Mersdorf, Roy C. of Bay City, Michigan. Mr. Mersdorf passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Brian's House at the Age of 86 years. The son of the late Charles and Lillian (Jacobs) Mersdorf was born July 4, 1925 in Bay City.

He worked for many years at Bay Refinery and retired from Dow Ziploc Bags. He had a great love for his family; he played on a pool league, enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and camping. Mr. Mersdorf served in the U.S. Army with Headquarters Battery 78th Armored Field Artillery Battalion during WWII with his twin brother Ray. They were both tank drivers in Italy.

He is survived by six children: Linda (David) Blankenship of Bay City, Elizabeth "Becky" (Dennis) Malusi of Cedar Springs, MI, Theresa (Ron) Perkins of Canyon Lake, TX, Ellen Switala of Bay City, Dwight "Ike" Mersdorf of Canyon Lake, TX and Virginia"Gina" (John) Syring of Bay City; one daughter-in-in-law, Alicia Mersdorf; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his twin brother with whom he was inseparable, Ray Mersdorf.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Virginia S. Richardson whom he married October 14, 1946. She passed away July 2, 2008; one son, Roy Edward Mersdorf, who passed away March 15, 2011; his sisters and brothers: Argetta Cousins, Clifford and Charles Mersdorf and Eleanor Barteau; his sister-in-law, Cecelia Mersdorf.

The funeral service took place Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating was Rev. Fr. Craig Albrecht with interment following in Floral Gardens Cemetery followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council.

Mildred Jean of Kawkawlin, Michigan. Age 68 years, died February 14, 2011. She was born in Bay City on October 2, 1942 to the late Melvin G. and Elodia (Roupe) Peterson.

Survivors include four children: Dawn (Robert) Sachs, Eugene (Amy) Ballor Jr., Jeanette (Kenneth) Stoller and Douglas (Brenda) Ballor; eight grandchildren: Brandon (Kayla) Hitch, Autumn and Robert Sachs, Kourtni and Heather Stoller, Zachary and Cameron Ballor and Leatha (Tony) Smerdon; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin (Nita) Peterson and Kenneth (Carolyn) Peterson; a sister-in-law Evelyn Johnson and a special friend Joyce Blankenship.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Ballor, Sr. and three brothers: Robert, Donald and Roger Peterson.

Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church. Capt. Shirley Myers and Kenneth Peterson will officiate. Burial will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery.

Tristin J. Brazeau, Pinconning, Michigan Infant son of Jason and Kimberly (Blankenship) Brazeau passed away Friday August 24, 2012 at Covenant Health Care-Harrison. He was born on July 30, 2012 in Saginaw.

He is survived by his parents; a brother Jean-Gabriel Brazeau; a sister Jasmine Brazeau; grandparents Michael Brazeau, Alana and Dennis Beyer, Brenda Studer and Carl Blankeship and great grandmothers Blankenship and Taylor also many aunts and uncles and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am Wednesday August 29, 2012 at St. Michael's Church with Rev. Fr. George Serour presiding with inurnment at Sunset Valley Crematory.

Otherine "Billie" Horton, 92, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away early on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Orchard Grove Extended Care Centre in Benton Harbor.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, 1153 E. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor, with Pastor Roy Jeffrey and Harold Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Bridgman.

Billie was born on Nov. 12, 1918, in Judsonia, Ark., to William and Alpha May Cartwright. On April 22, 1946, she married William Horton and together they had six children. Billie enjoyed playing bingo, sewing and quilting in her leisure time. Most of all, Billie cherished time spent with her friends and family - particularly with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Billie is survived by her children, Sylvia (Jim) Blankenship of Bangor, Linda Copeland of Paragould, Ark., Thomas (Sherry) Horton of Watervliet and Luzette Stump of St. Joseph; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her husband, William; by her children, Craig and Patricia; and by her brothers and sisters.

Juanita N. (Gillham) Tanke, 84, of St. Joseph passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Royalton Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Judsonia, Ark., to the late Clayton C. and Cealie Mae (Head) Gillham.

On Feb. 8, 1947, Juanita married Robert Tanke at a ceremony in their pastor's home in Benton Harbor. A bookkeeper for many years, Juanita worked for Pyramid Oil Co., Roti Motors and Ace Hardware. Her hobbies included gardening and reading. Spending time with her beloved family was her greatest treasure.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Gillham; her mother, Cealie (Girlie) Fisher, and stepfather; her husband, Robert Tanke; a son, Robert E. Tanke; a daughter, Debra Tanke-Dupuie; a grandson, Daniel Blankenship; and two brothers, Forrest Lee Head and Clayton Gillham.

Juanita is survived by her son, Bruce (Beverly) Tanke of Benton Harbor; grandchildren: Robert (Sue) Tanke, Susan (Rob) Lausch, Daniel (Michelle) Knapp, Amanda Dupuie, and Jamie and Stephen Dupuie; great-grandchildren: Justin (Deborah) Blankenship, Kyle Blankenship, Samantha Blankenship and Ryan Knapp; and a great-great-grandson, Thomas.

In keeping with Juanita's wishes, a private family gathering will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens.

Judith Kathryn Wolfgang, age 62, went home to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo [Kalamazoo Co., MI]. She was born January 2, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Carl and Angeline (Bauer) Martin and a 1969 graduate of Beal City Schools.

She married Richard Dean Wolfgang on July 25, 1969 at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Rosebush. Judy worked for Farmers Insurance beginning in 1987 starting out in the mailroom and working her way up to the CT&I department, retiring in 2011. She enjoyed working, learning, and the time she spent with her coworkers and friends. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Lake Odessa. She loved going to church and helping out any way she could. In her free time she would be reading, knitting, crocheting, shopping, and spending time with her family whom she loved dearly. She had such a big heart and sweet spirit, always giving and helping whomever she could.

Judy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Richard Wolfgang of Woodland; children, Thomas James Wolfgang of Dorr, Tammy Jo (James) Halliwill of Delton, Terri Lynn Wolfgang of Lake Odessa, and Timothy Edward Wolfgang of Hastings; grandchildren, Ashley, Zach, Brooke, Kate, Austin, Liz, Andrew, Gwen, and Cody; great grandchildren, Alivia, Adelyn, and "Brooke's baby". She is also survived by sisters, Betty (Don) Russell and Sylvia (Howard) Boulis; sisters-in-law, Ruth Martin, Glenda Pumford, Linda Ryckman; brothers-inlaw, Alan Wolfgang and Larry (Deloras) Wolfgang.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Angeline Martin; twin brother, Thomas Martin; brother, Russell Martin; sisters, Joan Blankinship, Janet Flynn, and Patricia Sweet.

A funeral mass was held Friday, November 8, 2013.

M. Lynn Colon, 66, of Albion passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Allegiance Health Care while her family surrounded and cared for her. Lynn was born to the late Kelly J. Sr. and Nellie I. (Anthony) Young on November 14, 1947 in Kimble, West Virginia.

