78, a resident of Countryside Healthcare, died Friday in Ball Memorial
Hospital. She was born in Yorktown and moved to Oklahoma, Ark., in 1973. She
later moved to San Antonio, Tex., and returned to Muncie six months ago to live
with her son.
Survivors include her husband,
Nathen Blankenship, Oklahoma, Ark.; four sons, Nathan L.
Blankenship (wife-Deanna),
Muncie, David Blankenship (wife-Katheryn), Fayetteville, N.C., Fred
Thompson (wife-Irene), Muncie, and Buddy Wayne Tobler, Ohio; three daughters, Chrystal (Nonie) Daugherty,
Muncie, Kathy Blankenship,
Biloxi, Miss., and Ruby Juanita Ashcraft (husband-David), San Antonio, Texas; a
brother, Bud Storms, Muncie; a sister, Ella Mae Rector (husband-Sam), Florida;
a nephew, Forest Storms (wife-Rosie), Muncie; 15 grandchildren; 25
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Larry Joe Blankenship, died in 1970; a sister, Martha Luttrell,
died in 1981; and a brother, Ralph Storms, died in 1988.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel,
with Rev. Denny Helton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery,
southeast of Muncie.

Elmer E. “Gene” Blankenship, 67, Lima, Ohio, formerly of Fulton County, died at 7:50 p.m.
Monday at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. He was born in Iaeger, W.Va. to Conley and Carrie L.
Wells Blankenship. On Sept. 6, 1968 he married Jane A.
Saegers who survives. He worked as a laborer
for Waste Management Company, Lima, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army in the
Korean War and World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post
96 and honorary member of Allen County VanGuard
Security.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Kathy Kugler, Peculiar, Mo.; seven sons, Elmer E. Blankenship, Jr., Prestonsburg, Ky.; John Blankenship and Raymond Blankenship,
both of Reno, Nev.; Ronald Klett, at home; Joseph Klett, Robert Klett, Michael Klett, all of Lima, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; a sister,
Mrs. Gleason (Lorain) Keaton, Iaeger, W.Va.; and a
brother, Billy Ray Blankenship, Iaeger, W.Va. Preceding in
death were two sisters, Elizabeth Hopkins and Beatrice Blankenship;
and a brother, Conley

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wayne Street Chapel of
Chiles and Sons-Laman Inc., Lima, Ohio, with the Rev.

homemaker and member of Vanguard; Allen County Citizens Band Radio Club.

Michael and Kathy Klett, all of Lima, Ohio; a
daughter, Kathy Kubler, Peculiar, Mo.; a brother,

First Sgt. Fred L. Fobes Jr., 56, Rural Route 4, Peru, died at 2:05 a.m.
Sunday at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born in Marion County to
Fred L. Sr. and June M. Duffy Fobes. On Aug.
26, 1962 he married Joyce A.
Blankenship, who
survives. He was an Indiana State Police Trooper and a Marion County
Sheriff’s Department Deputy. He joined the Indiaa
State Poice Sept. 1, 1962 and was promoted to First
Sgt. in 1988. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Masonic Lodge and
Indiana State Police Alliance. He was a graduate of Broad Ripple High
School, Indianapolis; Indiana University, Bloomington; and Southern Police
Institute, Louisville, Ky. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving are one daughter, June A. Fobes,
Chicago, Ill.; one son, Lt. Karl R. Fobes, U.S. Air
Force, Vandenburg Air Force Base, Lompoc, Calif.; one
brother, Gary Thrapp, Indianapolis; and two sisters,
Darlene Beasley, Indianapolis; and Gail Butcher, Gosport.
Preceding in death were his parents.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Bible Baptist Church of Peru (East edge of Peru), with the Indiana State Poice Chaplains officiatng. Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Tuesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru.

He had lived in the Warsaw area for 20 years.

