Air Force Staff Sergeant James "Bozy" Kirby, 26, Omaha, Neb., formerly of Rockcastle County, husband of Carolyn Blankenship Kirby, died of a gunshot wound to the chest Monday. Mr. Kirby was shot after he came to the aid of his brother-in-law, Darwin Blankenship, who was being robbed and beaten by a group of young men in Omaha. Two people have been arrested on robbery charges. A murder warrant has been issued against another person, Omaha Police Sgt. John Skanes said.

Services 2 p.m. Saturday, Cox Funeral Home. Visitation 7 p.m. today.

Fred W. Schumacher, 84 died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at his rural Kennard home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Burial will be in the German Cemetery.

Fred W. Schumacher was born Feb. 14, 1913 in Omaha to Chris and Louise ( Stender ) Schumacher. He attended the LaCrone School.

On Feb. 2, 1939, he married Alvina Wesemann in Omaha. He farmed in rural Kennard his entire life. He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Papio Dam Preservation Association.

Survivors are his wife, Alvina; two sons and daughters - in - law, Fred A. and Sherrill Schumacher and Don and Joyce Schumacher and one daughter, Donna Blankenship, all of Kennard; 10 grandchildren and nine great - grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry and a sister, Doretta.