Efrain "Frank" Colon swept Lynn off of her feet and on August 5th, 1967 they wed and their love only continued to grow. In 1987 Lynn went back to school and received her diploma from Albion High School. Lynn enjoyed crafts, shopping, baking and traveling, especially to ladies conferences.  She had a deep faith in God and testified often of the many miracles God performed in her life.  Next to her love for God, Lynn was passionate about her family, and was an awesome homemaker.  She was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, and no one could spoil her granddaughters more than her.  Lynn's health declined for many years; however, her love for her family kept Lynn fighting.  She was an active member of Christ Apostolic Church for over 50 years. Lynn had a smile that could light up a room and could make any event a party.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Thurl "Sonny" Young and Kelly James Young.

She is survived by her husband Frank Colon of Albion; her two daughters, Scarlette (Rev. Douglas) Fleury of Battle Creek, Missy Colon of Albion, and one son Rocky Colon of Lady Lake, Florida . She is also survived by her three sisters; Syble Hackworth, Scarlet "Dickie" Blankenship both of Albion and Cathy (David) Elkins of Concord; one brother, Neal (Faye) Young of Olive Branch, Mississippi; two granddaughters Chantilly and Olivia Fleury both of Battle Creek; grandson Narciso Colon of Lady Lake, Florida and great grandson Armani Colon. Lynn opened her heart many years ago and adopted a daughter to her family, Tina (Gerald) Johnson of Battle Creek, as well as their daughter, Arianna, along with a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends whose lives are enriched from knowing her.

Services for Lynn will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Apostolic Church 503 N. Superior Street, Albion, Michigan. An interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

John Alvin Vandegriff, Sr., 90, of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System surrounded by his children. He was born April 16, 1920 in Bethel, OH the son of Alvin and Sarah (Daley) Vandegriff.

He married the late Virginia (Chingwa) Vandegriff on September 21, 1952 in Northville, MI. John served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years in addition to working other jobs like a night watchmen at Knappen-Milling to provide for his family. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force he worked and retired from Clark Equipment. He had been a member of a number of organizations including the Saladin Shriners, Scottish Rite Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons, 33 Degree Mason, Lodge 398, VFW, American Legion, and The Eagle's. John was also a member of the St. Jerome Parish. John loved tending to his plants, cooking, spending time with his family, and especially playing cards. For many years he looked forward to his bi-weekly meetings at the Knights of Pythians and made sure he was on there time.

John is survived by his children, Eileen (Duane Blankenship) Yeager, John (Linda) Vandegriff, Jr., Grant (Tammy) Vandegriff, and Laura Ure; he was especially proud of his grandchildren, Larry, Tony, John III, Sean, Alexis, Jenny, Samantha, Shalyn, and Alec; great granddaughter, Alaila; good friends, John Forney and Jo McClenney.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia; parents; grandson, Daniel Yeager; favorite son-in-law, Tim Ure; his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 9:00 A.M. at the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert L. Zuhl of First Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.

Robert R. Blankenship, age 62, died February 26, 2012, at the VA Medical Hospital in Battle Creek, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Elaine Blankenship. Robert attended Lakeview Schools until joining the Marines in 1969. He served in the 1st Marine Division in the artillery in Vietnam. Robert held various jobs throughout the years, one of his favorites was being a grounds person at Fort Custer National Cemetery

Robert is survived by a brother, Gary Blankenship; and sisters, Gail Myers and Jane Rouse; nine nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Services will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery on March 1, 2012 at 11:00.

Dallas Ray Blankenship, Sr. age 67 of Battle Creek, Michigan went to be with his Lord Tuesday afternoon November 26, 2013 at the Borgess Medical Center Emergency Room in Kalamazoo [Kalamazoo Co., MI]. He was born November 20, 1946 in McDowell, Kentucky son of the late Henry and Ruth (Gayheart) Blankenship.

On September 23, 1971 he married Patricia Fair in LaGrange, Indiana. Dallas was employed as a truck driver his entire working life, driving for several companies over the years until a work related accident caused him to no longer be able to drive his semi-truck. Dallas also owned and operated a wrecker service with his wife and later his children.

He attended the Green Chapel in Wolcottville, Indiana and he loved racing, hunting, telling stories and fishing with his grandsons. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife: Patricia; daughters: Theresa Brady of Auburn, Indiana, Lisa (Richard) Roth of Union City and Christina (Nathies) Williams Battle Creek; sons: Keith (Pam) Blankenship of LaGrange, Indiana, Ronnie (Melanie) Blankenship of Summerfield, Florida, Dale (Rose) Witham of Missouri and Dallas Blankenship, Jr. of Battle Creek; one brother: Rodney Blankenship; two sisters: Linda (Pete) Pierson and Lisa Prior; 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Rodney; one brother: Ronnie and granddaughter: Catherine.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI. Pastor Melvin Heinger of the Green Chapel will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Ontario Cemetery in Ontario, Indiana.

Thomas "Scott" Blankinship, 50, of Marshall, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 after a two year battle with lung cancer. Scott was born on February 10, 1964 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Joseph and Lynda (Fox) Blankinship.

Scott attended Howell High School and graduated with the Class of 1982. He went on to Michigan State University to earn his B. A. in Liberal Arts. Scott continued his education with Davenport College of Business, B.B.A. and with Central Michigan University in Educational Administration, M.A.

On October 5, 1997 he married Laurie Garvey in Williamston. They have three girls together who Scott adored with all of his heart as he felt for his wife. They all meant the world to him, he loved them more than anything else. Scott enjoyed golfing, fishing, skiing, watching college football (especially MSU), playing fantasy football, board games, coaching AYSO soccer in Marshall, photography, gazing at the Northern Lights, and especially Friday night movies at home with his girls! He was active in the Kiwanis when he lived in Leslie, and with the Marshall Exchange Club most recently. Scott was an inspiration. He was proud of his family, friends, his accomplishments, and also of his new historical home that he and his wife are in the process of restoring. Scott loved his job and was very passionate about being the Director of Business Operations for the Marshall Public Schools. His battle with cancer did not limit him in doing anything. In fact, he worked until he went into the Intensive Care Unit.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie of Marshall; daughters, Bethany Hannah, Andrea Joy, and Olivia Rose; mother, Lynda Blankinship of Ludington; siblings, Regan (Brian) Bullion, and Rachel (Curt) Andrews all of Howell; brother-in-law, Samuel Baldino of Marshall; nephews, David Blankinship , Devon Andrews, and Adam Andrews of Howell; grandniece, Karaline Blankinship of Howell; uncles, Danny (Jackie) Fox of Lincoln Park and Roger Fox of Culleoka, Tennessee; as well as several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bella Rae; father, Joseph; and brother, Joseph "Bo".

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Marshall, 200 W. Mansion Street. A Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 23, from 12 noon until 4 p.m., with lunch buffet at 1 p.m., will be held at Cedar Crest Banquet Center, 872 E. Michigan Ave. in Marshall.

Patricia Ann Sauro (April 7, 1934 - December 4, 2013)

Patricia Ann Sauro, age 79, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away Wednesday morning December 4, 2013 at her home. Pat was born in McMillan, Michigan on April 7, 1934 to the late William and Kenova (Thompson) Blankenship.

She graduated from Newberry High School with the class of 1952. On August 22, 1953 she married, her first husband, William L. Haines at the First Baptist Church of Sault Ste. Marie. After his passing, she married her second husband, James Sauro on September 28, 1968 also at the First Baptist Church. Pat enjoyed going shopping and going out to lunch with the girls. She also enjoyed puzzles, bingo, bowling, traveling, and watching her favorite sports teams: Tigers, Red Wings, and Packers. The thing she enjoyed most was spending time with the “kids”.