Three Story Hill Road resident Richard R. Phillabaum
died Wednesday, November 18, 1998, at Indiana University Medical Center in
Indianapolis. He was 49. Mr. Phillabaum was born
January 18, 1949, in Bedford to Raymond Joseph and Margaret Blankenship Phillabaum. His
mother survives in Punta Gorda, Florida. He and Nancy
Temples were married May 23, 1981, in Bloomington. She survives in Brown County.
He was graduated from Punahou School in
Hawaii in 1967. Mr. Phillabaum earned a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University in 1973. He
also graduated with honors in English Literature. Mr. Phillabaum
had majored in film criticism. He enrolled at Citadel University in Charleston,
South Carolina in 1975, majoring in educational statistics before transferring
to Indiana University, where he received a master of science in education
degree in 1977. Mr. Phillabaum had worked as
Multi-Media Production Coordinator for the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI
for 21 years. He was also an instructor at the Free University of Indianapolis
during 1982-83. An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Phillabaum
was a member of Quails Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited. He also enjoyed working with
his bird dogs and in photography.
Other survivors include a son, Kyle Phillabaum,
at home; and a step-daughter, Kari Kelly of Grenada Hills, California. Mr. Phillabaum was preceded in death by his father.
A service was conducted Tuesday, November 24, at Meredith-Clark
Funeral Home in Morgantown. The remains were to be cremated.

D. Elston Beal, the father of Nashville
resident Joe G. Beal, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at his home in Indianapolis.
He was 83. Mr. Beal was born March 3, 1916, in Tennessee to James M. and Amy Clairdy Beal. He was married to Allie Mae Blankenship. She survives in Marion County.
Mr. Beal had worked as a welder/pipefitter at Eli Lilly and Company
in Indianapolis for 34 years, retiring in 1978. He had been a member of
Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenwood and Prospect Masonic Lodge.
Other survivors include a daughter, Vivian F. Miller of California;
two sisters, Lola Mae Neal and Christine Walker, both of Kentucky; two
brothers, James L. Beal and Roy R. Beal, both of Indianapolis; four
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A service was conducted Thursday afternoon, May 27, at G.H.
Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis. Burial was in Johnson
County’s Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Larry Lee Blankenship, 55, of Windermere died June 20. Born in Crawfordsville, Ind., he
moved to the area in 1949. He was owner of an insurance agency. He was past
exalted ruler for the Elks Club, Kissimmee, 32nd degree Mason, and member of
the Rio Pinar Country Club, Orlando.
Survivors include his sons,
Scott, Kissimmee, Craig; mother, Ruby Blankenship, both of Orlando; and sister,
Paula Du Priest, Melbourne.
Services were held June 24 from Fisk Funeral Home chapel with the
Rev. Fred Toms officiating. Interment was in Osceola Memory Gardens, Kissimmee.
Fisk Funeral Home, St. Cloud, was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Blankenship,
68, Route 2, Attica, (Riverside), died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, at
3:10 a.m. June 4, 1992, having been hospitalized for three weeks. He was born
at Jamestown, Kentucky, May 19, 1924, the son of Len (sic) Jesse and Bertie Antle
Blankenship.
He had formerly lived in Jamestown, Kentucky, had lived in
Independence, Attica, and Riverside most of his life. He had attended school at
Jamestown, had formerly worked at Harrison Steel at Attica, retiring in 1969.
He had later owned and operated the
grocery store in Independence, known as Blankenship Grocery.
He was married October 24, 1944, at Attica, to Virginia Waneta Solomon. She survives.
Surviving, besides the wife, are: a son, Lynn Jesse
Blankenship, Route 2, Attica;
four daughters, Virginia Jane Dyer, Route 2, Attica; Mrs. Peter (Alice Gayle) Meyer, West Lafayette; Mrs. Michael (Terry Ann) Riley, Lafayette; Mrs. John (Marilyn Kay) Kane,
Route 2, Attica; two sisters, Candis Isenhart,
Muncie; Pearl Mason, Albany; three brothers, Nathan
Blankenship, Okolona,
Arkansas; Benny Blankenship, Hoopeston, Illinois; Lonnie Blankenship, Albany; 13 grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.
Funeral services were held at the Maus
Funeral Home, Attica, at 10:30 a.m. Monday with the Rev. William C. Kehlhofer officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery,
Attica.

