Elsie Ilene White,
88, of Waterloo, died Friday, Nov. 13, at Allen Hospital of pneumonia. She
was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Manchester, daughter of Louie and Frances Frailey
Blankenship. She married
Robert O. White on Nov. 1, 1945, in Cedar Rapids. He died July of 1993. Mrs.
White worked as a legal secretary for several law firms.
Survived by: a son, Jeff of Waterloo; a
daughter-in-law, Kathy Connolly of Urbandale; and three grandchildren, Nathan,
Kelly and Colleen Connolly.
Preceded in death by: two sons, Robert Jr. at birth
and Gregory; a brother, Earl
Blankenship; and two sisters, Elna Reggentine and Eva Downs.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of
Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Cedar Memorial Park
Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Mrs. Mayberry died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Winslow House Care
Center, Marion, after a brief illness. She taught in a country school northwest
of Onslow for two years. Wilma Blanchard was born Nov. 9, 1915, near Hopkinton.
She married Delbert Mayberry in 1938 in Anamosa.
Survivors include daughters, Sheryl Burmahl
and Wanda Blankenship, both of Marion; sons, James, Cedar
Rapids, and Richard, Olin; 14 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Marguerite Blankenship, 90, Bloomfield, IA, died March 25, 2006, at the Davis County
Hospital, Bloomfield, IA. She was born February 1, 1916, in Memphis, MO., to
Harley T. and Flossie B. Forrester Black.
On June 12, 1948, she married David Blankenship in Ottumwa, IA.
After graduating from the Rutledge, MO High School in 1934, she
attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO,
graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught three years in
rural Scotland County, MO, five years in Memphis, MO, two years in Keokuk, IA,
and 14 years in the Davis County Community Schools. In 1945, she joined the
American Red Cross as a nurse and worked in the Army-Navy Hospital in Hot
Springs, AR. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Davis
County Hospital Auxiliary and the Davis County Welcome Center.
Surviving her are her husband; two sons, David Jr. of Preston, MO,
and Danny Lee of Littleton, CO; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two
sisters, Dorothy Zinnert of Hartsville, MO. and Jeanette
Adams of Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Leon F.
Black.
Funeral services were held March 29, 2006, at the Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home in Bloomfield, IA, with the
Rev. Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial was in the
I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

David Wayne Blankenship, 94, of Bloomfield, Iowa died July 6, 2009 at his home. He was
born September 28, 1914 in Davis County, Iowa to John R. and Jennie Herbert
Blankenship.
He married Marguerite Black June 12, 1948 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She
preceded him in death March 25, 2006.
He owned and operated a Mobil station for 19 years and was also a
mechanic at Vaughn Motor Company in Bloomfield. He was a member of the Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and
served in the United States Army during WWII.
He is survived by 2 sons, David Jr. Blankenship (Fiancée Kay
Lorton) of Preston, Missouri, Danny L. (Charlo) Blankenship of Littleton,
Colorado; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers, Earl
"Gus", Glen and Edgar "Pert" Blankenship; 2 sisters, Ethel
Blankenship and Edith Brown.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the
Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor
Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with military

Mary Ellen Ancelet, 53, of Burlington,
died at 8:44 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at St. Mary Regional Care Center in
Reno, Nev. Born July 4, 1954, in Burlington, she was
the daughter of John F. and Mildren F. Sly Andrews.
On Dec. 27, 1988, she married Vernon Ancelet. He died
Feb. 9, 1996. Mrs. Ancelet was a cashier at Wal-Mart
for 10 years and was an electrician at Burlington Northern Railroad for 12
years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Optimist Club of
Burlington. She was a freelance artist and enjoyed impromptu art of animals and
people, painted murals and cartoons. She was Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, David Elias Ancelet
of Minneapolis, Minn., Vern Ancelet and Byron Ancelet, both of Burlington; one daughter, Nelllie Ancelet of Burlington;
her mother of Burlington; two sisters, Linda Blankenship
of Austin, Texas, and Susan Gavin of Washington; three brothers, John Andrews
and Donald Andrews, both of Burlington, and Charles Andrews of Bakersfield,
Calif.
Besides her
husband, she was preceded in death by her father and two sisters.
The funeral for Mrs. Ancelet will be at
11 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel with the Rev.
Kirk Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Leslie was born
Dec. 4, 1911, in Vera, Ill. to Dave and Lily Fansler Blankenship. He was educated in country schools near
Williams and on June 4, 1934, he married
Geraldine Hurd in Webster City. They farmed until 1963,
when he took up trucking. He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist
Church. His hobbies were horseshoes, "500" cards, and watching birds
and squirrels. He enjoyed the simple things in life.
He is survived by his wife
of 67 years, Geraldine, of Hampton; a daughter, Laurene Meronek of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Bernice Burkett of Dumont, Mae Ragsdale and husband, Lawrence, of Hampton, and Myrna Bills of Mason City; six grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Erma Bodde, Velma Behrens and Jean Pederson; and two sons, Robert and Donald.