Pat is survived by her husband: James Sauro; four children: Roberta (Robert) Oliver, Earlene Haines, William (Bobbi) Haines, Jr., and Scott (Debra) Sauro all of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; 15 grandchildren: Jason (Lacie) Wojnaroski, Jenny (Kenny) Wagner, Melissa (Scott) Jewell, Daniel (Ami) Goetz, William (Melissa) Haines, III, Preston (Jenny) Haines, Trevor Haines, Jessie Jackson, James (Andrea) Potter, Jessie Miles, Kathlene Hann, Benjamin Hann, Amber Sauro, and Erica Sauro; 19 great grandchildren: Faith, Alyssa, and Jaycie Wojnaroski, Riley and Megan Jewell, Albert, Xavier, and Guyill Haines, Tiara, Nevaeh, Maddison, and William (IV) Haines, Hailey, Evan, and EmmaJean Haines, Maisie and Elizabeth Jackson, Quinten Miles, and Decan Cartright; and a special nephew: Brian Stevens.

James Carmen Sauro, age 77, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. passed away Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014 at War Memorial Hospital. James was born on May 26, 1937 in Sault Ste. Marie to the late Jack and Angeline (Porcaro) Sauro.

James married Patricia Blankenship in September 1968 at the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching westerns, going to the casino, and spending time with his grandchildren. James worked at the Pullar Stadium, where he was one of the original "rinkrats".

James is survived by his 4 children: Scott (Debra) Sauro, William (Roberta ) Haines, Earlene Haines and Roberta (Robert) Oliver all of Sault Ste. Marie; 14 grandchildren: Amber Sauro, Erica Sauro, William (Melissa) Haines III, Preston (Jenny) Haines, Trevor Haines, Jessie Jackson, James (Andrea) Potter, Melissa (Scott) Jewell, Daniel (Ami) Goetz, Jason (Lacie) Wojnaroski, Jenny (Kenny) Wagner, Jessie Miles, Kathlene Hann, and Benjamin Hann; and 19 great grandchildren: He is also survived by four siblings: Rose Oberle, Teresa Stevens, Gloria Weaver, and Joseph Sauro.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Patricia Sauro; a daughter: Pamela Hann; and a granddaughter: Veronica Haines. He was also preceded in death by five siblings: Mary Petingalo, Frank Sauro, Annie Sauro, Josephine Raffaele, and Anna Sauro.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Pearce officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.

Merrian "Josephine" (Cushman) Vail, born June 1, 1913 in Bath, Michigan to Albert and Nellie May (Tyler) Cushman, passed away July 18, 2013 at age 100.

Mrs. Vail was one of the last survivors of the Bath School Disaster. She loved her 7 children and their families, farming and painting. Her hobbies included painting, both china and oils.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Clare, in 2000; daughters, Betty Stull and Judy Blankenship; brother, Ralph Cushman; sister, Annabel Evert; and grandsons, Spencer Stull and Trevor Vail.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Joyce (Glenn) Svendsen, Nancy Miller, Martha (Dan) Sherman, Claude (Shirley) Vail and Hewitt (Barbara) Vail; many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vail's funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue in East Lansing, with Rev. Brian West officiating.

Anna (Spagnuolo) Baldino Garvey, beloved mother and grandmother went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 30, 2013. She died peacefully with her loving children by her side. Anna was born on May 27, 1926 to Andrew and Josephine (Fabiano) Spagnuolo in Lansing, MI. She graduated from St. Mary Catholic School in 1945.

Anna married Samuel S. Baldino, Sr. on May 15, 1948 in Lansing and became a widow in 1955. On July 15, 1961, she married Edward H. Garvey whom she had 48 years with until his death in 2010. Anna's main occupation was caring for her family and being a homemaker. Her family was her joy and happiness. She also worked for various stores including Federal's Department Store and Knapp's in Lansing. She was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte where Anna was a member of the St. Mary Altar Society. She was also active in her neighborhood ladies farm guild.

Anna is survived by her son, Samuel S. Baldino, Jr. of Charlotte, MI; daughter Laurie (T. Scott) Blankinship of Marshall, MI; 3 granddaughters whom she adored - Bethany Hannah, Andrea Joy, and Olivia Rose Blankinship. Anna was also very fond of her nieces and nephews and their children.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel S. Baldino, Sr., her second husband, Edward H. Garvey, sister, Theresa Preston, and granddaughter, Bella Rae Blankinship.

Funeral mass services will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Rosenberg officiating. Anna felt close to Fr. Francis Mossholder from St. Andrew Church in Saline who sends his thoughts and prayers and will say a mass for Anna at a later date. Burial will take place in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Marjorie Ann Blankenship of Delta Twp. Age 88, died April 2, 2014 in Grand Ledge after a short illness. She was born in Lansing on March 26, 1926, the daughter of Estelle and Roy Wilhelm, and was a graduate of Everett High School.

She married Albert C. Blankenship in December 1945. They were married for 55 years until his death in 2001.They lived in Lansing, Dimondale, Traverse City and Grand Ledge before retiring in 1976 and moving to Traverse City where they lived for more than 25 years. They also lived for several years in Surprise, Az., where Albert died in 2001. She later returned to live with family in Grand Ledge.

Marjorie was an avid seamstress and an accomplished quilter. She also enjoyed playing the piano, history and travel. She was deeply religious and an active member of several Presbyterian churches throughout her life.

She is survived by five children, Karen Moore (husband, Donald), Allan (wife, Linda), Randy (wife, Ivy), Gary (wife, Helen) and Karl (wife, Kathleen). Besides her children, she is survived by two brothers, Arthur and Raymond, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Presbyterian Church in Dimondale.

James D. Blankenship, age 81, and longtime Grand Ledge area resident, passed away April 23, 2011 in Troy, Michigan. James was born August 5, 1929 in Conway, Missouri to the late Frank and Clara (Gann) Blankenship. He served in the Navy from 1946 through 1950 and was later employed, as a computer programmer, by Diamond Reo and Oldsmobile in Lansing. He enjoyed golfing and gardening and was a lifelong supporter of the educational pursuits of his children and grandchildren.

His wife of 57 years, Edith, and sister, Frances, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Ray) Leyko, Brent (Sherry) Blankenship, Susan and Lori Blankenship; grandchildren, Aaron, Beth, Jenny, Jamie, Lucas, Jana, Travis, Trenton, and Hunter; and great-grandchild, Maddox. He is also survived by his sister, Alice (Jim) Keesling; and numerous nephews and nieces, including Sharon Smith.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2006. Dorothy enjoyed her flowers, pets and loved her family. She was a member of Eastern Star in Potterville. She remembers crossing the Mississippi River in a covered wagon at the age of 4.

Ronald "Steve" Justice, 75, of Bliss Township, died July 19, 2013, at the McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey [Emmet Co., MI]. Steve was born on Oct. 20, 1937, in Panther, W.Va., the son of Burl and Viola (Blankinship) Justice and was raised in Panther before moving to Flint with his father and went to work at General Motors as a die setter.

