Patricia "Pat" Spicer, 59, formerly of 1206 14th Ave.,
S., died Saturday, June 26, 1993, in Valley Memorial Home-Almonte
Living Center, where she had lived since May 19.
Patricia A. Saunders was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Grand Forks, the
daughter of Harry and Juanita (Greenman), Saunders grew up and attended schools in Larimore N.D. She
graduated from Larimore High School and attended Aakers
Business College in Grand Forks. She married Hartland Spicer Jan. 5, 1959 in
Grand Forks. She also lived in East Grand Forks, Larimore and Williston, N.D.,
and most recently had worked at the Westward Ho Model in Grand Forks.
Survivors are her son Ray, Lakota, N.D.; daughters, Jewel (Mrs.
Alan) Zakopyko, Emerado,
N.D., and Barb (Mrs. Todd) Leeson, Lawton, N.D.; five
grandchildren; mother, Juanita Kalness, Grand Forks;
and sisters, Charlotte Matthews, Texarkana, Texas, Margaret Larson, Boston,
Mary Mikkelsen, Minneapolis, Julie Blankenship , Concord, Calif., Cathy Wolfgram, Grand Forks, Nina Aynes,
Saco Mont., and Sandy Truex, Chicago.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles H., who died in 1960.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Amundson
Funeral Home in Grand Forks. Visitation: One hour before services in funeral
home. Burial: Larimore.

Carole Pugh, 71, Devils Lake, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, in Good
Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Carole Lynne Sibley was born Aug. 13, 1925, the
daughter of Earl and Lois ( Blankenship ) Sibley, in Devils Lake, where she
attended school. She graduated from Trinity School of Nursing, Minot, in 1946.
She worked as a nurse in Pine Ridge, S.D., and also worked in Minnesota and
North Dakota. She married James Edward Pugh June 1950, in Hot Springs, S.D.
They moved to Hibbing, Minn., in 1965. They returned to Devils Lake in 1966.
She worked as a nurse in Mercy Hospital and as an instructor for the LPN
program at UND-Lake Region.
She is survived by a son, William, Minneapolis; daughters, Nance
Reeves and Patricia Grant, both of Devils Lake; eight grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; a sister, Jean Klemetsrud, Devils
Lake; and a brother Earl Jr., Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Eileen Way; a
brother, Frederick "Jack;" and stepmother Cora Sibley.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday
in Episcopal Church of the Advent, Devils Lake. Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery (Aaker, Dunnigan and Brooks,
Devils Lake).

Willard Halle, 88, Devils Lake, died Friday, March 13, 1998, in
Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Willard Clarence Halle was born Sept. 8, 1909, the
son of Albert and Lilly (Delaney) Halle, in Devils Lake, where he attended
school. He attended Hanson Mechanic School, Fargo. He married Opal Peterson on
Nov. 12, 1939, in Devils Lake. They farmed east of Devils Lake. They retired in
1972. He continued to assist with the farming through 1997. Opal Halle died
April 22, 1991.
He is survived by sons, Wayne (Karen), Donald, Dale (Faye), and
Gary (Laura), all of Devils Lake; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
and sisters, Ethel Lindsey, Portland, Ore., Evabelle
Christie, Devils Lake, Ruth Mahoney, Crary, N.D.,
Dorothy Hellickson, Eugene, Ore., and Gladys Clint,
Onalaska, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil; and sisters, Alice Steigemann and Mildred Blankenship .
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake. Burial:
Devils Lake Cemetery.

Juanita G. Kalness, 80, formerly of Grand
Forks and Larimore, N.D., died Friday, April 30, 1999, in Luther Memorial Home,
Mayville, N.D. Juanita Gertrude Greenman was born
June 19, 1918, the daughter of James J.W. and Dorothy (Morley) Greenman, in Dickinson, N.D. She grew up and attended
school in Larimore. She married Harry Saunders on June 15, 1933, in Larimore.
She worked at a cafe in Larimore. She also worked at Johnson's Department
Store, Larimore. She retired in 1980 and moved to Grand Forks. She moved to
Hillsboro and later to Mayville. She married Leslie Kalness
on April 20, 1954, in Las Vegas. He died Feb. 9, 1970.
She is survived by
daughters, Margaret Larson, Rockville, Md., Charlotte Matthews, Texarkana,
Texas, Julie Blankenship , Concord, Calif., Nina Haynes, Saco,
Mont., Mary (Marvin) Mikkelsen, Fridley, Minn., Cathy
(Dave) Wolfgram, Grand Forks, and Sandy (Jeff) Truex, Villa Park, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl Claunch,
Springfield, Mo.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Spicer; and a
granddaughter.

Mike J. Burgard, 76, Minot, formerly of
Orrin, died Jan. 18, 1994, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11
a.m. Saturday at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Mike Burgard was born Nov. 11, 1917, at Esmond, the son of Peter and Frances (Geisinger)
Burgard. He was raised and educated at Orrin. During
World War II he served with the Army in Normandy and Europe, earning the Bronze
Star, Purple Heart and battlefield promotions. Following discharge on Dec. 20,
1945, he returned to North Dakota, and on Jan. 21, 1946, he married Lena Bachmeier. They lived and farmed four miles south of Orrin
for 10 years. In 1956 they moved to Minot, where he was employed in the
upholstery and service departments of Fisher Motors Inc. He retired in 1979
after 21 years with the auto dealership. While living at Orrin, he served two years
on the school board. In Minot he was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and
Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and
Roxanne, Burleson, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Terry Deeter, Bismarck, and Darlene and Bill Blankenship , Garland, Texas; nine grandchildren; one
brother, Tom, Rugby; and 10 sisters, Frances Bachmeier,
Yakima, Wash., Tillie Penzkover, Wisconsin Rapids,
Wis., Pauline Lithun and Vernie
Keller, both of Harvey, Mary Schneider, Orrin, Margaret Fettig,
Mount Lake Terrace, Wash., Betty Morgan, Rosamond, Calif., Barbara Wolf, Towner,
Magdalena Woitte, Balfour, and Katie Lemar, Minot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Julia; and one
grandson, Brandon.