Hospital. She was born July 26, 1912 at Pie, W.V. to Leander and Emma (Hatfield) Blankenship. She
married Jesse L. Miller June 20, 1929, and he preceded her in death Sept. 8,
1977. She was a homemaker, and a member
of the Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God of Silver Lake.
Survivors include five sons - Carl R. and Arthur L. Miller, both of
North Manchester, Evert J. and Charles S. Miller, both of Charlotte, N.C., and
George F. Miller of Lawton, OK; two daughters - Mrs. Paul (Stella) Burgess of
Charleston, W.V. and Mrs. Chester (Janice) Chafin of
Lenore, W.V.; brothers Willie Lee Blankenship of
Chicago, IL and Joe Blankenship of Gilbert, W.V.; and sisters Mrs. Earl (Hazel) Gibson of Wharncliffe, W.V. and Patsy Oberle of Highpoint, N.C.; 49
grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Two sons, a daughter, seven brothers
and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with the Rev.
Frank Whitaker officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn
Cemetery, N. Manchester.

June 20, 1942 at Thomas, KY to Alie and Dulcie May (Roop) Griffey, and married Alberta
Clark Oct. 1, 1960 in Pikeville, KY. He worked 31 years for Gen Corp in Wabash
and BTR in Peru, retiring in January 1998. He was a member of Christian
Heritage Church of Wabash.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta of Roann;
two sons - Randell Griffey of Roann and Rick Griffey
of Honolulu, HI; seven brothers - Henry Griffey of Tampa, FL, Paul Griffey and
George Griffey, both of Prestonsburg, KY, Ester Griffey of North Manchester,
Elmer Griffey, Dean Smith, and Moses Griffey, all of Wabash; and three sisters
- Ruth Blankenship of Pikeville, KY, and Marie Skeens and Martha Jane Murphy, both of Prestonsburg, KY;
and five grandchildren. A grandson and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, June 1, 1998 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel in Wabash, with
the Rev. Tim Prater officiating. Burial was in Roann
Community Cemetery, located at Roann, IN.

John Allen Jennens, 81, of 201 Southeast Pkwy., Richmond, Ind.,
died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Heritage Regency after a lengthy illness. Born
March 14, 1916, in Muncie, Ind., he was the son of John Allen and Ethel
(Thomas) Jennens, and had lived in Richmond since 1980, moving from Brookville,
Ohio. He was a retired employee of Lau Brothers, Inc. (Phillips Industries) in
Dayton, and was former treasurer of General Tire & Rubber Company in
Wabash, Ind. He was a 1933 graduate of Muncie Central High School and a 1984
graduate of Indiana University with a degree in public and environmental
affairs. Mr. Jennens was a member of West Richmond Friends Meeting in Richmond,
Ind. He was treasurer of Indiana Yearly Meeting and a member of Friends United
Meeting. He was a board member of the Society Preservation and Use of
Resources, and was a trustee of Earlham College for 10 years. He was a former
board member of Friends Fellowship Community, had served on the Brookville town
council, and had served as a board member of Brookhaven Nursing facility in Brookville.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen A. Blake Jennens, whom he
married March 8, 1980; one son, John A. Jennens of Toledo; three daughters,
Jane Silven of Dallas, Texas, Julie Schermerhorn of Madras, India.,
and Jill Blankenship of Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving are two
stepdaughters, Roberta Gongwer of Acton, Mass., and Ruthanna Moore of Tipp City; four grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a half brother, Davy L. Winkle of Columbus; a half sister, Berdina Grove of
Parker City, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jewel
Gibson.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 18, at Doan & Mills
Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., with Josh Brown and Tom Mullen officiating.
Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery at Muncie, Ind. There was no public calling.

Albert Lee Hobbs, 76, died Friday, June 13, 1997, at Leisure Lodge Nursing
home in Monticello. He was born June 28,
1920, in Bradley County to the late James Clyde and Ethel Blankenship Hobbs. He
was a retired Burlington supervisor, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a
member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Gregory Hobbs of Monticello;
one son, Danny Hobbs of Clarksville, Tenn.; one stepson, Bobby Dye of Little
Rock; four brothers, James Hobbs of Fairview Heights, Ill., Tommy Hobbs of Pine
Bluff, Lonnie Hobbs of Dermott and Billy Hobbs of Monticello; one step-brother,
Arthur Piper of North Little Rock; one stepsister, Evelyn Peterson of
Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday June 14 at 2 p.m. in the
Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel by the Revs. R. V. White
and Gene Gregory. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Jerry Gregory, Bill Barnes, Harold Palmer, Icon Sipes,Rusty Densmore, and Leonard
Polk.
