden Club,
the Moville Womens Club and the South Sioux City
Eagles. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and flowers.
Survivors include her huband; a son and
his wife, Harry E. "Bucky" and Jana of Moville; a daughter, Marilyn Dillivan of Urbandale, Iowa; four grandchildren, Douglas Dillivan, Vicky Richardson, Ginger and Gina Jahn; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Blankenship of Moville; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three
sisters and a son-in-law.

Carroll W. Schubert, 74, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997,
at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be at 11
a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Geelan, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church,
officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Schubert was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Sioux City, the son of
George and Anna (Carroll) Schubert. He attended St. Boniface Grade School and
Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medical
technician. He married Helen Humphrey in 1940, in Pender, Neb. She died June
12, 1986, in Sioux City. He was employed as a paint salesman for Hansen Glass
and Paint and was a painter for Chick Blankenship Painting and Decorating. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a
member of Painters Local Union 214.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jim and Ginny and Gary
and Betsy, all of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Karen and
Dick Hagaman and Mary and Jim Adams, all of Sioux
City, and Debbie and Jim Marshall of Wakefield, Kan.; a brother, Archie of
Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Irene Davis and Helen and her husband, John Hall,
all of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Scott, Darrick
and Lindsey Schubert, Melinda Vogt, Rhonda and Shelly Adams, Jamie Duncan,
Brianne and Allie Marshall and Troy and Todd Hagaman;
10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Scott and Darrick
Schubert, Troy and Todd Hagaman, Scott Vogt and Dale
Duncan.

Arthur W. "Honest Abe" Stokes, 85, of Sioux City died
Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the Matney Morningside
Manor. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Graceland Park
Cemetery, with Pastor Troy Elie of Morningside
Assembly of God officiating. There will be no visitation. Larkin Funeral Home
is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Stokes was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur
and Lillie (Fox) Stokes Sr.
He married Lois A. Newhouse on Nov. 24, 1933, in a public wedding at the
Orpheum Theater in Sioux City. He was employed with Needham Packing for 25
years and as a painter with Blankenship
Painting Company. He was a member of Morningside Assembly of God. He was active in
the Sioux City Community Theater and was a professional boxer. He bore a strong
resemblance to Abraham Lincoln, portraying him in many parades including the
Bicentennial Parade.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Arthur J. of Columbus,
Neb., David B. and his wife Carole and Richard and his wife Cathy, all of Sioux
City; two daughters, Sally and her husband Jim Collier and Barbara Ryan, all of
Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother and his
wife, Junior and Hellana of Germany.
He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