Steve purchased property in Bliss and spent time there on the weekends before moving there permanently in 1993 when he retired from GM after 35 years of service. On July 19, 1997, Steve married Diane Tippett at his home in Bliss and they have resided there since. Steve was a member of the Shriners and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; five children, Steven Wayne (Linda) Justice of Swartz Creek, Ron Justice of Linden, Mich., Steven Ray (Amanda) Justice of Burton, Mich., Scott (Trista) Justice of Bowling Green, Ky., and Sandy (Jamie) Sweet of Flint; two stepchildren, Valerie (John) Hutchinson of Levering and Barbara Worthington of Mackinaw City; sister, Mary Taylor, of Smyrna, Ga.; 19 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, a great-grandchild with another on the way in October; and by several nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Roy Justice.

A funeral service celebrating Steve's life will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Bliss Missionary Church with Pastor Rob Rhiner officating. Burial will be in the Bliss Township Cemetery.

Bob was born in Flint, Michigan on May 20, 1928, the son of the late William Russell and Lillian (Cadieux) Fortune. On November 17, 1966 he married Diane (Blankenship) Kimball in Burton. He was a skier, golfer and motorcyclist. Bob loved CB radios and snowmobiles. He was a member of Flint Elks Lodge and was a Shriner and Mason.

Surviving are wife, Diane Fortune of Burton; children, Candace Fortune, Melissa Fortune, both of Baltimore, MD, Cynthia and husband Bud Holzer of Burton, Charles Allan and wife Ellie Kimball of North Carolina, Annette Kimball and Marcy Kimball, both of Burton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Coral (Fred) Earl, Ursula (Bill) Miller, Mary (Ken) Richardson and Gail (Denny) Maxwell; brother, Fred (Lynn) Fortune; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen was born June 26, 1922 in Lorain, OH, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie Beattie. She came to Flint in 1934 and graduated from St. Michaels High School and from St. Joseph School of Nursing Syracuse, NY. Helen was joined in marriage to Thomas P. Blankenship October 8, 1949 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She was a member of St. John Vianney church, St. John Altar Society and Handmaidens of the Altar and the Genesee Star Quilt Guild. Helen worked as a Registered Nurse in public health and worked for the City of Flint at St. Joseph and McLaren Hospitals, retiring from McLaren in 1995. Quilting and hand sewing gave her the greatest joy later in life.

Helen is survived by children Mary G. (Allen) Pomerantz, Betsy (Denny) Camp, Ann (Duke) Stowe, Peter (Verna) Blankenship, Bill ( Pattie) Blankenship, Virginia (John) Hultquist, Matthew (Lisa) Blankenship, 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Joyce Weitzel and Rose Stevens.

Helen was preceded in death by husband Thomas Nov. 27, 1996, sisters Betty Lancaster, Blanch Saunders and brother Jim Beattie.

James David Wilson, "JD" of Flint age 78 passed away April 3, 2014 at Fergusons Nursing Home in Lapeer [Lapeer Co., MI].

Cremation has taken place, burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI Friday, April 25 at 2:30 pm.

JD was born in New Madrid, MO, July 15, 1935, the only child to Minnie Chamberlain and Jim Wilson. He was joined in marriage to Joanne Blankenship of Kewanee, MO on a weekend pass from the Naval service January 16, 1956. They spent over 44 crazy years together before her passing on July 3, 2000.

JD proudly served in the United States Navy before beginning a career working for General Motors, retiring in 1994 after serving 30 years. He was always young at heart, he loved to have fun. JD knew how important it was to have wonderful childhood memories. He made sure his two kids; LouAnn and Jimmy Joe, had a great fun filled childhood riding dirt bikes, skateboarding, fishing and having neighborhood cookouts and bonfires in the field. His kids were his life. When visiting, he made sure you felt at home, offering food, drink and laughter. Goodluck in Heaven, You have your hands full with him.

JD is survived by his children Jennifer LouAnn (Eric) Marland, Jimmy Joe (Rochelle) Wilson, grandkids Dusty, Annie, Alyssa, Blake, Logan and Carlie.

Herbert was born in St. Just Cornwall, England on January 3, 1922, the son of the late Herbert and Evelyn Kellow. Roy served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. He flew his Cessna out of Bishop Airport and rode his motorcycle well into his 70's and enjoyed camping. In his later years, he loved watching old TV game shows, reading, but he always enjoyed his beer or glass of cream sherry. Roy retired from General Motors "Chevy in the Hole". He worked for GM for 30 years and enjoyed retirement checks for 31 years.

Surviving are son, Anthony "Tony" Kellow of Flint; daughter, Leila Blankenship of Burton; grandchildren Lisa and husband Jerry McClain of Flint, Todd Stantiford of Cornersburg, Ohio, Shannon and husband Dave Wagner of Kalkaska and Christina and husband Justin Bigelow of Grand Blanc; four great-grandchildren, Antonio, Savannah, Chance and Tripp; sister, Betty Thomas of St. Just Cornwall, England.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary, son-in-law, Bill Blankenship, sister, Leila Kellow, brother, Henry Kellow.

Funeral services for Virginia (Faye) Hall, 68, of Grand Blanc, Mich., will be held at 2 p.m. (EST) on Friday, Nov. 11, at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint, Mich. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 8 p.m. (EST) today, Thursday, Nov. 10, and from 10 a.m. (EST) until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

Ms. Hall died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at her residence. She was born Sept. 5, 1943, in Bakerville to the late Jessie and Bessie Brake Woods. Ms. Hall was a resident of Cookeville for the past 25 years. She was employed with Hamady Brothers in Grand Blanc. Faye loved gardening, woodworking, sewing crafts and fishing.

Her family includes three daughters, Deborah Brown and friend Kenneth Brown, Kimberly Ritter and Dorinda and husband Robert Sosh; two sons, Delano Jr. and wife Holly Hall and Jerry Ritter and friend Janie Moore; three brothers, Jerry, Jim and Robert Woods; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Moureen Ritter; a brother, Steven Woods; and two sisters, Betty Chappell and Linda Blankenship.

Carrie was born August 1, 1920 in Sterling, the daughter of John and Carrie G. (Fox) Ellison. She married Donald W. Quick October 15, 1939 in Standish and he preceded her in death January 9, 1979, she then married Woodrow Blankenship in 1992 and he preceded her in death July 27, 1995. She had resided in Linden since 1948. Carrie had been employed by Linden Presbyterian Church for 25 years as a custodian and also did upholstery and restored furniture. She was a member of Linden Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed farming with her husband Donald from 1949 to 1978. She especially enjoyed crocheting.

Surviving are: daughter, Geraldine Kay Coppler of Linden; 2 grandchildren, Richard Coppler, Jr. and wife Victoria of Swartz Creek and Janice Coppler of Linden; 4 grandchildren, Jacqulyn, Aaron and Andrew Coppler and Nicholas Adams; 3 stepsons, Eugene and wife Barb Blankenship, Oscar and wife Pat Blankenship and Mark Blankenship; stepdaughter, Shirley and husband E. Mr. Smith was born in Pulaski, VA on September 20, 1928. He worked in the radio and TV industry for over 60 years and was well known in the Flint and Detroit areas. He was named Country Music Disc Jockey Of The Year in 1953 and conducted teen dances in the 1950's and 60's all over Michigan. He was the past commander of the VFW Post 4642 in Linden and was a veteran of the Naval Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Helen F. Smith (Byrd); father and mother, George and Stella Smith; brothers, Earl and Edgar and sister, Ethel.

