Geraldine "Gerry" Jeanette Rajnus
passed away on July 27, 2015. Gerry was born May 20, 1940, in Tanyaville, Mo., one of four daughters born to Arnold and
Marie Forrester.
As a child, she moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., where she grew up and
graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1958. On Sept. 4, 1959, she married
her high school sweetheart, the boy across the street, Gene Cornett, and they
had three daughters. While living in Bonanza, Ore., she worked at Bold's
General Store and was a favorite of the school kids coming in at lunch. She
later worked at the market in Merrill, Ore., and always had a smile for her
customers. Gerry married Willie Rajnus on Jan. 21, 1976,
and gave him her love and devotion and three teenage daughters!
She loved being a homemaker and helped with the bookkeeping for the
farm. She always had a beautiful yard and loved gardening. She and Willie spent
time on the coast, went to NASCAR races in Las Vegas, Nev., and went to Reno,
Nev., every year for the Super Bowl. They had an RV parked in Redding, Calif.,
and enjoyed going there regularly, going to movies, out to dinner and always a
stop at In-N-Out Burger!
She was always there for her three daughters and made time every
Wednesday afternoon for coffee. She also had a group of lady friends she had
lunch with every month and looked forward to "catching up" with
everyone. As the grandkids came along, she made each one feel as if they were
her favorite, inviting them to lunch, buying them special gifts or encouraging
them to stay in the RV in Redding to go fishing or to the water slides.
Everyone looked forward to Christmas at grandma's house and she loved having
everyone there! Gerry loved cats and always had at least one. She even thought the rock chucks invading the yard were cute and
needed to be fed along with the birds and squirrels. She loved cookbooks and
collected recipes all the time, planning to try this or that, and a whole
bookshelf of her cookbooks had various colored tabs sticking out of each one.
Gerry is survived by her husband, Willie; daughters and their
husbands, Linda and Rick Bacchi, Lisa and Stan
Chronister and Sherri and Steve Chronister; grandchildren, including Christina Schaaf,
Tommy Bacchi, Marissa Sheldon, Travis Chronister,
Jeremy Chronister, Kyla Chronister and Macey Blankenship;
great-grandchildren, Blair Schaaf, Mason and Evie

The Register-Guard, (Eugene, OR) - July 29, 2019
Gay Grace Simons Blankenship was born on March 6, 1929, in Burlington, WA, the fifth in a
family of 6 kids, to Alice and Lewis Simons. Gay passed away in her daughter's
home on April 24, 2019.
Gay was a born musician. She could sing in harmony by the age of 4.
She told her family about harmonizing to the tone of the water closet as a
child. She and her siblings sang 4-part harmony and quibbled over who was
required to sing the ""junk"" parts. Her first musical
instrument was a shiny cornet traded for a puppy. Joining the band in 6th grade
was a dream come true.
Born 6 months before the U.S. stock market crashed, Gay referred to
herself as plugger, an over-achiever and having
""Four F's:"" Fantastic Fury For
Frugality. She attended two years of junior college before enrolling in Music
Education at Willamette University. There, she paid her way by living and
working at the nearby Oregon State School for the Blind. She served coffee at
the Capitol Coffee Shop and picked strawberries every summer
Gay's first teaching assignment was in Harrisburg, Oregon where,
for two years, she taught music to 1st through 12th grade, and served as the
high school librarian.
In the fall of 1954 Gay took a full-time music-teaching position at
Wy'east High School in Hood River. She taught two
bands, girls' glee, mixed chorus and music appreciation. It was at Wy'east that Gay met Warren Blankenship, the ""handsome and erudite"" history
teacher. She was both touched and impressed, and he, equally so. Gay Simons and
Warren Blankenship were married in 1955, marking the beginning
of a wonderful 61-year marriage. When she returned from her honeymoon Gay
Simons was christened ""Mrs. B"" and the name stuck with
her for the rest of her teaching career.
In 1956 and 1957, while Warren taught in the Antelope Valley of
California, Gay gave birth to Sherie
and Wayne, their first two children. Gay resumed
music teaching in 1960, when the family relocated to Junction City. There,
""Mrs. B"" started the Junction City Community Chorus and
helped launch the Scandinavian Festival – serving as choir director for more
than thirty years. In Junction City, Mrs. B taught beginning band, elementary
classroom music, choir and chorus in high school. Gay earned her master's
degree in Music Education in 1966 from the University of Oregon, after having
her third child, Alice. The 4th child, Marian, was born in
1966 in Mount Pleasant Iowa, where Warren taught history at Iowa Wesleyan
College. Gay took a teaching hiatus to raise her four children, until Marian
was in kindergarten. At the same time, she began to study the violin, along
with 3rd-born Alice in 1969. Even with her busy family of 6, Gay continued
studying stringed instruments as much as possible.
