Shirley Ann Kozel, 44, Vancouver, Wash., formerly of North Dakota, died of cancer Thursday, Aug. 31, 1989, in her home. Services were Sept. 2, in Vancouver.

 Shirley Ann Bauer was born June 14, 1945, in North Dakota. She married Richard A. Kozel. She moved in 1968, to Vancouver, where she worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Bess Kaiser Clinic.

Survivors are her husband, mother, Golda Bauer, Pembina, N.D. daughter, Kim Blankenship . Vancouver, stepdaughter Kris Wynand, Vancouver, two granddaughters, brother, Allan Bauer, Munich, N.D., and grandparents, George and Annie Dickie, Glasston, N.D.

Jody Lee Blankenship, a Wahkiakum High School student died in a Longview hospital as the result of an automobile accident. He was born in Blairesville, Ga., and lived in this area most of his

life. 

He was active in football and track and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his parents, Henry and Glenda Blankenship of Cathlamet; a sister, Karen Gibson; and three brothers, Jeremy Blankenship, Junior Gibson and Michael Gibson. Also surviving are grandparents, Joe and Muriel Blankenship of Hayesville, NC, and Jack and Edna Shook of Young Harris, GA.

Services were Tuesday at the Cathlamet Assembly of God Church with Rev. Gary Holde and Rev. Everett Groves officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.

Blankenship, Upton Duane, 54, of Port Townsend, Wa., formerly of Homestead, Ok., died of a heart attack at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital in British Columbia on July 11, 1989.

Duane is survived by 2 daughters, Julie Renee' Blankenship, 31, of San Francisco and Valerie Ann Blankenship, 29, of Denton, Tx.; former wife, Janice Palmer of Pensacola, Fl.; and many very dear sailing friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Upton Stanford Blankenship and mother, Edith Nettie Outhier of Homestead.

Duane was a graduate of Okla. State University, and completed Naval flight training in Pensacola in 1955. He served with distinction as a Navy multi-engine pilot for 18 years. His career took him all over the world, including Newfoundland, England, Spain, Italy, India, Japan and Africa. He served as chief pilot under Admiral Marmaduke Bayne in the Persian Gulf island of Bahrain and spent his last tour of duty at NAS Pensacola as chief pilot for Admiral Malcolm Cagle. Duane will be remembered as a free thinker and a maverick. He spent the last five years in retirement, fulfilling a life-long sailing dream in the Port Townsend area on his exquisite 40 foot yacht, Chimera, among friends, with his Siberian Husky, Blue, at his side. Memorial services will be held next week in Port Townsend.
