Ruth V. Dufrin, 73, of 1887 Stannards Road died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) in Jones Memorial Hospital. Born June 26, 1928, in Foster, Ohio, she was a daughter of Harry and Clara Blankenship Vaske. On May 27, 1972, in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., she married Jack W. Dufrin, who survives.

Mrs. Dufrin was a former resident of Scio, Aberdeen and Edgewood, Md., and Peel, Ark., moving to Wellsville in 1994.

Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Dawn (John) Biggs of Baltimore, Md., and Terri Brainard of Scio; a son, Cody (Kathy) Smith, two stepdaughters, Ruthmari (Tom) Andersen of Grayslake, Ill., and JuneAn (Kevin) Lanigan of Portola Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Gabrielle (Eric Brunelle) Brainard, Bobby Brainard, Hope Brainard, Chelsea Smith, Emanuel Smith, Christopher Smith, Joey Smith, Chelsea Smith, Ashley (Nathan Hessenthaler) Andersen, Joshua Andersen, Mackenzie Lanigan and Caitlyn Lanigan; a great-grandson, August Brainard Brunelle; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Friends called at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., Wellsville, Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral services were held. The Rev. Gene Ulrich officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.

Edward J. Barry, a 40 plus year resident of Valley Cottage died, Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at the Northern Riverview Health Care Center in Haverstraw. He was 84 years old. Mr. Barry was born in Kingston, NY on May 17, 1916. He was the son of Joseph and Mary (Curtin) Barry. Mr. Barry was retired from Miller Dairies and The Clarkstown Highway Department.

Mr. Barry is survived by a daughter, Jone DeFeciani of Haverstraw, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice J. Astheimer Barry and a daughter, Arlene Blankenship.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10 am at St. Peters Church, Haverstraw. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake, NY.

Betty B. Brown, 85, Groton, N.Y., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Groton Nursing Home Facility after a short illness. She was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Cortland, N.Y., to Thomas and Marsha Lamb Blankenship . She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm known as Shiphrah Farms.

Survivors include two sons, David Brown, Hays, and Tom Brown, Groton; two daughters, Barbara Pelham, Hickory, N.C., and Marge Williams, Locke, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brown; two sons, Steve and James; and a daughter, Kathryn.

 Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Groton City Church; burial in Groton Rural Cemetery.

Jack A. Chafin, Sr., a longtime Harrison resident, died December 11, 2005 from complications of a long term illness. He was predeceased by his loving, beautiful wife, Gloria (Perrotta) Chafin. Jack is survived by his four children, Ada Angarano (husband Pat) of Harrison, Margaret Heft (husband John) of Goshen, Jackie Chafin (wife Janice) of Cape Cod and Robert Chafin of Florida. Also survived by his sister, June Blankenship. He will also be missed by his 12 grandchildren, five step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren, who knew him affectionately as PopPop and Poppy.

Jack was born to Ada and Julius Chafin in Newtown, WV on December 19, 1923 and was raised on his parents farm. He moved to Bridgeport, CT just before the start of WWII. He was a supervisor at a defense plant, where he met his wife Gloria. Jack enlisted in the Air Corp becoming a paratrooper in the 101st Army Airborne Division and became a proud WWII veteran. He saw combat duty in the Pacific Islands and Japan and after making 13 successful jumps, received a purple heart. Jack worked as a bus driver in Westchester for over 35 years. After retiring from the buses, he later worked part-time at the Kemwell in Harrison. He knew hundreds of people in Westchester that rode his bus and knew him as Jack from West Virginia. He was loved by all and always helped others when he could. He enjoyed working with his hands on his homes and was an excellent carpenter and painter. He once built a six room house by himself in WV, but left it behind to return to Harrison, where he spent his life with his family. He remodeled many homes for his wife Gloria and their family and friends. An avid Yankee fan, he enjoyed watching baseball with his grandchildren. He was also a great fan of horse racing, watching the trotters and going with his daughter and son-in-law to Yonkers Raceway during warm months.

Visitation Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME, 767 E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck. Funeral Mass Wednesday, 10 am, St. Gregory the Great RC Church in Harrison, followed by interment at Mount Calvary.

Lynn McKenzie Collins, a Montrose resident, died Sunday 2005-09-13 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. She was born in New York City on September 3, 1959 to Michael and Veronica Mynes Collins. Lynn was an inspirational Motivational Speaker. She was active in the Westchester Disabled On the Move, a volunteer for Hospice of Northern Westchester, and an accomplished Member of the Sleepy Hollow Toastmasters.

Michael A.Taglio, 91, of Tarrytown, formerly of Dobbs Ferry, died September 25, 2000. He was born in Dobbs Ferry to Vincenzo and Pasqualina Racca Annichiarico. Michael attended Dobbs Ferry schools and later worked as a serviceman for the New Rochelle Water Company. He retired in 1972. In 1940 Michael and Mary LeVack were married in Dobbs Ferry, Mrs. Taglio died in 1970. Michael was a veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 1048, Resolute Fire Company and was an avid Golfer, baseball fan and gardener.

He is survived by his loving daughter Mary Ann Alexander of Tarrytown, his loving son Michael J. of Murfreesboro, TN, devoted grandchildren, Marianne Liakos, William Minichino, Sarah and Mary Beth Taglio, Rhona Blankenship, caring great grandchildren Noel, Brendan, Kirsten, Jared and William. Michael was predeceased by two grandchildren Michael and Michelle Taglio.