Richard Lowell "Dick" Casady, 78,
of Keokuk, Iowa went gently into the next world surrounded by his family and
friends following a long battle with prostate cancer. He passed at 230, Tuesday
afternoon, November 13, 2007, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
Dick was born November 11, 1929 in Milton, Iowa, the son of Thomas
Lowell and Florence Pauline Meirs Casady.
He was raised by his mother and his stepfather, John William Evans. He married Mary Blankenship at the First Community Church in Joplin,
Missouri, on October 30, 1965. She survives. After retiring in 1989, he and
Mary wintered in Arizona for the past 16 years. Where he love spending time
with his Arizona adopted family, Bernie, Pamela, Dominique, Vincent and Nigel Stannus. He loved attending the Arizona Opera and Tucson
Symphony spending time with his many Arizona friends.
He is survived by his wife; three children; six grandchildren; four
greatgrandchildren; two brothers; nieces; nephews; cousins and numerous
friends.
A gathering of friends and family was held Tuesday, November 20,
2007, at First Christian Church in Keokuk.

A memorial service for William Howard King, 80, will be held at 2
p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2003, at the Marion High School Auditorium. The Rev.
Emory Gillespie, pastor of the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, will preside
and the Eastern Iowa Brass Band will participate. Mr. King, a longtime Marion
resident, died August 31, 2003.
He is survived by a daughter, Marybeth Kantner
and husband Carl of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Kenneth King and wife Chon-Hye King of Lansing, Kansas, and James King of St. Charles,
Missouri; and two grandchildren, Carl William and Elizabeth Kantner.
William (Bill) King was born January 6, 1923, in Cawker City,
Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his father, Harlen D. King; his mother,
Besse Gaston Blankenship; and stepfather,
Jesse Blankenship.
He enrolled at Drake University, Des Moines, before World War II
and was drum major for the marching band. During the war, he was a pilot and
flight instructor on B-17 and A-26 aircraft for the U.S. Army Air Force, and held
commercial multi-engine ratings. He married Marjorie Christiansen in 1944.
After the war, he completed his studies at Drake and received a degree in
chemistry. He served in the Air Force Reserves until 1971, attaining the rank
of lieutenant colonel. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for
Meritorious Service.
His employment career included working with Fairchild Aircraft in
Hagerstown, Maryland. He directed the photography department of Collins Radio
Company in the 1950s and early 60s, and also worked for HyTone
Film Laboratories, Des Moines. He later owned Microfilm Services Co., Cedar
Rapids, and worked at WMT-TV. Prior to retirement, he was a cartographer for
the Linn County assessor. He was a member of East Side Kiwanis and First
Presbyterian Church of Marion, served on the Marion Library board and was a
longtime supporter of the Eastern Iowa Brass Band.

