+2008, Marion, Grant Co., IN, Obituary

http://www.sturgisjournal.com/obituaries/x282372641/Jewel-G-Roth

Jewel G. Roth, age 79, of Marion, Ind., died on Thursday evening, Oct. 9, 2008, at the Marion Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born in South Lebanon, Ohio, on Feb. 17, 1929, a daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Gildea) BlankenshipJewel graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1947. While in high school she worked for the Bowe’s Ice Cream Shop.  After graduation, she was employed by the Sinclair Oil Company as a stenographer.  Once Jewel started a family she took on the role of a loving homemaker.

As a young teenager, Jewel’s family moved to Marion, where she became very involved in the First Church of the Nazarene.  It was there that she met Lawrence E. Roth and where they were married on June 4, 1949.  They shared 46 years before his passing on August 3, 1995. Jewel was devoted to serving her Lord and her church, active in the Missionary Society, teaching Sunday school for more than 30 years and singing in the church choir.  Jewel and Lawrence spent several mission trips in Central America and the Caribbean helping to build churches and orphanages.

Traveling across the United States, Jewel and her husband were able to visit every state except Hawaii, as well as much of Canada. She delighted in growing bumper crops and vegetables in her garden, canning the produce, and sharing with friends and neighbors. Being crafty with a needle, Jewel made clothes for the family and was a master of cross stitching.  Lawrence always said proudly, “Jewel’s particular,” but that was just fine by him because he knew things would be done right.

Jewel will be missed by her daughter, Kathleen (Dwight) Williams of Marion and their children, Anne (Ben) Lloyd of Columbus and Laura Williams of Bloomington, Ind.; her daughter, Beth (Gary) Bond of Sturgis, Mich., and their children, Julie (Chris) Martin of Washington, D.C., and Joy (Steve Lung) Bond of Florida; her son, Dale E. Roth of Marion, and his children, Aaron (Leah) Roth of Georgia and Ashley (Tim) White of Columbus; four brothers, Patrick, Charles (Patricia), Carroll, and David Blankenship, all of Marion; her sister, June (Floyd) Webb of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Marge Jones and Jeanne Martin, and a brother-in-law, Fred Roth, all of Marion.

Services celebrating her life were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Marion, with Rev. Riley Powell officiating. Burial followed in Green Camp Cemetery.
