Edith M. (Blackledge) Blankenship, 97, formerly of Webster, died peacefully Monday morning, August 20, 2007, at the home her son, William Blankenship, in Leominster, Mass. Edith was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on April 28, 1910, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Blackledge.

Her family moved to Alabama in 1920 and she moved back to Indiana four years later to eventually graduate from Tech HS in Indianapolis. Edith started college at Indiana University (where she met her husband to be in her English class). She fell in love with nursing after an unfortunate accident which caused her to be hospitalized. She graduated three years later from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis. She then became a registered nurse in Detroit and Benton Harbor Michigan for the next three years.

She became the wife of Rev, Perry M. Blankenship June 1936 (deceased April, 2001). During her husband's career as a priest she met many people who would continue to be their friends for life. Perry and Edith started their lives together in Tazwell, Va., where he started as a circuit riding preacher. They then proceeded to move to churches in Chester, Peabody, Mass., Toledo, Ohio, Fostoria, Ohio, Port Clinton, Ohio, and finally to Dover where Perry and Edith both retired - Perry from St. Thomas Episcopal Church and Edith from Dover Wentworth Hospital. Upon retirement they moved up the road to Rochester for the next 20 years. Edith continued her nursing on a part time basis at the Wentworth Home while in Rochester.

Perry and Edith enjoyed the water and owned a camp on Milton Pond for 30 years. They enjoyed travel and spent 13 winters in Florida. Edith loved to take pictures and she also loved to be in them as well.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Penny Blankenship of Leominster, Mass.; a daughter, Jeanne Blinkinsop of Farmington and a son-in-law, Vance Woodworth of Rye; Edith's other daughter Marjorie (Blankenship) Woodworth died in January, 2001.

She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, ranging in ages 31 to two-weeks-old.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dover.