In 1971, the Blankenship family returned to Oregon, and Gay worked
as a substitute teacher in Eugene district 4J schools, until she was hired
full-time in 1973. In her twenty years in district 4J, Mrs. B taught choir,
band, string orchestra, and ""explore music."" Mrs. B loved
being a traveling music teacher – appearing in as many as five different
schools per day. She was mobile, independent and in complete charge of her
musical destiny. From 1990-1993, Gay rallied the community in a series of
fundraising concerts to save district-wide school music programs that were
being cut.
Mrs. B was an eternal optimist and she walked her talk
(""Hope is our greatest ally!""). She was selfless in her
service to others (""Service is the rent we pay for
living!""). She personified gratitude. Annual highlights of her
teaching career included the UNICEF Benefit Concerts that she produced at
Kennedy, Jefferson and Spencer Butte Middle Schools. Also memorable were Mrs B's performances of ""Fiddlers on a
Flatbed"" truck during Eugene Celebration parades.
Gay's own children didn't trick or treat for candy – they trick or
treated for UNICEF. During Christmas, the 6 Blankenships
caroled door-to-door in 4-part harmony.
Mrs. B loved variety and unusual challenges. After retiring, she
not only volunteered in public schools, and took Spanish classes at the University
of Oregon, but she picked up a $40 trombone at a sidewalk sale and joined the
One More Time Around Marching Band. After 7 seasons,
she continued with the New Horizons Band, playing the trombone and timpani. She
played violin and viola with the Eugene Community Orchestra for over 40 years.
She cherished playing in amateur string quartets, and stayed active with
chamber music buddies into her late 80's. Mrs. B could be seen all over town
carrying her viola, riding the city bus, going from rehearsal to rehearsal.
Gay's personal legacy is her unique sincerity and passion for doing
She had more energy in her pinky than some will have for over half their life.
Born a tough farm girl during the Great Depression, she valued every little
thing. She loved to learn. She was a woman of action with little time for
chit-chat. Sitting seemed to her like a bit of a waste. Beyond her precious
music and her beloved family, Gay valued things of substance: humanity,
equality, peace on earth, the beauty of the natural world. She went to
""church"" every day, simply in the way she lived life.
There is so much more to tell and we hope the memories and stories of her never
fade.
She was preceded by her husband
Warren. Mrs B was, and
still is, grateful for everything. We feel her, love her, remember her and are
so grateful for her. Thank you Mom!
A Celebration of Life will be held 6 pm, Monday, August 12, 2019,
at the White Oak Pavilion at Mount Pisgah Arboretum.

Albany Democrat-Herald (OR) - August 2, 2018
Brenda Inez Nixon
was born in Russellville, Arkansas on November 3, 1946. In 1950, she moved to
Garibaldi, Oregon, where she attended first through eighth grades. She passed
away in her sleep on July 26, 2018.
Her dad, Ira Blankenship and mother, Velma, bought a house on the
Miami Beach bay, Oregon. Brenda and her sister, Pat, played on the beach,
making sand castles and playing with their dolls I was not long before Brenda
developed a great personality, grew up and made many friends. By the time she
was in eighth grade, Brenda became a cheerleader and was one of the most
beautiful girls in school.
At the end of her eighth grade year, her dad decided to move to
Springfield to get a better job. They bought a home on G Street, close to his
work. Brenda attended Springfield Junior High School where she enjoyed her
drama classes the most, aspiring to become a thespian. When she graduated from
junior high, she went to Thurston High School, where she became a lead actor in
the school's plays. She was one of the most popular figures in her senior
class. She was a very vibrant student and was elected class entertainment
chairman.
During her senior year in high school, the basketball team was in
the championship playoffs. She went to the University of Oregon to watch them
play. At the end of the game, the students were allowed to go to the union
center and listen to Paul Revere and the Raiders. While Brenda and the gang of
kids from the basketball game entered the Student Union, Brenda stopped to tie
her shoe. At the same time, her soon to be husband was trying to get a better
view of the stage. When Brenda stood up, the two had an instant attraction and
Dave asked her to dance. From that point on, her vibrant personality and cheer
won his heart. They were married and in love for the next 53 years. The couple were married in Springfield at the Assembly of God
Church on January 3, 1965.
