Claire Hebard Dill, 75, of 92 Derby St.,
Island Pond, Vt., beloved wife of Attorney Richard E. Dill, attorney at law,
died suddenly Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Newport. Born March 23, 1924, in Ashfield,
Mass., she was the daughter of Emory Blodgett and Maude (Gilderdale)
Hebard. On June 6, 1953, she married Richard Eden
Dill, who survives her.
She received an associate's degree in teaching at Castleton
Teachers College and later received a nursing degree at the Springfield
Teaching Hospital in Springfield, Mass., where she was a registered nurse and
retired from there in 1952. She was also a part-time nurse for various
hospitals from 1952 to 1970, and she also assisted her husband, Richard, at his
law firm as a part-time secretary from 1970 to 1999. She held memberships with Graffort
Club of Professional Woman's Organization in Portsmouth, United Church of
Christ in North Hampton, 4-H Club in Rockingham County, and volunteered for the
American Red Cross. She enjoyed working on the family genealogy, sewing,
knitting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Richard E. Dill, she is survived by her
children, Charlton R. Dill and his wife, Lisa, of Lee; Lauren C. Dill of
Littleton, N.H., Melinda J. Birch and her husband, Scott, of Derby, Vt.; and by
her grandchildren, Alden, Carl, Mark Dill, Andrew and Jared Birch; a brother,
Roswell Hebard of South Royalton, Vt.; two sisters,
Alice Lively of Greenfield, Mass.; and Janet Blankenship
of Denver; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her infant son, Norman McConnell Dill.
