Dr. Ruth E. Burrows, 73, who had retired from her medical practices
in Evanston and Aurora, died Jan. 27 in her Chicago home after a long illness.
Dr. Burrows, who was born in Alton, Ill., was a graduate of Elmhurst College
and received her medical degree in 1951 from Women's Medical College in
Philadelphia.
She practiced medicine in Evanston and Aurora in the 1960s and was
the physician in residence at Sacred Heart Convent in Lisle in 1970. She was a
specialist in diabetes who authored articles that appeared in the New England
Journal of Medicine and the Illinois Medical Journal.
She is survived by two sisters, Rebe Blankenship
and Jean Schumacher, and her companion, Helen Glenn. A memorial service will be
held at 3 p.m. Sunday in United Church of Hyde Park, 1448 E. 53rd St

Paul Dale Bruce, 47, of Elk Grove, Ill., formerly of Central City,
died Sunday, July 29, 1990, at a North Platte, Neb., hospital. He was born in
Muhlenberg County and was a factory worker.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Bruce; three sons, Dale, Tony and
Terry Bruce, all of Elk Grove; two grandchildren; his mother, Naomi Ruth Bruce
of Greenville; three brothers, Raymond Bruce of Texas, Michael Bruce and Billy
Neal Bruce, both of Illinois; and four sisters, Doris Piper of Greenville,
Patsy Leach of Central City, Linda Sosa of Illinois, and Sandra Blankenship of Cicero, Ill.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City.
Burial in Highway Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.

She was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Russell Springs, Ky., a daughter of Marvin and Annie Hale
Blankenship. She married Floyd
R. Shoop Dec. 10, 1941, in Troy, Mo. He died June 8, 1969.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Vollmer, rural Cornell, and
Connie McDugle, Pontiac; six grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; her mother, Pontiac; two brothers, James Blankenship , Pontiac and Charles Blankenship , 608 E. Locust St., Bloomington; and
three sisters, Dorothy Miller, Chenoa; Virginia Morrissey, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and Jean Stenger, Ogden, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her father and two sisters. Mrs. Shoop
was educated in Chenoa schools. She was a group leader with Stanley Home Products
for 35 years and was a part-time receptionist at Saint James Hospital. She was
a member of the First United Methodist Church, its Senior Fellowship, American
Association of Retired Persons and Esmen Sunshine

E. Blankenship, 79, of Atlanta
will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Quiram Funeral Home,
Atlanta. The Rev. Norman Goodman will officiate. Burial will be in Atlanta
Cemetery.
Mr. Blankenship died at 3:43 p.m. Monday (Sept. 23, 1991) at his
home. He was born March 24, 1912, in Greensburg, Ky., the son of Preston and
Nora Tarter Blankenship.
He married M. Agnes Noble May 22, 1937, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Nancy Grossmann, Normal; and Mary Sunday and Margaret Blankenship, both of Atlanta; one son, William, Atlanta; three brothers, Lindsey and Claude, both of
Atlanta; and Omar, Marshall; eight grandchildren; two step grandsons;
and seven great-grandsons.
One sister preceded him in death.
He attended Atlanta schools and was a baker, owning and operating
the Pastry Shop Bakeries in Lincoln and Fairbury. Mr. Blankenship designed and constructed many homes in
Atlanta and did woodcrafting as a hobby. He made
furniture, antique replicas and many clocks.

grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Mrs.
Galloway had been a waitress at the Hotel Lincoln. She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, Lincoln.

in 1970.
Surviving are one son, Robert Wesley Duncan, Saint Joseph; two
daughters, Norma Collins, and Ilene Blankenship, both
of Decatur; one sister, Myrtle Shrader, Lake Fork;
nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Shelton Inn for 17 years and a member of First Christian Church. She married
Joseph A. Wing on April 28, 1937.
Surviving are her husband; daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Judith) Williams
of Decatur; Mrs. Ralph (Marsha Kay) Cox of Mount Zion; sons, Joseph Wing Jr. of

Marshall, died at 2:22 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 1999 in the Decatur Memorial
Hospital in Decatur. Kathy Axe was born September 27, 1953 at Terre Haute, the
daughter of Robert Siverly and Alberta
Blankenship Siverly.
Mrs. Axe married John Axe on August 23,
1975 at the Marshall Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall. She was a homemaker
and a Longaberger Basket Consultant. She was a member of the Marshall
Missionary Baptist Church and was a 1971 Marshall High School graduate. She was
also active in the support of the soccer, football and wrestling programs where
her sons participated.
Survivors include her husband, John, of
Decatur: two sons, Robert (Bobby) Axe and Timothy David Axe, both of Decatur;
her parents of Marshall; one sister and brother-in- law, Connie and Jim Turner
of Terre Haute; one brother, Steve Siverly of Terre
Haute; her grandmother, Kathryn Blankenship of Marshall; her mother-in-law
and father-in-law, Margaret and Robert E. Axe of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law
and sister-in-law, Emma and Vernon Harlen of Terre