Paula was born October 30, 1963 in Royal Oak, MI the daughter of Joe Taylor and Neoma (Blankenship) Taylor. She went to Durand High School and Baker College in Owosso. Paula married David Eckstein on October 14, 1983; he preceded her in death December 9, 2008. She worked as a Radiology Technologist for Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Paula was a wonderful woman and great mother. She loved to fish.

Surviving are: three daughters, Shawnda (Steve) Dykes, Shanyn Eckstein, Samantha Eckstein; three grandchildren, Ayden, Ashlynn, Avalee; father, Joe Taylor; mother, Neoma Taylor; siblings, Joe Taylor, Sandy (Patrick) Donohue, Melissa Taylor, Charla (Ron) Nelson, Tom Taylor; several nieces and nephews.

Benjamin F. "Ben" Porter, age 75, of Pittsford, passed away May 19, 2011. Ben was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Hudson the son of Frank and Nora (Sines) Porter.

On Feb. 19, 1973, he married the love of his life, Darlene. He was an avid gardener and loved to fish. In addition to his wife, Darlene, Ben is survived by his children, Darlene (Carl) Blankenship, Benjie Porter, April (Jack) Patterson, Shawn (Laurie) Porter, Teresa (Dale) Sharrar, Todd Porter and Tadd (Melissa) Porter and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson and a great granddaughter.

At his request, cremation has taken place and there will not be any services.

She enjoyed camping, crafts and golfing. She was a member of the Delta Mills United Methodist Church.

Surviving to cherish Adelaide's memory are her daughter, Jackie (Richard) Blankenship; sons, Don (Wendy) Gould and Paul (Debi) Gould; grandchildren, Scott and Cary Blankenship, Dustin, Christopher, Clark, Spencer, and Grant Gould; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Makenzie, and Adilynn.

Elaine leaves behind five children, William (Robin) Jirgens, Maija (Steve Bird) Jirgens, Ziggy Jirgens, Jr., Peter (Chris) Jirgens, and Rita Jirgens. Elaine loved her jewelry, but her true gems were her five grandchildren, Dana Blankenship , Ryan Blankenship , Jennifer Rayman, Chad Jirgens, and grandma's princess, Zoe Jirgens-Smalla; three great grandchildren, Mason Blankenship , Morgan and Gavin Rayman; Godchild, Silvia Fride; nieces, nephews, and Morris, her cat.

Elaine's interests included taking care of her first love, Zigfrids, her family and friends. She loved cooking, making snack-os, scrapbooking, shopping, traveling, dancing, and entertaining. She always worried about others instead of herself, giving above and beyond. She was kind hearted, and always called every day to see what was happening. Elaine enjoyed working at Perrigo Pharmaceutical Company for 27 years, where she made lifetime friends.

Sharon was a graduate of Davenport University and was employed at Guardian, Inc. for 15 years as a social worker. Sharon had a love for gardening and was known for being a master gardener.

Sharon is survived by her step-father, David McClendon of GA; the love of her life, Robert Gates; her dog Charlie; sisters Pauline (George) Channells of Martin, MI, Shirley Johnson of Paw Paw, MI; a brother, Harm (Marilyn) Troff of New Mexico; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Sharon is preceded in death by both parents and a sister; Minnie Gordon.

In accordance with Sharon's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Thomas Joe Hart, of Ada, formerly of Caledonia. Passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013. He was born December 6, 1930 in Lauderdale County, AL, the son of Joseph Henry and Minnie Myrtle (Austin) Hart.

He lived in Caledonia, coming from Auburn, IN. He also resided in Vicksburg, White Pigeon, and spent his early life in Alabama. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On October 30, 1954, in White Pigeon, he married the former Eleanor Jean Blankenship. She preceded him in death on May 10, 2006.

He worked at Folding Carton Business for most of his life. He was also employed at the Auburn, IN Packaging Company, the Rockford Paper Mill, Sturgis Carton, Kirsch Co., and he owned two other Carton Companies. He attended the United Methodist Church and Baptist Church. He enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking, repairing items, gardening, his John Deere tractor, and building his own homes.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Joe Hart, II, of Byron Center; three daughters, Elizabeth Joan (Jack) Boyko of Ada, Brenda Jayne (Jerry) Stenstrom of Schoolcraft, Lori Jeanine (Dave) Meisner of Scotts; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Nora Ford of White Pigeon, Virginia White of Florence, AL; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Melvin Hart.

Services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, MI. Rev. Scott Manning of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.

Brenda E. Pick, age 66, of Clayton died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Magnum Healthcare Center [Adrian, Lenawee Co., MI] with her loving family at her side. She was born on Oct. 17, 1947, in Rock Ridge, W.Va., the daughter of Roy Lee and Dorothy Marie (Blankenship) Collins.

On March 31, 1976, she married Charles "Charlie" Pick. Brenda was co-owner and president of Colonial Fireworks along with her husband for 23 years until she retired in 2002. She had also been a tutor volunteer for the Lincoln Schools and a religious education teacher for St. Joseph in Ypsilanti. She was a grateful, happy, joyous and free member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1988. She was also a member of St. Mary of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Adrian and its Rosary Altar Society. She enjoyed reading, especially murder mysteries, baking, traveling, gardening, attending her home group meeting and spending time with her family, her extended AA family and many friends. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband, Charlie, Brenda is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Paul) Putchinski of Rockwall, Texas; four brothers, Nolan Collins of Richland, Va., William Collins of Glendale, Ariz., Cheyene (Mary) Collins of Sophia, W.Va., and Joseph (Belinda) Collins of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Rebecca Vickers of Columbus, Ohio, and Betty (Ermine) Day and Virginia (Bruce) Puckett, both of Paynesville, W.Va.; and two granddaughters, Katence and Quinn Putchinski.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis; and two sisters, Frankie Stanton and Wilma Jean Collins.

The Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at St. Mary of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Adrian with Fr. Shaun Lowery as Celebrant. Cremation will follow the mass. Inurnment of her cremated remains will be in the Roy and Dorothy Collins Family Cemetery in Beartown, W.Va., at a later date.

Rodney L. Blankenship, age 57, of Tipton, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2010, at his home. He was born June 24, 1953, in Roseville, Michigan, the son of Rod and Dolores (Settles) Blankenship.

He was a graduate of Wayne State University. He was married to Donna Permenter on July 21, 1983, in Toledo, Ohio and she survives. Rod enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He retired from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry as a training instructor in 2006. He was currently a CPR instructor for Lenawee County and coordinator for CERT.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (Permenter) Blankenship; his parents, Rod and Dolores Blankenship; and one brother, Greg Blankenship. He is also survived by three children, Jeri (Alex) Parker, Josh (Brandi) Blankenship, and Jamie Marr; and four grandchildren, Breanna and Michael Blankenship and Lexi and Nick Marr.

Hugh G. Miller III, Age 28, lifelong resident of Fowlerville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Born on June 11, 1985 in Pontiac, he was the son of Hugh G. Jr. and Melissa M. (Huzarski) Miller.