Brenda supported her new husband as he continued his education at
the University of Oregon. The couple moved to San Francisco for a short time
while Dave worked as a construction worker. During that time, Brenda gave birth
to her daughter, Tamara.
It wasn't long before the couple moved back to Springfield to begin
Dave's career with Pacific Power and Light. Their son, Dale, was born there
four years later. As Dave's career progressed over the next 20 years, the
family moved to Redmond, Walla Walla, Junction City, finally settling in
Albany.
Brenda loved her husband and children and always made a wonderful
home for them. She eventually entered the work force, selling jewelry at
Mervyn's and at Kohl's for the next 25 years. Working with jewelry was
something she enjoyed very much. She retired when her husband retired and they
enjoyed each other's company for the next 15 years, still very much in love.
Brenda loved her grandchildren, Nick and Savannah, high school
classmates, and the many friends that she had made over the years. She was
known and admired for her creativity and eye for detail. She made a beautiful
home to share with family and friends. She was always decorating her home
inside and out with the changing of the seasons.
A celebrations of life will be announced at a later date.

Doris Margaret Isom Bierly
died at home July 13, 2019, three days short of her 103rd birthday. She was
born on July 16, 1916 to Frank and Nan (Dougherty) Isom.
Doris grew up on the family farm south of Brownsville, Oregon. She
was the oldest of six and attended Union Point School and graduated from Brownsville
High School in 1934. Following high school Doris received a certificate in
Practical Accounting and office practice and management from LaSalle Extension
University. This would become useful for her when she married Charlie L. Bierly in Brownsville. Charlie was involved in the
agriculture industry and Doris did most of the bookkeeping.
Doris's community activities included teaching Sunday school
classes at 1st Presbyterian Church at Brownsville, leading 4-H cooking and
sewing clubs, helping with precinct voting duties and being active in the
Brownsville Garden Club. For many years she exhibited flowers and volunteered
at the annual Pioneer Picnic Flower Show.
In Doris's later years, she was best known for her walk up the
butte south of Brownsville where she grew up and around the Albany Mennonite
Village. On her 80th, 85th, 90th, and 95th birthdays she climbed the butte with
a few friends or relatives. On her 100th birthday a flight was arranged by the
Mennonite Home and she, her granddaughter Kajsa, and
a newspaper reporter were piloted over the butte. When asked about the flight
or future flights she stated, It was OK but the next
flight would be on her 200th birthday. This 100th birthday flight was her first
plane ride ever. Around the Mennonite Home she tried to walk a mile a day in
three walks. After a broken wrist, the past few months' walks fell more into Ľ
to ˝ mile a day.
Doris was a very positive, encouraging, fair-minded person, seldom
talking poorly of others. An illustration of her fair mindedness is when
watching "Wheel of Fortune" if all the contestants did not win a
decent amount she was not pleased. One of her favorite sayings when adversity
happened was, "we take it as it comes." She was also known for her
keen sense of humor. She had a contagious laugh and always loved to tickle
grandkids' feet when opportunity arose.
Doris married Charlie L. Bierly on Nov.
27, 1937. Charlie preceded her in death and went to see Jesus for Christmas on
December 24, 2001, after over 64 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death
was her daughter, Sandra L. Bierly in 2013, sister,
Eleanor Keith, and brothers, Tom and Bill Isom.
Survivors include son, Craig Bierly and
wife, Marilyn of Brownsville, sister, Beryl Parker of Beaverton; grandchildren, Mark Bierly,
Daniel and wife, Danielle Bierly of Halsey, Toby and
wife, Eroica Bierly of
Aliso Viejo, California, and Sarah
and husband, Michael Blankenship of Hebo, Oregon. Great-grandchildren include Kajsa and
Kamden Bierly of Aliso Viejo, Joseph and Andy Blankenship of Hebo, and
Shawn Bierly of Halsey. Also surviving are several
nieces and nephews and their families.
A service to remember her life will be at 11 am, on Monday, July
29, 2019, at the Mennonite Home Pavilion east on 47th St. off of Waverly Drive
in South Albany. Private entombment will be at Willamette Memorial Park. Fisher Funeral Home at 306 SW Washington Street, Albany, OR 97321.

family that consisted of his sister, Gertrude, his mother and him.
Although slight in stature, his 1940 high school yearbook quote -
"inches do not make the man" - reflected his positive attitude and
drive. He proved this to be true during the following 72 years of his life.
