Morning Tribune (ID) -
November 7, 2004,
Surrounded by family members, Hazel Pearl Sommer Nutt, 84, departed
this earthly life for the risen life of her Lord on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004. She
was a resident of Capitol Care Center in Boise. Born Jan. 8, 1920, to Otto and
Alice Nichols Hale in Brewster, Kan., Hazel was the oldest daughter of 10
children. She grew up in western Kansas and Goodman, Mo.
As a young woman, she moved to Santa Monica, Calif., where she met
another Midwesterner, William (Bill) Milton Sommer. They were married Nov. 19,
1941. To their union were born three sons and one daughter. Hazel and Bill
lived in Kansas City, Mo., until 1974, when they retired in Sandpoint. During
her Kansas City years, Hazel raised her own children, was a welcoming presence
to neighborhood children, worked at various part-time jobs, loved gardening,
and was an active member of the North Kansas City Assembly of God Church.
After her husband's death in 1986, Hazel moved to Lewiston to be
near her daughter and son-in-law. During this time she was a loving caregiver
for her first great-grandchild. Hazel was a faithful member of the Episcopal
Church of the Nativity. She also was active in Rebekah Lodge and the Lewiston
senior meal site program. At one of the meal sites, Hazel met Frank Earl Nutt.
They became friends and were married at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in
Lewiston May 19, 1990. Hazel and Frank enjoyed six years together at Frank's
home in Kamiah. They took active roles in the Kamiah Assembly of God Church,
Rebekah Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Hazel cared for Frank until his
death in October 1996. Having lost two husbands, Hazel spent the rest of her
days with family and friends in central Oregon, Lewiston and more recently in
Boise. Her cheerfulness, zest for life and her exceptional Christian faith
never wavered, despite many health challenges.
Hazel leaves her children and their spouses, Milton Steven Sommer,
Willa Ruth and Larry Harrelson, David Lee and Sally Blankenship and David Joseph Otto Sommer. She is
survived by eight grandchildren, Michelle Bristow, Stephanie Stephens,
Christina Lasswell, Todd Harrelson, John Harrelson,

Edward Louis Kubitza, 90, of White Bird,
died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at home of natural causes. Ed was born April 20,
1917, to Frank and Susan Wieshala-Kubitza at their
homestead in Coburg, Mont. He grew up in Coburg, where his father worked for
the Great Northern Railroad. He attended school in Coburg through the eighth
grade. He then attended high school in Glasgow, Mont., graduating in 1935. He
returned to Coburg, where he and his brother Sam took over the farm from his
parents. They farmed over 1,200 acres and made deals with the American Indians
across the Milk River Valley to make ends meet. He then began raising potatoes
and alfalfa and was soon farming more than 12,000 acres, mostly alfalfa.
He married Mary Ellen McCracken Aug. 14, 1946, at Turner, Mont.
They farmed and ranched in the Savoy-Coburg area, east of Harlem, Mont. They
left Montana and relocated to Grangeville in 1969, where they owned and
operated a Coast to Coast hardware store. They got their two youngest through

in Nampa until 2002, when he married a 30 year acquaintance, Mardell Blankenship of White Bird. He moved to White Bird, where he has resided
with Mardell until his passing. As a young man Ed
experienced the hardships of the Great Depression, which made him appreciate
what he had and instilled an untouchable work ethic. He was most resourceful,
not believing in wastefulness, but always willing to help others. Ed had a very
good reputation everywhere he went and made many friends throughout the years,
from the American Indians of the Assiniboine Reservation to business partners
and acquaintances made later in life. He was very kind, a true gentleman,
loving and devoted husband, father, son, uncle, and friend. If he gave you his
word and a handshake, it was gold. He will be greatly missed by all who knew
him.

Earl W. Bowse Jr. joined his beloved wife
Clarice in heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, running into her arms, those of
God, and reuniting with family and friends who have gone before us. Dad was
born Nov. 27, 1921, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Earl W. Sr. and Roxanna Bowse. Dad worked in shipyards in Vancouver, Wash., as a
young man, eventually going to work for Potlatch mill until his retirement. Dad
was particularly proud of his service in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He
joined at age 15, working at Lake Chatcolet, the
Headquarters/Pierce area and French Creek near Riggins, assisting in fighting
fires, building roads and parks, sending his paycheck home to his parents.
Dad married our mother, Clarice, in 1968, joining four teenage
children, two of which were challenged, one rebellious, and a stubborn daughter
- need we say more! He accepted us immediately as his own and treated us as
such. We became his children as he became our dad. He loved us unconditionally;
we loved him immeasurably. Dad was always there for us. He was generous beyond
measure, as attested in his everyday actions. He was a sweet, kind, loving and
gentle soul. He truly blessed our lives and we will always be grateful he chose
our mother and us as his family. He never let his deafness stand in his way of
living life to its fullest. Dad will always be remembered as a loving son,
brother, husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, and will always be
cherished in our lives. Dad loved to fish, taking his grandson as a small child
to Mann Lake whenever the opportunity arose. He also enjoyed his Harley and
belonged to the Banana Belt Cruisers organization as a young man. Dad loved
telling the story of coming to Idaho during the Great Depression, his dad
making a "seat" for his dog Pal, and Pal running alongside the car
when it went uphill because the car went so slow. This always gave him a huge
smile. Dad always said he wouldn't say goodbye; that was too permanent, so he'd
only wave and say "so long."
Dad was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters Capitola,
Ida May, Lois and Vera; brothers Fred, Leo and Glen: and son Robert E. Munck Sr.
Dad is survived by stepsons Richard and Larry Munck
of Lewiston; stepdaughter Diana and Steve Lee of Clarkston; grandchildren Ray and Dana
Blankenship of Lewiston, Traci
and Mike Sanderson of Palouse, and Robert Munck Jr.
of Pullman; four great-grandchildren, Brittney and Rayder Blankenship and Cole and Caden Sanderson; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston, with interment at Normal
Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Dad, until we
see you again, we miss you and love you immensely. So long
...