Shirley Bell passed away at Pella Hospice Comfort House Sunday, October
29 2006 at 3:40 p.m. Her death ended her long and brave struggle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bell in 1994.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kay Bell of San Diego,
California, Lana Bell of Boulder Colorado, and Nan Bell of Knoxville, Iowa. She
is also survived by her grandchildren,
Sichia and Anton Bell of Boulder, Colorado, and Laura Blankenship of Knoxville, Iowa.
Shirley leaves a legacy of love, strength of character, and many
personal gifts and talents that she shared with everyone fortunate enough to be
part of her life. She was an inspiration for others in their pursuit of
artistry, growth of intellect, and in devotion to assist the well being of humankind. Shirley’s artistic talents in
addition to her drafting skills included acclaimed pencil drawings, and
paintings. She was an accomplished seamstress, and designed and quilted more
than 50 quilts. Most of those gave as gifts to friends and family.
Shirley was born in Granger, Iowa on April 27, 1925, where she grew
up with one brother, Richard Baker, and two sisters, Lois and Jean Baker.
Following high school graduation she attended Iowa State University to study
Mechanical and Architectural Engineering. She was the first female member of
the Iowa Engineering Society, and one of the first females to study engineering
at Iowa State, and to be selected as a member of Beta Sigma Pi Honors Society.
Shirley was employed in drafting services for many years, beginning
her career at Brown Engineering in Des Moines, Iowa Power in Oskaloosa, and for
the US Navy while her husband, Jim, was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. Upon
return from their service in Alaska, Jim and Shirley spent the rest of their
lives with family and friends in Knoxville, Iowa. Shirley was in Jim’s words,
the strength and support for his long time career as Mayor and high school
Counselor in Knoxville.
Shirley worked in Knoxville in interior design, drafting services
for a variety of companies, and for the city assessor’s office. She also
devoted much of her time in service to her community. Shirley was involved for
years in PEO, and served a term as their President. She held positions on a
variety of Boards, such as the Knoxville Library Board, the Community Chest,
and the Methodist Church Board. Shirley was on the board of Helping Hands, and
worked for that organization as a volunteer for many years, distributing food
to those in need.
The Celebration of Life for Shirley Bell will be held at the New
Covenant Baptist Church at 1510 Madison Street in Knoxville, Monday November 6, at 11 a.m. Pastor Craig Bex
will be conducting the services.

Charlie died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home. Charlie was
born June 19, 1953, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Lee Roy Thomas and Ivory Inez (Blankenship) Thomas. On May 20, 1995, Charlie was
united in marriage to Joyce Louise Blaesing Hollingsworth in Davenport. Charlie
was an avid Tennessee Volunteers football fan, Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan and
a NASCAR fan. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. Charlie was an
enthusiastic supporter of his stepsons' sports activities at the L&M High
School.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, Fruitland; stepsons, Isaac
Hollingsworth and Jacob Hollingsworth, both of Fruitland; his parents, Roy
Thomas, Knoxville, Tenn., and Ivory Thomas, Muscatine; a sister, Marilyn
Hilton, and husband, Jack, Sevierville, Tenn.; brothers, Ed Thomas, and wife,
Sandy, Muscatine, and J.R. Thomas, and wife, Regina, Andalusia, Ill.;

Janet was born June 5, 1932, the daughter of Robert and Iota (Troxel) Marshall. On December 21, 1948, she was united in
marriage to Donald Howard, Sr. in Iowa City, Iowa. She later married Herbert
Howard on August 23, 1997 in Fruitland, Iowa. She attended the Fruitland
Baptist Church where she belonged to the Womens
Mission. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, collecting dolls, dishes and tea pots
and most of all spending time with her family.
Janet will be deeply missed by her husband; Herbert; her children,
Donald Howard, Jr. of Letts, Kristy (Howard) Kerr of Muscatine, Steven Howard
and his wife, Laurie of Davenport and Lori (Howard) Lindner and her husband,
Doug of Solon; her step-daughter, Trina Lemaster and
her husband, John of Belle Plaine; two brothers,
James Marshall and his wife, Pat of Muscatine, and Ron Marshall and his wife,
Kathy of Ankeny; one sister Sherry Baumgartner and her husband, Cecil of
California; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband,
Donald; three sons, David, Roger and James; one daughter, Linda
Blankenship; and two brothers,
Ed Marshall and Robert Marshall, Jr.

Services for Edith B. Brown, Ottumwa, will be 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at Alexander-Johnson Funeral Home, Ottumwa. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001,
at Ridgewood Nursing Center.
She was employed as a cook at American Homofinding
Association and later as a seamstress at St. Joseph's Hospital. Edith Blankenship was born July 16, 1912, in rural Davis
County, Iowa. She married Robert Morris in Ottumwa. She married Stanley Brown
in 1960 in Burlington. He died in 1980.
Survivors include daughters, Norma Stevens, Bloomfield, Iowa, and
Carol Oetken, Davenport; a stepson, Beryle Brown, Walford, Iowa; nine
grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a
brother, David Blankenship, Bloomfield.