John attended the University of Arkansas but, in 1943, college was interrupted
by military service. He served with the 102nd Infantry Division U.S. Army
Engineers in France and Germany. He received the Bronze Star, as described in
the declaration, for: "acting as a mine detector operator working ahead of
advanced infantry under hostile enemy artillery and small arms fire … The
courage, coolness and skill displayed by Private Lemmer
reflect great credit upon himself and the military service." He rose to
the rank of Sergeant. Discharged from the Army in February 1946, John returned
to college at the University of Missouri, from which he graduated in 1948 with
a degree in Business Administration (Marketing and Advertising).
While at Missouri, he met his future wife, Kathleen
"Kay" Blankenship.
They married on Feb. 19, 1949 and had two sons, John Jr. and Gary. Kathleen graduated with a degree in journalism in 1949. She preceded him in
death in 2002.
John's entire working career was with Wm. Volker & Company, a
home furnishings, flooring and window covering wholesale company that was then
based in Kansas City, Mo. The company had been founded in 1882 by Mr. Volker,
who was a major silent philanthropist and who was eventually "outed"
regarding his generosity in the book "Mr. Anonymous." It was
subsequently learned that John and Kay, years later, continued the practice by
providing anonymous college scholarships to deserving students. John began his
business career as a sales trainee for Wm. Volker & Co., with his first
assignment being San Antonio, Texas, in 1949. He became Marketing Manager for
the Furniture Division in 1958 and General Merchandising Manager in 1959,
Executive Vice President for Sales and Merchandising in 1962, Vice President in
1967 and finally, President of the company, then headquartered in Burlingame,
Calif., in 1973. Four years after John became President, a major trade magazine
described the Wm. Volker Co to be the "world's largest distributor of home
interior furnishing products." John retired from Wm. Volker as President
in 1988. His devotion to the employees and the customers of the company were
well recognized at the time of his retirement.
In his younger days, John was active in the San Antonio men's
chorus ("The Chordsmen") that traveled
extensively putting on popular barbershop harmony shows. Later in life, John was
active in the Episcopal Church. He served on the vestry at St. Matthew's Church
in San Mateo, Calif. In 1984 John and Kathleen worked as Volunteers In Mission in the service of the Episcopal Church regarding
development of properties for the Church of the Province of Kenya, Africa. He
was active in fundraising for The Bishop's Ranch. He was on the Board of
Directors for the Northern California Campaign. John's life was full of
accomplishments, and he left behind a legacy of service, a strong work ethic and
love of family. In particular, his sons, nephew, Leslie, and
grandchildren benefited from his example and mentoring. His love for the
outdoors, hiking and fishing rubbed off onto his boys.
He was a devoted husband who provided care and tireless companionship
to Kay during her extended illness. His quick smile and charming attitude
persisted even after his ability to communicate in other ways became
challenged. John's was a life well lived with lots of happy memories and
favorable influences on those he has left behind.
John is survived by his sons, John (Elaine) of Portland and Gary (Baholi) of Morondova, Madagascar;
and grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth Walter (Adam) and John III; and nephew,
Leslie ONeil (Sandra) of San Diego.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at the Chapel
of the Good Samaritan, Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital at 11 a.m.

2015, Portland, Multnomah
Co., OR, Obituary
Miss Elizabeth Horn, our sister, auntie, and friend, passed away on
Saturday, November 7, 2015, due to complications from pneumonia. Elizabeth
never talked about her age. And although you can do the math once you read her
birth year, age is just a number, and hers will remain unlisted here.
To her family and friends, Elizabeth was a fiercely loyal and
devoted companion. And to those who were unable to meet her in person, our
sincere condolences. We offer this poor substitute, a thumbnail sketch of the
beautiful woman we knew and loved, as partial compensation.
Born in 1921 in Wisconsin, Elizabeth moved to Portland, Oregon with
her mother in the early 1920s. She attended Linnton
Elementary School and graduated from Roosevelt High in 1940. After high school,
she took a job as a clerk at the main branch of the US Bank in downtown
Portland. Did we mention she was loyal? She worked her entire professional
career, which spanned more than four decades, for that same branch of the US
Bank.
She was the first in her immediate family to obtain a driver
license and a car, and she relished her role as family chauffeur. She took to
heart the jingle, "See the USA in your Chevrolet" and with friends
and family by her side, put hundreds of thousands of miles on her beloved 1964
Impala and the several vehicles that "Valiantly" (here's looking at
you, Plymouth) tried in vain to replace it over the years.
