Earl J. Kurtz, 73, Devils Lake, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1988, in Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.

Earl J. Kurtz was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Pillsbury, N.D., the son of George and Myrtle Kurtz. He grew up and attended school in Galchutt, N.D., and on April 20, 1938, married Ione Picotte in Kent, Minn. They lived in Barney, N.D., and Fargo before moving to Devils Lake in 1952. He owned and operated grain elevators and salvage grain companies in Devils Lake, Jamestown, and Minot, N.D., and Aberdeen, S.D., retiring in 1979.

Survivors are his wife; sons, Delano and Loren; daughters, Karen (Mrs. Lynn) Blankenship and Kimberly (Mrs. Carl) Berger, all of Devils Lake; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Luella Schroeder, Pelican Rapids, Minn.
