Norfolk Virginian Pilot Saturday February 3, 1951
`Laban Merritt Harwell, 74, husband of Mrs. Nora Anderson Harwell,
died at a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 4 a.m.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Anderson
Lowe, of Hickory; three sisters, Mrs. F.A. Wilson and Miss Loula
B. Harwell, both of Norfolk, and Mrs. H. H. Blankenship, of Portsmouth; two brothers, Robert A. Harwell, of Courtland, and
J. Vernon Harwell, of Norfolk; and a grandson, Philip A. Lowe, of Hickory.
Mr. Harwell was a native of Dinwiddie County and was a resident of
Norfolk for 50 years until moving to Hickory three years ago.
The body will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown
Funeral Home to Elmwood Cemetery
for funeral services at the grave today at 3
p.m.

Mattie Crowder Blankenship, Mrs. Age 83, in the 84th year of her age, widow of John L. Blankenship, died Friday, December 11, 1953 at 10:00 pm in a Norfolk hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Andrew J. Mitchell of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. W.
S. Hayes and a brother, W. H. Crowder, both of Petersburg; 4 grandchildren, John Alfred Carroll, George Crowder
Carroll, Mrs. Audrey Mitchell
Mathews and Andrew J. Mitchell Jr, all of Norfolk and 7 great grandchildren. She
was a native of Chesterfield County and had been a resident of Norfolk for 43 years, residing at 1040 35th
Street. She was a member of the Zion
Methodist Church and charter member
of the Westminster Chapel OES.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 pm, Sunday, December 13, 1953, at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev Earl I. Lewis, pastor of the Zion Methodist
Church. The services in Petersburg will
be conducted in the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Monday, December 14, 1953. Burial will be in
Blandford
Cemetery. Members of Westminster Chapter No 99, OES,
conducted services.

Eller Beavers, aged 52, a Bandy farmer was found dead last Thursday
afternoon in the yard of his home. It was stated that death was due to a
heart attack he suffered Tuesday morning. He was born at Bandy, a son of
the late Thomas and Lula Mitchell Beavers, both natives of Tazewell county. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Earnest
Lynn of Bandy and Mrs. Lessie Bryant of Clintwood;
one brother, William Beavers of Bandy, one half sister,
Mrs. Hazel Blankenship, of Cedar Bluff, one step sister, Mrs. Billey Harrison of Bandy, one half

Clarence V. Blankenship, age 73,
resident of the Brickyard section of Richlands for more than 35 years, died
early Monday morning, August 10th, at his home following a lingering illness.
He was born in Russell County, a son of the late Silas and Amanda Blankenship, both natives of
Russell County.
He was educated in the free schools of the
county and was a retired employee of the Consumers Mining Corp. at Red Ash. He
was a member of the Richlands Trinity Episcopal Church, the UMWA, Local Union
6843, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Clinch Valley Lodge No. 28, IOOF, Richlands
Lodge No. 4 Emcampment, IOOF, Richlands Rebecca Lodge
62, Oniska Tribe 61, IORM, Degree
of Pocahontas No. 34.
He is survived by his wife, the former
Frances Sisk, one son, Warren Blankenship of Richlands, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Landymore of
Alexandria, Va., Miss Mary Jane Blankenship of Richlands, one brother,
Vernie Blankenship of Cedar
Bluff.
Funeral services were held Wednesday
afternoon at 2:00 in the Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. T. L. Rideout in charge of the service assisted by Tom Brown.
Interment was in the Hankins Cemetery where graveside rites were conducted by
the IOOF. Pallbearers were members of the Loyal Order the Moose and the IORM.
Flower bearers were members of the Rebeccas. Honorary
pallbearers were members of the UMWA.