As a child of the Great Depression, she learned to pinch pennies
'til they squealed, and eventually, she saved enough squealing pennies to
travel the world. She kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland, walked China's Great
Wall, explored Hiroshima, Japan, cruised the Amazon,
sailed the Caribbean, and floated through the locks of the Panama Canal. She
toured the mainland US, the UK, and Europe, and made several trips to Hawaii,
Alaska, Mexico, and Canada. She once claimed to have visited Timbuktu, but we
think she was pulling one or more of our legs about that-a favorite pastime of
late.
She was a long-time volunteer at the Portland Center for the
Performing Arts (PCPA), the Portland Art Museum, and Art in the Pearl as well
as the Catlin Gabel Rummage Sale "sort center," where she found
treasure in both the donations she helped to sort and the friendships that she
made.
She was active in several organizations, including the English
Speaking Union, Native Plant Society, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also
held life-long membership in Portland's First Presbyterian Church and was a
firm believer in the Church of Golf on Television.
She never married, and she had no children of her own, but she did
have a favorite sister, niece, and nephew. She delighted in reminding them that
they were, in fact, her only sister, niece, and nephew. But that didn't alter
the truth. They were indeed, her favorites.
Like Ethel Merman, Elizabeth loved a parade. Specifically, she
loved the Portland Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade, and she was always
cheered by The Clan Mackay bagpipers and their righteous renditions of Scotland
the Brave.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Kraatz Vianello, her favorite aunt, Elsie Kraatz Blankenship, her
step father, Dan Vianello, her father, Frank Horn,
and her brother-in-law, Walter Simons.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Simons ("Bob"),
and her nephew, Bruce Simons, of Portland, Oregon; her niece, Katherine Wilcox
("Katie") and her husband, Ken Wilcox of Carmel, California; her
sister-in-law, Wynter Lovejoy of Yelm, Washington;
many special friends including Cecilia Crater, Evelyn Rogers, and Laraine Vonfeldt; and several of her sorority sisters from Beta
Sigma Phi.
Thanks also to the US Navy for lighting up the western sky with a
missile launch just as Elizabeth was venturing off on her final adventure. A
spectacular salute, it was truly above and beyond, and the best use of taxpayer
dollars we've seen in years.
A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at Skyline Memorial
Gardens & Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd. Portland, Oregon, on Friday,
November 13, 2015. Elizabeth will be laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens after
the ceremony

in Maryland to parents Dilver and Stella Payne Brown.
He died on March 17, 2017, in Richland,
[Benton Co.,] Washington,
at the age of 89 years.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a fireman in the
Philippines during WWII until his honorable discharge. Frank was united in
marriage to Betty R. Hodge on June 1, 1947. They moved their family from

worked for Stewart's Market for many years working as a cashier, stocking the
shelves, in maintenance or anywhere he was needed. He later worked for IGA for
several years.
Frank enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood,
mounting antlers for friends and family, and going for drives in the mountains.
He cherished the time he was able to spend with his family, passing the love of
the outdoors onto them. Frank was always there to help his children and lend a
hand to help anyone wherever he could. He was recognized earlier this year in
an East Oregonian article, "who at the age of 89 was out with his tractor
clearing everyone's driveways." Frank made many friends over the years
with many of the farmers and ranchers on Big and
Little Buttercreek. He would often stop by and share
stories and a Mt. Dew with them. Frank was very thankful and considered himself very rich that the Lord blessed him with such a
wonderful family.

At the age of 44, Tamara "Tammy" Anne Burke Springer went
home to be with her Lord on March 24, 2015. Tammy was born Aug. 28, 1970 in
Redmond, to Thomas and Linda Burke.
She graduated from Crook County High School in Prineville in 1988.
While in high school she was a cheerleader. After graduation she was a Crook
County Rodeo Princess riding for Coors Light and traveling the Rodeo Circuit in
Oregon. Tammy graduated from Flight Attendant College, and worked at Redmond
Airport. It was on a blind date on July 1, 1990 that she met her future
husband, John Springer. They married on May 4, 1991. Tammy worked various jobs,
including customer service at US Bank. In the late 90's she acquired her real
estate broker license and started CHAMP Property Management Services.
John and Tammy built Springer and Son Aloha Funeral Home and
Crematory Aloha, Oregon, which opened in August 2003. Tammy was responsible for
overseeing the funeral home office. She most recently worked customer service
at Villa Sport in Beaverton. Tammy enjoyed renovating homes and selling them.
In each one of the homes they left behind there was evidence of her exquisite
decorator's touch and green-thumb talent, with which she created some of the
most beautiful flower gardens. Her warm and inviting personality drew diverse
people to her, all on whom she bestowed selfless compassion and generosity.