Hugh was a graduate of Fowlerville High School in 2003. He was owner/operator of H.G. Miller's Custom Carpentry and was very dedicated to his daughters and family.

Beloved son of Melissa (Ronald II) Howard of Howell and Hugh G. Miller of Novi. Loving father of Clarissa Rae Anne; brother of Vanessa Miller of Lansing, Zoe Langan of Novi, Ron Howard III of Lansing and Chris Howard of Webberville. Loving companion of Christina Cox and her daughters, Josalyn and Vanessa Cox. Grandson of Edward and Kathy Huzarski, Janet Bursott and Patricia and David Blankenship, numerous aunts, uncles, niece, cousins and friends.

Hugh was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Hugh G. Miller, Sr. and Murray Bursott.

Arthur Walkowiak, 61, Centerline, MI passed away suddenly. He was the dear son of Dr. Arthur and Nina Walkowiak; and the oldest brother to his eight siblings: Nanette Strobl, Heidi, Mark, James, Richard, Sally Blankenship , Amy Mastromatteo and Michael Walkowiak. He is also the uncle of seven nieces and six nephews. Art will be missed by lifelong friends Brien and Lynn Fausone, Tom Clarke, Ron and Michelle Schwarz, Steve Kyle, and Johnny and Nancy McKinley. Art truly loved his family and close friends.

His interests were music, anything outdoors, his gardens, classic movies, cooking, crossword puzzles, cigars and Miller beer. Art would lend a hand to whoever needed it, period. We love and miss you, God bless you.

Robert Ora Allen age 92, formerly of Greenville Michigan, died Monday April 14th 2014, at the Lake View Heights Alzheimer/Dementia community in the North Central Health Care facility, Wausau, [Marathon Co.], Wisconsin. Prior to moving to Lake View Heights in October 2013 Bob and wife Alice (she survives) lived three plus years in the Applegate Terrace assisted living complex also in Wausau.

Bob was born May 2, 1921 in Bay Township Michigan. After graduating from Boyne City High School he moved to Greenville Michigan where he remained until 2010. During his years in Wausau his heart and mind always remained in Greenville.

Bob served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 70th tank battalion which was under the command of Gen. George Patton. The 70th was involved in some of the toughest battles of the war and was at the forefront of many major campaigns. While serving in this battalion Bob was involved in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy (D-Day invasion on Utah beach), Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Central Europe. He was Honorably Discharged on 1946 with a Good Conduct Medal; a Presidential Unit Citation; European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medals with six bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead.

On August 24th, 1946 Bob married Alice Mary Hansen in North Sidney Lutheran Church, Sidney MI. They enjoyed traveling, family get-togethers, playing cards with friends and neighbors and delivering Meals on Wheels.

Bob's passion was wood-working and carpentry. He spent considerable time helping neighbors, friends and family with house hold repairs and carpentry projects of various sizes. He was especially proud that he built his own home in Greenville in which he and Alice lived for nearly fifty years.

Bob spend a lot of time walking. He walked to and from work and after his retirement enjoyed walking downtown every day to have coffee and a roll at the downtown bakery. He and Alice walked several times across the Mackinaw Bridge on the annual Labor Day bridge walk.

Bob worked at the Greenville Post Office for nearly 30 years as letter carrier, window clerk, Assistant Postmaster and Postmaster, the position from which he retired in 1976. Bob was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville and remained an active member until that church closed and merged with St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife, Alice Mary (Hansen); son, Dewey (Cheryl) Allen, Wausau WI; daughter, Mary (Keith) Paine, Olathe, KS; granddaughters, Alison (Ben) Blankenship, Little Elm TX and Monica (Paul Wagner) Allen, Eagan, MN; and great-grandchildren, Samuel "Sam" and Maggie Blankenship and Lily and Liam Wagner. Also surviving are brother, Leroy (Mary) Allen, Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Marjorie (Elmer) Minthorn, Fife Lake, MI; sister, Ruth (Earl) Neinas, Sturgeon Bay, WI; sister-in-law, Betty Allen, Boyne City, MI; also sister-in-laws, Nate Lou(Lee) Hansen, Trufant, MI, Grace (Robert) Hemstreet, San Diego CA, Laura Roberts, Raymore, MO; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews living throughout the country.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Lillie Allen; brother, Carl (Donna) Allen, Harold (Wilma) Allen and James Allen; sister-in-laws, Jane Allen and Marilyn (Max) Christensen.

Kay King, 56 years, of Dundee, Michigan, was promoted to Glory, on Thursday, February 13, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born September 17, 1957 in Welch, West Virginia, Kay was the daughter of the late Hershel and Thelma (Church) Blankenship.

Kay graduated from high school in Flint, MI. On January 25, 1984, Kay married her beloved husband Richard Lewis King in Texas. In July of 1991 the family moved to Dundee. Kay worked as a rural route mail carrier for the United States Post Office for 16 years, from which she retired in February of 2011. Kay was a very active member of Summerfield Baptist Church in Petersburg, MI. Kay was the Nursery Director, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Kay enjoyed traveling and mowing the lawn. More than anything Kay loved family, especially her grandchildren.

Kay is survived by her beloved husband of 30 years Richard Lewis, three loving children: Wayne Richard (Lindsay) King of Lambertville, MI, Adam Ray (Codi) King of Britton, MI and Tasha LyLynn (Paul) Globensky of Temperance, MI, seven cherished grandchildren: P.J., Damian, Mercedes, and Lexi Globensky, Karlie, Landon, and Cooper King, with another on the way, two brothers: Alda (Betty) Blankenship of Sand Springs, OK and Allen (Robin) Blankenship of Stillwater, OK, a sister: Patty (Terry) Hill of Galax, VA, two nieces, six nephews and many close friends and family members.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by a brother: Autry, three grandchildren and a great niece Skye Danielle Blankenship.

Alice Marie Zubeck, age 92, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Born on April 15, 1920 to Frances and Carl Hultquist in Flint, Michigan.

Marie was a 60 year resident of Royal Oak, Michigan and worked for the Royal Oak City Hall and retired from The Lincoln Press. She had a love for books and bingo, but her greatest passion was quilting. She was a member of The Happy Quilters Club for over 25 years. Her memory lives on in all the stitches of quilts that she lovingly created for every member of her family. She was a wonderful listener to her grandchildren and cherished the moments that she spent with her entire family. She truly was the heart of it all and will be greatly missed.

Survived by her children, Barbara (Frank) Neff, Theodore J. (Leslie), Robert M. (Laura), Paul S. (Donna) and Mark T. (Kim) Zubeck; grandchildren, John Neff, Mimi (Paul) Toutant, Joe, Emma, Amelia, Annie, Paul, Mark and Teddy Zubeck; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Joshua Toutant; sister, Jeanette Blankenship and sister-in-law, Kathleen Hultquist.

Preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Zubeck, whom she married November 16, 1946; sister, Helen Blankenship; brothers, Bud, Walter and Bob Hultquist.

Mrs. Ethel Marie Sobers, 97, of Hart, passed away Friday, July 13. She was born November 11, 1914, in Scottville, to Alonzo and Mary (Stull) Swihart.

On September 5, 1942, she married Earl L. Sobers in Hart. They were married thirty-three years before his passing on September 12, 1975. Mrs. Sobers was a member of Hart Wesleyan Church, where she played the organ. She was an outgoing person who loved gardening and flowers.