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in
Graceland/ Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial
will be in Graceland Cemetery
He was a retired millwright from Archer
Daniels Midland Co. and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He married Lois E. Elam in Vandalia on
Sept. 7, 1937. She preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1991.
Surviving are his son, Lonnie Blankenship and wife Judy of
Decatur; daughters, Kay Goad and husband Richard of Lincoln; Darlene Glover and

Everett Sancken, 80, of Chenoa, a retired
farmer from the Saunemin area, died at 9:10 p.m.
Wednesday (Nov. 28, 1990) at his home. He had been ill three months. His
funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac,
the Rev. Vaughn Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in
Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the
funeral home.
Mr. Sancken was born Sept. 16, 1910, at Saunemin, a son of Albert and Carrie Peck Sancken. He married Kathryn Colvin July 19, 1931, at
Valparaiso, Ind. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Lee, Mundelein; one daughter, June
Cunningham, Pontiac; six brothers, Louis, Pontiac; Alva, Kingman, Ariz.; Fred, Cullom; Harold, Fairbury; Ernest, Eureka; and Raymond, Saunemin; six sisters, Edith Thompson, Dwight; Rosetta
Fellers, Cullom; Esther Gregory, Decatur; Eunice
Domino, Oak Lawn; Carol
Blankenship , Mount Zion; and
Lois Carlyle, Mattoon; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
One grandson preceded him in death.
Mr. Sancken, who was educated at Maple
Grove School in Saunemin Township and at Saunemin High School, farmed in the Saunemin
area until he retired in 1977. He served two years in the Army during World War
II, one year in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Sancken was
a member of the Pontiac American Legion Post. He also was a member of St.
John's Lutheran Church, Cullom.

Donald Lee Keen 57, of Springfield, died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday (10Jan1990) at his residence. He was born Aug. 7,
1932, in Danvers, the son of Joseph and Eva Mae Truchon
Keen. He formerly was employed as an orderly at Oak Terrace Nursing Home in
Springfield.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna Blankenship
of Bloomington, Rhonda Wemberly of Clinton and
Marlene Long of Bloomington; four sons, Jerry of West Lafayette, Ind., Gary of
Lexington, Terry of Bloomington and Michael of Sarasota, Fla.; three sisters,
Monica Jenkins of Bloomington, Patricia DiPretrantonio
of Normal and Betty Nichols of Bloomington; one brother, David of Manteno; and
11 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Park Hill
Cemetery at Bloomington, with the Rev. Kenneth Zinn officiating. Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of
arrangements.

Rollin J. Candiff Jr. 67, of Springfield
died Saturday (10Feb1990) at the V.A. Hospital in Danville. He was
born Aug. 10, 1922, in Pleasant Plains.
A resident of Springfield most of his life, Mr. Candiff
was employed by Teamster Local 916 as a truck driver for Builders Supply,
retiring in 1982. He was a member of AARP, U.S. Marine Corps during World War
II and U.S. Marine Corps reserves through 1952.
Surviving are his mother, Margaret Mell of Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Lela Blankenship of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Edna M. Grady,
Mrs. Marjorie Painter, and Mrs. Lillian Towner, all of Springfield; one
brother, Lester Neer of Iowa; several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Staab
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman
officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Zelma G. Theobald 87, of Springfield, formerly of Williamsville,
died at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born May
28, 1903, in Mechanicsburg, the daughter of Roy and Ella P. Blankenship Gammon.
She married Dean Theobald and he preceded her in death in 1988.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Chester Gammon, and one sister,
Maggie Gammon. Mrs. Theobald was a member of Buffalo Christian Church, serving
as secretary, treasurer and a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years.
Surviving are two stepsons, Duane Theobald of Springfield and Mel
Theobald of Buffalo; and one sister, Grace Gammon of Auburn.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fullenwider-Park Funeral
Home, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Bill Shanle
officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Williamsville.

Mary Elizabeth Standish 71, of Springfield died at 10:45 a.m.
Monday at her residence. She was born May 26, 1919, in Springfield, the
daughter of Edward and Mary Burns Rodems.
She married William F. Standish Sr. in 1938. He preceded her in
death in 1986. Also preceding her in death were one grandson and one sister, Dorothy Blankenship.
A lifelong resident of
Springfield, Mrs. Standish was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Senior
Citizens of Sangamon County.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Mary) Bitschenauer, Mrs. George (Eileen) Moore, Terry Standish
and Mrs. Tim (Pat) Padget, all of Springfield, and
Mrs. Jean Gantt of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, William M. of Springfield, James
of Dawson and Michael of Deltona, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Rita Ann) Mammann
of Springfield; one brother, Roy Rodems of Divernon;
two nieces; and eight nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Staab
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Victor Kaltenbach
officiating. Burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Clifford J. Blankenship, 83, formerly of Washington died at 1:50 P.M. Monday, Aug. 25,
1997, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka. Born March 4, 1914, in Peoria to Lester and Grace Hasty Blankenship, he
married Margaret J. Carter on April 17, 1937, in Peoria. She died in December
1977.
Five sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. John (Annabelle) Smay of Washington; one brother, David of Germantown; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He retired in 1977 as a baker for
Butternut Bakery in Peoria.
Private graveside services will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday at
Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. The Rev. Jeff Browning will officiate. There
will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Mason-White Funeral Home in
Washington.