Tammy was one of those people anyone could talk to. Tammy's favorite holiday
was Easter, the day our Lord rose from the grave and defeated death. It is fitting
that she is with Him now, whole and healthy.
She also enjoyed shopping with her mother, visiting with her
brother and sister and John's family, working out, entertaining, traveling,
gardening, cooking, relaxing at their lake house, walking the trails and
boating. Her most valuable treasure and greatest sense of accomplishment was found in devoting herself to their son Gage, age 15.
Tammy is survived by her husband, John; son, Gage; mother, Linda
Petersen (Thomas); father, Thomas (Terri); brother, Todd Burke (Hope); sister, Theresa Blankenship (Corey), and many nieces, nephews. The world was
a better place with our Tammy in it, and we will forever miss her to the depths

Gerald Alan Blankenship died peacefully
in his home on May 16th, 2017, following a terrible battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 40
years Maria
Blankenship; his son, Jerome Blankenship of McMinnville; his daughter
Miranda
Blankenship of Carlton; and grandchildren Aurora Blankenship, Arthur Blankenship, and Freedom
Blankenship.
Gerald was born I Portland, OR but was a
long time resident of Carlton, and was known throughout Oregon for his work as
a sign maker. He started his career in graphic art in the 70’s working for
Payless Drug Stores. He quickly became an asset to the company and helped open
new stores in both Oregon and Washington.
In the late seventies, he and his future wife
Maria Fox moved to the Spokane area. There he worked for the Catholic Charities
in outreach for seniors. Gerald and Maria were married in 1977 and had children
shortly thereafter. Gerald built a cabin in the woods 35 miles north of
Spokane. The Blankenships lived off the grid for 9
years. Gerald often bartered with local businesses with his sign work.
The family settled in Yamhill County in
1984. In 1988 Gerald began an apprenticeship with master carver and sign maker
Joe Valasek. By 1991, Gerald established his
business, Northwood Signs in Carlton. There he produced carved wood signs by
hand in the old world style. His work can be seen as far as Idaho and all
through Oregon. Some notable signs he and his associates produced are the 27
City of McMinnville signs, City of Newport Welcome signs, mural work in Carlton
and numerous signs for wineries throughout Yamhill County. His work is an
integral part of the image of Yamhill County.
Gerald was an artist, poet, musician and
family man who felt a strong spiritual connection to his Cherokee roots. He was
a loyal, accepting friend, and had a joy for life. He will be missed by many.

Published in The Kansan from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23,
2015
Paul Anderson, originally of Newton, was born on Oct. 11, 1924. His
father was Joy D. and his mother was Pearl (Jones) Anderson. Early on Feb. 15,
2015, Paul succumbed to a massive heart attack.
As a teenager, he had suffered a gunshot wound while hunting with
friends, and when hospitalized he met Eunice Blankenship (from Great Bend) who was his nurse. He went on to serve in
the Army as a cook in the Officer's Mess at Camp Robers,
near Paso Robles, CA. When discharged he returned to Newton where he and Eunice
reacquainted and were married on July 4, 1946.
They made their home in Newton, where four of their children were
born. In 1957 they moved to Washington State where two more children were born.
In 1969 they moved to Oregon, where they resided until their deaths.
Eunice preceded Paul in death on June 26, 2007.
Paul is survived by his 6 children, 20 grandchildren and 25 great
grandchildren: Mary & Tom Campbell live in Aumsville, Oregon (3 children; 4
grandchildren); Nickie & Gary Johnson live in
Rochester, Washington (3 children; 3 grandchildren); Chris & Jeannette
Anderson live in Sylmar, California (3 children; 2 grandchildren); Fran &
John Siebert live in McMinnville, Oregon (3 children - 1 deceased in 1982; 4
grandchildren); Joy & Ken Vail live in San Leandro, California (6 children;
5 grandchildren); John & Carolyn Anderson live in Phoenix, Arizona (2
children; 7 grandchildren)
Paul was known to many as "the man who never knew a
stranger." He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone
wherever he was. His passions included his family and friends, and he loved to
cook, especially for others. He also loved studying his Bible, just as his
mother did.
Both Paul and Eunice chose to be cremated and wished for no funeral
or memorial. They are interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. The family wishes to thank everyone for the many
kind words of encouragement. Paul will be greatly missed, but he left us a
tremendous legacy of generously caring for others. For that we are thankful and
treasure his memory.