Ethel is survived by one son, Noel (Judy) Sobers of Hart; two granddaughters, Lisa (Scott) Agens of Bitely and Andrea Sobers of Hart; three great-grandchildren, Monica Blankenship and Michael and Corey Agens; one sister, Flossie Roth of Muskegon; one sister-in-law, Ethelyn Swihart of Hart; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband; two brothers, Ernest and Wayne Swihart; and three sisters, Pauline King, Fern Swihart, and Freda Peeraer.

The funeral service for Mrs. Sobers will be held Wednesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at Hart Wesleyan Church, in Hart, with Pastor David Gray officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery.

Osuna, Jesus "Jesse" Beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011 at St. Mary's of Michigan, age 68 years. Jesse Osuna was born on August 28, 1942 in Harlingen, Texas to the late Julio and Guadalupe (Esquivel) Osuna.

He married Teodora Hernandez on August 30, 1963. She predeceased him on April 4, 2003.

Surviving are his five children: Cyndi (Rick) Mosqueda, Jesse Osuna, Jr., Belinda (Frank) Blankenship, Julio Osuna and Thomas (Vicky) Osuna; grandchildren: Jessica (Manison), Stephanie (Ruben), Carrie, Seth, Rainelle, Kamiya and Danyelle; two great grandchildren, Lily and Marcus; and two brothers and five sisters: Abel (Mary), Homer, Frances, Janie, Elena, Ophelia, Gloria. Also surviving is a special nephew, Tony Botello. The Osuna family would like to give a special thanks to aunts Ophelia, Martha, and Janie for their love and support. Jesse was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina Elizabeth Osuna; and a brother, Pastor Reyes Osuna.

Mosqueda, Ricardo of Saginaw, Michigan. Heaven has lifted another angel. Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend Rick went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2011. Rick was born on November 16, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan where he resided.

He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1977 and worked for the City of Saginaw for 21 years. Rick was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Rick was also an avid bowler for many years and was known by many throughout the bowling community. Anyone who knew Rick, knew he loved his family, bowling and the University of Michigan, the "maize and blue". Go Blue!

Surviving is his wife Cynthia Mosqueda and three daughters; Jessica (Manison) Toney of Auburn, Indiana; Rainelle and Danyelle Mosqueda, at home. Siblings: Ramon (Rosario) Mosqueda, San Antonio, TX; Emma (David) Chantaca, Birch Run; Sonia Mosqueda and Ruben Silvas, Holland; Ruben (Marcella) Mosqueda, Saginaw. In-laws: Jesse Osuna, Jr., Belinda (Frank) Blankenship, Julio Osuna and Thomas (Vickie) Osuna, all of Saginaw; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Ruperto and Delores Mosqueda and his in-laws Jesse and Teodora Osuna. Rick enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, taking his daughters bowling and listening to Mexican/Tejano music.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 915 S. 6th Avenue. His family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, and then at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass.

William Van Peeren, age 88, of Marine City, formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully in his home following a courageous battle with cancer on August 3, 2014. He was born December 13, 1925 in Detroit.

William served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Master Machine Mate aboard the USS Siboney. He also served two years in the National Guard. William was a police officer in St. Clair Shores for 26 years. He was a 55 years Mason at the Jefferson Lodge in St. Clair Shores and a combined 51 year Shriner with both the Moslem Temple, Detroit and Azan Temple, Florida. He is a Past Potentate of the Azan Temple. He participated with many units including Motor Corp, Arabian Horse Troop with Moslem Temple and Satellites and Dune Buggy’s with Azan. He also served on the Board of Governors with the Shrine Hospital, Tampa.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pauline Van Peeren; 12 children, Lyle (Nancy) Van Peeren, William Van Peeren Jr., David (Delores) Van Peeren, Gail (David) Wyatt, Donald Van Peeren, Rebecca (Warren) Reeves, Joanne Scavone, Sharon (Dennis) Blankenship, Sue (Mike) Hetu, Arlena (Randy) Craven, Ronald (Heidi) Campbell, Denise (Michael) Buckley; 28 grandchildren, including grandson and friend, David Buckley; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Virginia Heisner and Lena Newitt; brothers-in-law, Earle (Elaine) Liss and James Liss; and sister-in-law, Gloria Van Peeren.

He was preceded in death by parents, Arie and Lena Van Peeren; brother, Arie Van Peeren; sisters, Bertha Lewis and Marie Newell; and grandchildren, Sean Albertson and Jennifer Scavone.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 9 at 11 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, East China Township. A Masonic Service on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to service.

Dorothy G. Capps, 96, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 4, 2014. She was born June 6, 1917 in Detroit to the late Patrick and Emma Walsh. She married William H. Capps on September 21, 1935 in Port Huron. He died February 8, 1989.

Mrs. Capps graduated from Port Huron High School and Port Huron Junior College with a degree in Nursing. She was employed with several area hospitals until going to work for Chrysler Corporation. She was a long time member of the Salvation Army.

She is survived by her sons, William D. (Sue) Capps and Donald E. (Janet) Capps; grandchildren, Joan (Pete) Miller, Carol (Richard) Blankenship, Paul Capps, Elizabeth (Mark) Andrzejewski, Jennifer (Dan) Kosel, James Pepper, Mary (Brian) Kendzierski, Jennifer DeRidder, Bryan Beach and William (Kim) Beach III; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Elmer Walsh; sister, Jean Lewandowski; former daughter-in-law, Margaret Capps; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Capps in 1953; five sisters, Kathleen, Viola, Betty, Patricia and her twin sister, Doris; and former daughters-in-law, Eiko Capps and Sandra Capps.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at The Salvation Army, Port Huron Citadel. Major Mark Turner will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.

He is survived by his four sisters, Frances (Emmeth) Engeseth and Carol Anglemyer, both of Delton, Judy Anglemyer, Elkhart, Ind., and Kathy Blankenship, Grand Junction; and four brothers, Donald (Ruth) Anglemyer, Decatur, Jerry Anglemyer, Cassopolis, Tom (Marcia) Anglemyer, Union, and Dennis Anglemyer (Bonnie Walma), Dora.

A graveside service will take place July 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Cassopolis. There will be a memorial gathering at Victory Missionary Baptist Church, Decatur, following the graveside service.

Marion Blankenship, 66, of Mendon, died Friday, July 1, 2010 at the Three Rivers Health, Emergency Room. She was born in Dowagiac on April 27, 1944 the daughter of Clyde W. and Dorothy M. (Johnson) Davis.

She was married to Benny Blankenship on Jan. 21, 1960 in Goshen, Ind. They resided in Marcellus and Jones before moving to Mendon in 1963. Marion was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, reading, and her cats.

Marion is survived by a daughter, Doris Blankenship of Sturgis; a son, David Blankenship of Mendon; a brother, Jerry Jacobs of Ludington; four sisters, Linda Jacobs, Lou Ann Olsen both of Marcellus, Marie Sears, and Mary Riggs both of Niles; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benny in 1983; two brothers, Richard and Ray Davis; and two sisters, Meredith Bainbridge and Marguerite Cleland.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 7 at the funeral home followed by burial in Mendon Cemetery.

William F. Gibson, age 91, of Sturgis passed away Monday morning, July 8, 2013, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born May 28, 1922, in Coldwater, a son of the late Frank and Rosetta (Byers) Gibson. Mr. Gibson resided in Sturgis for over 60 years.

On Sept. 7, 1940, he married Mabel J. Granger in Bryan, Ohio. She died April 21, 1989. Bill was a truck driver by trade retiring from Key Line Freight in Grand Rapids after more than 40 years of dedicated employment. Following his retirement he drove part time for Penske Leasing in Elkhart, Ind., for several years. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and Deacon Jerry Mix Council #2508 Knights of Columbus. Bill was also a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW, Loyal Order of Moose #574, Eagles Lodge #1314 and he loved to fish. Mr. Gibson was proud to have served his country in the United States Marine Corp during World War II earning the rank of Private First Class.

He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Blankenship of Hudson, Ind.; one son, Larry (Mona) Gibson of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren, Kellie Gibson, Karrie Davenport, Kevin (Marianne) Gibson, Kurt Gibson, Richard "Flip" (Lisa) Samuels and Ryan (Tisha) Samuels; 11 great-grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Hughes of Zephyrhills, Fla., Lillian Anslinger of Lake Placid, Fla., Vivian Quimby of Quincy, Carol McRae of Quincy and Bonnie Van-Horn of Alma; four brothers, Paul Gibson of Bronson, Norman Gibson of Coldwater, David Gibson of Montgomery and Jerry Gibson of Huntington, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Eyre and two brothers, Robert Gibson and Earl Gibson.

In accordance with his wishes there will be no visitation. Private burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard. A memorial Mass celebrating the life of William Gibson was held Friday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz officiated.

Doris Marie Blankenship, age 52, of Sturgis, and formerly of Mendon, died Saturday Nov. 9, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers. She was born Dec. 6, 1960, in Three Rivers, a daughter of Benny and Marion (Davis) Blankenship, and had been a lifetime resident of St. Joseph County.

She graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1979. Doris had been employed as a secretary at Armstrong Machine Works in Three Rivers and retired from Sturgis Tool and Die Company. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry, latch-hook rug-making and sketching. She enjoyed her cats and had Garfield, Unicorn and dolphin collections.

She is survived by a brother, David Blankenship of Mendon; and by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clint Zehr officiating. Burial will follow in Mendon Cemetery.

Miriam F. Cronk, of Paw Paw, was reunited with Ed, her lifelong friend and husband Friday evening, August 30, 2013 at her home. She was born April 16, 1924 in Paw Paw, the daughter of the late Earl and Ella (Vickers) Passmore.

Miriam enjoyed working at Dillon Drug Store, Paw Paw until her retirement. She was a member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church and the Paw Paw Carnegie Community Center Board. While her children were growing she was a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. After her retirement, she enjoyed her flower garden, feeding and watching birds.

On July 8, 1944 in Durham, NC, she was united in marriage to Edward F. Cronk who preceded her in death on September 27, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Cronk; daughter, Susan Fahndrich; and a sister, Margaret Blankenship.

Surviving are three sons: Thomas (Brenda) Cronk of Battle Creek, MI, John (Kim) Cronk of Kalamazoo, MI and Craig (Penny) Cronk of Decatur, MI; daughter: Virginia Cronk of Bangor, MI; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Miriam had many friendships which she nurtured thru all the years.

Family will receive friends Wednesday morning, September 4th, 12 noon to 1 PM at the Adams Funeral Home Paw Paw where funeral services will be held at 1 PM following the visitation. Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Paw Paw.

Jacqueline Sue Johnson was born on November 23, 1946 in McRoberts, Kentucky. She was one of eight children born from the union of the late Creed Johnson and the late Ada (Johnson) Johnson. She attended school at Lookout and Virgie Elementary Schools. She married Junior Rollyson on March 13, 1964. He passed away in 1968. She then married Paul Hunt. Later she married Victor Campbell in 2002 and he passed away June 30, 2003.

Sue loved to go to church, and she had found a church home when attending the Community Freewill Baptist Church in Ypsilanti. She also loved to just sit and enjoy the outdoors. She enjoyed shopping, and loved collecting angels. Music was another of her favorite pastimes whether it was just listening, playing the piano, or even dancing, which her family stated she could out-dance every one of them, music brought her joy. At one time she enjoyed crafts, but her all time favorite was her grandchildren.

Jacqueline Sue Campbell age 63 of Ypsilanti, formerly of Monroe, Warren and Prosperity, WV passed away at 5:15pm, Monday, April 5, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. In addition to her parents and two husbands her passing was preceded by a brother: Robert Johnson and a sister: Illine Blair.

Friends may gather from 10:00am until 1:00pm, Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 1:00pm with the Rev. Milford Byrd Interim Pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church in Ypsilanti officiating. Procession will follow to Ridgeway Township Cemetery in Ridgeway for burial.

Grosse Pointe Woods resident Nina Barbara Walkowiak, 83, died peacefully Friday, April 12, 2013, at Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe after a short illness. She was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Detroit, to Zygmund and Sally Sipowicz. She grew up in Hamtramck and was a 1947 graduate of Hamtramck High School. She worked a short time at Michigan Bell Telephone Co. before she married Arthur Walkowiak D.D.S.

Her family said Mrs. Walkowiak was an excellent cook who kept busy and active caring for her nine children, husband and home. An avid tennis player, she was a charter member of Wimbledon Racquet Club in St. Clair Shores.

Mrs. Walkowiak is survived by her children, Nanette Strobl (Gary), Arthur, Heidi, Mark, James (Jayne), Richard (Rose), Sally Blankenship (Brian), Amy Mastromatteo (Don) and Michael; 13 grandchildren, Gary Strobl Jr., Harrison Walkowiak, Allasandra Walkowiak, Stefania Walkowiak, Laura Blankenship, Sarah Blankenship, Jamie Mastromatteo, Dominic Mastromatteo, Matthew Mastromatteo, Carly Walkowiak, Summer Walkowiak, Jackson Walkowiak and Michael Walkowiak Jr.; and brother, Ted Sipowicz (Louise).

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur.

Almeda M. Horsfall, 89, passed away June 22, 2014. She was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., daughter of Lewis and Bessie (nee Trout) Whetzel.

On Jan. 22, 1943, in Lincoln, Neb., Almeda married the love of her life, Owen Horsfall, and they spent 46 blissful years together until his death in 1989.

Almeda is survived by her children: Mary (Mike) Dittmer, Lois (Mark) Black and David Horsfall; siblings: Denzil DeVaney, Ora Blankenship, Jr., Fred (Nancy) Blankenship, and Linda Marvel; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her brother Donald (the late Irene) Martin. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Charlene Sierakowski, Joseph Goerke, Julie Freigang, Marci Blankenship, Karen Benz, Meghan Jamerino, Laurel Eisen, Erin Lowery, Carly Goerke, Kevin Goerke, Kimberly Delorme and Matthew Emerick. Great-grandchildren; Martin Sierakowski, Luke & Grace Freigang, Liesl, Marta, James, Emma & Heidi Blankenship, Abigale & Caleb Benz, Dylan Eisen, C J, Anna & Mackenzie Lowery, Justin Goerke, Kevin & Cassandra Neidenthal.
